  1. Thanks as I am not usually so fast on the draw but you have caught me on a good day!!! B)
  2. I have a split level cage with a playtop on one side that is lower than the other side, I think that works better than the ones with the playtop on the very top of the other cages as height can be a factor when dealing with greys, they like to go to the highest point. Another perch that could be rolled around the house is a good idea too, that way you can take him/her with you when you go to another room for a while. We have several threads that deal with playstands that are made out of wood and PVC, just do a search to find them and you will get lots of ideas.
  3. The best course of action would be to remove the bird from the house until the work is done and has been aired out but since you have nowhere else to go then you have to deal with it. If you ventilated the upstairs where the work is going on and maybe can somewhat close off the downstairs so the fumes won't come into that area then the bird should be ok. I would also open the windows downstairs to let in fresh air, just be sure to keep the bird away from drafts. If you could run an air purifier while all this is going on, that may help with the fumes too. Why don't you do a search and find any threads that already have some information about just such a topic, I know this has been discussed before but I hope what I told you is of some help to you.
  4. Hello DigitalFeather and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Nike. You came to the right place for advice in dealing with Nike, your 6 week old grey, we have lots of knowledgeable members who will be more than willing to share what they know and you will be so confident to be able to deal with Nike as he/she grows and matures. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of Nike if you would be so kind to share some with us.
  5. Digitalfeather, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and Nike.
  6. Yes you will learn a lot from actual hands on experience and also learn a lot from just being a member here, you have access to many years of experience from the grey owners here and some with more than one grey at a time. In fact joining our forum may have been one of the smartest things you have done so far and you seem like you have a good head on your shoulders and should make some grey a good companion. B)
  7. If you are only 15, I dare say that you will more than likely outlive him than the other way around but the thought is sweet. So Matt, I assume you have done a lot of research on greys and know for sure that is what you want because they are not the type of animal that is easily rehomed if it turns out it is not what you thought it was. We here as grey owners never like to see someone get one and then decide to give it up because it didn't turn out like expected, it is a lifetime committment and will require some time and effort on your part and of course some monetary requirements but if this is truly what you want then you will not be disappointed. Enough on the soapbox, you seem sincere to me and I will help you in any way I can and I know everyone else will too.
  8. Wise choice on the dogs, I have two yellow labs myself, such sweet loving animals. Just understand that a grey can be annoying too, it just depends on the circumstances and what your parents call annoying. When it gets to mimicing and talking, some of what it will repeat might be annoying to hear over and over and over, well you get the picture.
  9. Hello Joel and welcome to the family so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Gizmo. I fully understand your relationship with Gizmo, we all feel the same way about our greys, such amazing creatures, they have brought so much joy into our lives. You have certainly came to the right place to meet other grey owners and we love to discuss our babies and share pictures of them also. Take a little time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Gizmo you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

  11. Thanks Matt for the information about your pets, so your family's business is breeding and raising reptiles, how interesting and we have a few members here who also own reptiles, some are cute critters. Rats, bullfrogs, newts, chameleons, tree frogs and tiels, wow what a combination you have there, I see no mention of the normal housepets like dogs and cats so I guess there are none. So your parents ok'd getting an african grey but would not allow another tiel, how lucky for you as you have made a wise choice, just make sure you know what you are getting into with a grey.:cheer:
  12. Well I am proud to say I did not fall for Chet's ads for his video as it seemed too good to be true and he pushes it so much, bound to be something wrong with it if he has to try so hard and the emails kept coming for a while then finally stopped. I have learned more here on this forum than anywhere else I have looked for information on greys, we have a ton of input and many, many knowledgeable owners who are willing to share their ideas and suggestions with us. Like Dan said one of the different ways shown by our members will result in the best solution for a particular owner's problem.
  13. Wow Tracy, a woman who knows how to use a drill, way to go girl, and yes those baby toys you got there Jackie are some excellent ones, a very good find and buy.B)
  14. Don't worry Siobhan, I will leave him alone for some cute thing to snatch and with that red factor in his grey his chances are better than average. :cheer:
  15. Matt wrote: OMG, watch out for the grammar police!!! Matt you say you have a ton of animals, just how many kinds of animals do you have, I am just curious to know, I see you have other birds but what others do you have?
  16. Well greys are definitely not dumb animals and she knows you by YOUR body language that trouble is up for her but I hope you survive these next few days with all your fingers and nails intact with no holes and she comes thru this bout of infection with flying colors. I guess you may have to try a new tactic on getting ahold of her for these administering of her meds. Hang in there Penny for it will all be over soon.
  17. Happy Hatchday Sammy and you turn 3 years old on Thursday, my Josey turns 2 on the 25th.
  18. Try to get him under the spray Jimmy, you may have to cut the force of the water back some so it does not hit him so hard but see what he does with it.
  19. Oh you are such a sweet young thing then, only 17 and much too young for me LOL, just kidding with ya. Well heres hoping you get a camera soon as we would love to see Smokey:)
  20. Yeah we must have pictures and sure greys can be girl magnets, we all know that a man with a dog is a girl magnet, I don't see why it won't work with a grey also, try it sometime and see what happens, that is if you aren't married, if you are forget everything I said:blush: B)
  21. I bet that was a sight to behold Pat, good for you in getting him to learn to step up and I bet that dance was funny to see, wish you could have caught that on video, we all could be laughing:laugh:
  22. Yes a lot of people gush over a red factor grey because you don't see a lot of them but what they do have may molt out at any time, so they may or may not keep that red. Just consider Smokey one of the lucky ones as he has some red on him besides his tail, hey it could be a girl magnet too.
  23. Josey likes round balls with a bell inside and it has holes in it, she will destroy the ball to get to the bell inside.
  24. Way to go there Jackie, you do have the hang of posting pics now, so we expect to see more of Pooky:) B)
  25. Thanks Pat for the update on Tobie and I pray for more time for him too. Its good that he likes his pellets and yes vets do differ on what they consider the best to feed but we all go with what our own vet says. Don't dwell on what could have been, the damage is done so focus on now and what future you have with Tobie so it can be the best of his life. Please continue to update us on Tobie, we have come to care for him like he was our own.
