  1. Josey likes to preen my hair sometimes, Celery, and that is fine with me, I love it. Nooey, I am so excited for you, I can read the anticipation in your posts, and I am so happy for you right now. Please don't forget the camera this time, we want pics and we want them now. LOL
  2. No, Nooey, a hard beaker won't turn into a hard biter, his owner will be the one to do that, if you catch my drift. If he does start biting, you will be the one to stop it if it ever starts. But I don't think you have a problem here unless you make it one. He is just exploring and testing his world and if you follow the advice you have received here, you will be happy with this bird, give him all the love you have and we will be here to help you in any way we can. Plus you will have the support of the breeder, he sounds like a good person to know. I think in your heart you have already made your decision and it is the best one, and I back you 100%.
  3. Thanks, SFsailor, for the chem lesson, doesn't the diversity of professions shown here really come in handy to help one another. Great job.
  4. It must have been the pictures, because what I see in the last two photos tell a different story, that looks like a nice looking grey. I am thinking you are going to purchase this grey, am I right, I would, but a vet visit is mandatory. She looks like a very sweet bird, I say go for it, she needs your tender loving care.
  5. But all your friends will grow old and die and leave you all alone. I want to never get sick again.
  6. Sheila, try soaking the pellets in some sort of fruit juice, some will eat them that way. Also try combining the pellets and seeds in one container and gradually over time increase the ratio of pellets to seed until the seed is very little and mostly pellets to get him to eat more of the pellets. Now this will take time, months, or maybe years but it can be done.
  7. Nooey, I think Dan is right, he is just testing the waters, it does not mean he will be a biter. Just do as Lidia said, and move his beak away or distract him with something else. I think this is your grey if he picked you, that is always a good sign, he could turn out to be the best one of the bunch, you never know. Don't hold it against him if he beaks you a little harder than the rest of them. I am so glad you have found some babies and also that one picked you, you are very lucky. Keep us informed as to which one you take but I think I know which one it will be, right.
  8. I'm on pins and needles waiting, I am so excited I could, well this is a family forum.{Feel-good-000200A1}
  9. I think Celery has given you the best advise in a nutshell. He talks from experience and it sounds like he handled it well, I on the other hand have not had a biting issue with Josey, knock on wood, but if one develops, his ideas will be put to good use.
  10. Nah, he won't put on any more weight now, but you really had us going there, he was about to dry up and blow away.  :woohoo:
  11. Hello, Steve, and welcome to the family, we are glad you joined and looking forward to hearing more about Nikki. It sounds like she needs a nail trim very badly, they should not be that long, a vet visit is in order like CD suggested. She does not look that small from the photo you posted, what does she weigh in grams, that is the true test?

    Sticky Beaks

That was so cute, Beccy, that egg covered beak on that baby of yours, aren't they the sweetest things when they are babies. Thanks for sharing that with us. And I know what you mean by listening to your own voice, I hate to hear mine on the answering machine.
  13. You know the old saying, monkey see, monkey do.
  14. Julie, I am so glad you have made progress, he just is a litte territorial about his cage and after he comes out he is more receptive to you. And you lucky thing, he is snuggling some now, that is good, most of ours don't care much for that except when a baby. Thanks for updating us on this situation and keep up the good work.
  15. That brought a laugh to me Dan, keep em coming.
  16. Glad you got your scale, but 174 grams is a lot on the small side, are you sure of that weight?
  17. Well since Josey is 14 months old, that leaves me out.
  18. Well for the reasons why, I don't really know, but I do know that salt is bad for birds, I guess what occurs naturally is ok, but no added salt or salty kinds of foods are to be given to them. We have another thread that goes into detail what foods to avoid, but maybe someone else has some scientific information that might answer your questions.
  19. All I know is that a lot of avian vets recommend it, so it must be of good quality, my Josey eats it better than anything else I tried.
  20. Try the sprayer, and try the shower too, Dan, don't be a woosy about it. He might like it, you don't have to actually take him under the spray but let him know how much fun you are having in the water and maybe he will want to join you.
  21. Well I gotta hand it to you Kitty, you are going to be well prepared for that day you finally get that grey and I wish all new grey owners would do the same. We need more people like you.

    Biting my feet :D

Well you need to let him stay in that cage some during the day until you get back to work, so he will be used to it, and provide him some toys and things to tear up. Have you tried things you can hide a treat in to give him something to forage for, that will keep him busy for a while. I know you are having a ball with him and I can't say I blame you, its like having a new grandchild, you want to spoil him rotten.
  23. This is one woman who knows what she wants and goes after it, and she knows the risks and benefits of having a bird, you have to give her credit for researching and leaving no stone unturned in her quest to have a grey real soon. Rodney, you are right, there is no such thing as a perfect parrot and certainly not a perfect husband, but you sound like a man with a good head on his shoulders, so my hat is off to you, if I wore a hat that is, but you get the point.

    Biting my feet :D

I warned Kim about the bling, you cannot wear it around Dayo, he can ruin it in seconds. I knew those fingernails would be a favorite with Dayo too, I have to keep mine away, but mine are not as long as Kims. Sounds like things are going according to plans, and what fun. You won't want to go back to work.
  25. Loofa, we do need an update on Toki, we care about your grey and hope everything is going well.
