  1. I got up this morning to find my precious Gypsy had passed early this morning. She was the cockatiel I found one summer in my backyard and I adopted her after I couldn't find her owner and she was a welcome addition as she was hungry then and seemed to always be on the lookout for food, raiding the other two birds bowls at times. She leaves an empty hole in my heart but she flies free over the Rainbow Bridge, I will miss you my little one.
  2. It is with great sadness that I must pass on the news of Dave's death yesterday. He passed away peacefully but had been in ill health lately. He was a major part of greyforums with his wealth of knowledge and will be sorely missed, we have lost a master contributor and a lot of us have lost a true friend. My condolences go to his family and may he rest in peace, goodbye Dave.
  3. Hello Kasperhm and welcome to our family. Jason is adorable, thanks for sharing some pictures with us.
  4. Happy Belated Hatchday Corky, sweet sixteen and been kissed so many times I am sure. I hope your wife is better now and you all had a wonderful holiday.
  5. The red feathers may or may not molt out but like you said, you will always love her no matter what. They do make an interesting pattern on her lower chest, usually they are random.
  6. Hello Redfactor and welcome to our family. You have a beautiful baby grey, Rosie is adorable and those dark baby eyes get me every time. She has a pretty array of red feathers there but they may or may not stay as sometimes they molt them out, in any case she is gorgeous to behold.
  7. Because he has to go cargo I hope its not too cold there for him, it can get mighty cold in cargo, hope all goes well and we hear from you soon that Sukei is in the states with you and doing fine.
  8. I am so sorry to hear of Alvin's passing and you did everything you could to help this little fella but it just wasn't meant to be. In fact I kind of expected it after you said he was doing better, sometimes they rally one last time before they are gone forever but you surely have been stricken with the love that one can develop for these awesome creatures and maybe in the future you can open your heart for a rescue in need of a good home, in any case please accept my condolences for your loss.
  9. He is adorable and it does take time for a grey to settle into a new home so let him go at his pace and when he is ready for the next step he will let you know, a grey cannot be rushed for trust takes time but well worth it.
  10. They both are adorable and I second the statement that you will have your hands full but happy hands so enjoy those two and I look forward to some pictures of them outside their cages and maybe some singing in the near future.

  15. Happy Hatchday Dorain, I know you were spoiled royally.
  16. I'm not sure but I think its based on the total number of posts, rest assured you will reach the next level soon.
  17. Hello Artilleryman and welcome to our family. Ozzy is a cutiepie with those dark eyes, adorable, I look forward to hearing lots more about him.
  18. Aww GrecieMae, you are just so stinking cute, you and your daddy, Happy Hatchday GrecieMae.
  19. Hello BRD and welcome to our family. So glad to hear you are doing the research before plunging in to get a grey, they are complex animals but if you really want one then you can make it work, with children, other pets and occasional vacations. Many here have children and/or other companion animals and they all get along, with a few bumps along the way, very nicely. We used to travel with our grey when our son lived in the next state away from us, we would take her in a travel cage and she rode nicely in the back seat sometimes chatting away as we traveled 4 hours by car but now that our son has moved closer to home about the only time she goes in the travel cage is to the vet or outside for a bit of sunshine. Its a good idea to get them used to being in a travel cage if you are planning to take him/her along so they love going in one.
  20. I have covered all my birds from day one as they are in our family room, we do stay up some past their bedtime but they settle down and you don't hear anything more out of them. The only time they aren't covered at night is when we are going out and will be gone past their bedtime, when it gets dark they go to bed and when we return late we don't go in their room and disturb them. It would be nice to have their own room where I wouldn't have to cover them but now that they are accustomed to it they might still prefer to be covered. Whichever way you go is fine as long as the birds are ok with it as that is all that matters.
  21. Hello Tonya and welcome to our family. I think its greyt that you inherited your Dad's grey, he knows you will make a good parront to his beloved companion.
  22. Hello Gary and welcome to our family. If you really want to share your life with an African grey then yes you can make it work no matter what hours you work. The main thing is to make it quality time for a lot of grey owners have other schedules than the average 8 to 5 one. I commend you for doing the research before plunging in so you know what you are getting into and it is a lifetime commitment for these birds have long lives. I look forward to hearing more and especially when you actually get your new companion.
  23. It will take some time for even though he knows you he is in new to him surroundings. It could be awhile before he feels like talking much so just let him go at his pace, he will resume his chattiness when it suits him. I'm sorry you lost your first grey.
  24. That is wonderful news, I am so glad you didn't give up, gives more meaning to the phrase, "never give up". I look forward to the homecoming and we want to hear all about it.
