  1. I am so sorry for your loss Laurie and take all the time necessary to grieve for your loved one. We will be thinking about you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Judy
  2. www.bird.com www.thecountryroost.com www.drsfostersmith.com www.avianlove.com www.birdsafestore.com These are a few of the sites I have used. Some here do put that drop of vinegar in the water every day or every time it is changed, some change it often during the day. Yes give him his regular food as well as the pellets and if and when he starts eating the pellets you can start backing off the seeds.
  3. Awww Rachel, your baby is adorable and I know you can't wait to be able to bring it home, thanks for sharing with us.
  4. I bought my birds in Covington, small world isn't it. I have bought most of my stuff online and some of it came with free shipping you just have to check around and find some suitable sites. If you spray him make sure you do the chest area and the area between the wings and body, the water will just roll off the back. Do not dry, just put him back into the cage or on a stand and let him air dry, he will preen himself after getting wet. A drop of so of vinegar in their water bowl will help inhibit bacteria growth, for a lot of greys like to dunk food and stuff in their water. If he is not eating his pellets try soaking some in some juice like apple and see if he will eat them that way, some have even ground them up and added them to soft foods, like some oatmeal. The increased humidity will benefit him as well as you but that pot on the grate might not provide enough, you may have to invest in a humidifier.
  5. Don't you worry honey, I will find you.
  6. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us, that looks like a neat looking stand and a few other members have built themselves similar ones, thats so nice that you are so handy.B)
  7. The lady I bought my grey from had her babies in a plastic container or tub and kept it warm that way, she covered it with a towel, you really don't need any special equipment, but thats my opinion.
  8. I'm so glad you have stayed with us Terri, you have provided us with some very good information and I thank you for that. But it really boils down to everyone has to take the responsibility for their own safety and not put that info in their profile in the first place.

  10. You are real funny Joe!!!!!! {Feel-good-0002006E}
  11. Well I am glad for your accident then if that is how you found us and please do post a picture of the PVC gym you build along with one of Doop.
  12. Do not put anything in his water unless it is a drop of vinegar, he should be getting his vitamins and minerals from the foods he eats. If you have a Walmart in your area, you can get the aloe vera juice there and use it full strength, do not dilute it. He will be afraid of new things so gradually introduce new things to him, leave the TP rolls nearby and eventually he will be more curious about them. Baby toys like rattles make excellent toys for greys, most are safe for them also and usually are cheaper than made for bird toys. That is good that he is not plucking feathers anymore, the extra attention is probably the reason, and do not be afraid to talk to him all you want, he probably loves the extra attention.
  13. Joanne, even though I agree with you in part, it is up to each individual to protect their own identity by not putting any of their personal information on the site. Each one of us is responsible for our own actions and stupidity is no excuse. I do have a problem with posting your exchange with Frank on the site in this thread, that was uncalled for and certainly goes against your belief that putting personal info on the site since it contains your personal email address with your last name. I don't like to see any of the members leave and that certainly includes you but this is a free country and if you want to leave then that is your choice. The admins do not own this site and do not have much control over how it is operated other than make suggestions so don't blame Frank for any of this mess.
  14. Besides I just want to meet the members, we all kind of get to see each other's greys from the pictures we post, but to be able to actually talk to one another face to face would be unforgetable.
  15. You are right Terri, a get together with our greys would mean having them in close proximity to each other and if any one of them was infected with a disease then they all would be exposed, too risky in my opinion. As far as a forum wide get together in NYC, that won't happen now as that was CeasarsDad's idea since he lived in NY but he is moving to Florida in January so if it still happens it will be in Florida unless plans change. I would love to do a local one also to meet the ones closest in a particular area.
  16. You are going to have to be careful to not use that foul language around him for he will pick it up so do your best to keep that in check as much as possible. I hope this works out good for you, if you handle it properly it should work out just fine. Keep us posted as how it goes.
  17. Hello and welcome to the family, Theuns, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey if you have one. You don't say that you do have one but I am assuming when you say "game" that maybe you do. You are indeed right, it is a lifetime committment and one I hope you have taken seriously. Greys are amazing creatures and have requirements that must be met for them to flourish and live the long and happy lives they so richly deserve. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you have specific questions you may ask them at any time. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of this grey you would like to share with us please do we would love to see it.
  18. I am laughing so hard reading all these little stories about how their greys are calling to their owners, thanks for sharing a little of yourselves with us.
  19. Thanks Joe, I couldn't have said it better myself.
  20. Hello and welcome to the family, Jeff and Jamie, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you two and Doop. That certainly is an unusual name for a grey, do you know how he came about to have that name, I am just curious to know. I am really glad you could find it in your heart to take in this wonderful bird and the fact that he has adjust well so far speaks for itself. I am sure having a familiar family member present makes a big difference. That he prefers women over men is a fact of course with greys but that does not mean you will not have a good relationship with him, just a different one. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any specific questions you may have. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Doop that you would like to share with us we would love to see him. I know you are going to love it here as much as we do.
  21. You are right, Reta, whole grains are best instead of refined, for our greys and ourselves as well.
  22. Thats true Dan, anyone on this forum can plan their own activities with local members if they so wish, I was just referring to a larger scale get together.
  23. Thanks Joanne for bringing this subject to light, and it is not the first time someone has brought this very topic up. I am agreement with Dan that no one should put their actual street address or phone number on their profile page. It really is up to each of us as individuals to keep that private information to ourrselves and only share it with ones they feel they can trust.
  24. You can provide a bowl in the bottom of his cage for him to bathe in, if he doesn't use it, you can use a hand sprayer and wet him with that while inside the cage or you can take him to the shower and see if he will be receptive to going under the stream of water. He really should have a bath about 2 times a week and a lot of us use aloe vera juice for wetting them down, it is soothing for their skin especially now that cold weather is here and we have the heat on.
