I second Mary's suggestion, only an avian vet would be able to tell you the answers to those questions. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room.

Bella is a cutie pie, that adorable little face is precious, thanks for sharing that with us:) B)

Siobhan and Tracy have just about said it all and each grey is different and after a while you will come to know what yours will allow and like by their actions and reactions, you'll learn their body language and when you understand that you have it made. Josey likes neck scratches and she will allow me to touch her most anywhere and also she will sometimes let me get her body up against my neck for cuddles while I gently stroke her neck and back. I know when she gets older and sexually mature the back rubbing will be out, don't want her sexually frustrated, but for the time being there is no harm in it.

Sorry JC for the problems with Bobo but a lot of greys will choose a favorite person and he has already chosen you but she can still have a relationship with him, just not like yours. She needs to be the one to give him the treats and maybe when she does handle him you can go to another room so he cannot see you, he may take to her better if his favorite person is not in the room with him. She does need to show no fear or he will pick up on that and react to it, he probably already has and maybe if you can take him to another room in the house for her to work with him, somewhere where he feels less secure, he will be more willing to cooperate with her. These are just a few suggestions and some of the other members will have some better ones.

What was Que chowing down on, it looks like carrots but not sure, she enjoyed them whatever they were, thanks for sharing it with us Tari.

50 grams is a lot to lose but if he is weaning and being very active and maybe trying to fly then yes they usually do lose some during that period but it should be put back on soon. I've not had any experience with handfeeding but some of the members have and they will chime in soon with their thoughts and suggestions. Tonja, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and your baby grey.
-
Yes you may Sandra, a lot of times someone only wants a baby grey but for those who it does not matter a rescue can be the way to go and there are lots of members here who have gone that route and have wonderful companions with their rescues and rehomes, thank you for suggesting it.B)

I don't think you have to worry about anything sexual related for a while as you have a baby grey and he won't mature for years yet but he sees you as his caretaker and he wants to feed you and if he does it to both of you so much the better.

Well guys and gals its Friday the 13th again so if anything strange happens today I want to hear about it as this is the only Friday the 13th all year and it happens to be my birthday today too so I will let you know if I have any bad luck today. I'm hoping I won't as I have my 7 year old granddaughter for the day and we are going to see a movie, eat out and do some shopping. So let the Friday the 13th shenanigans begin:ohmy:   :silly:  :side: :pinch:

That was so cute even if Topaz wouldn't talk, I enjoyed it and your singing wasn't that bad, at least you got the guts to post it. Joey does love those scratches doesn't he, spoiled rotten by his mom no doubt but thanks for sharing them with us.

This place is my "secret tip" and you won't find a better bunch of people than right here, the kind of people who care about one another and help each other with their problems with their birds. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can.

Oh come on Siobhan, you want to know, you know you do, heck I want to know now that you have gone and got the kit, so bite the bullit and do it, so what if she is a he, at least you will know. Yep JC the DNA sexing is the only way to go in my opinion, and thats just my input. :cheer:

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2008/06/12 17:24

He probably is playing JC and especially if he is regurgitating while this is going on, that is a sign of affection so count yourself lucky. Attacking one of his toys is just how a lot of them play, my Josey will attack some of her toys with a vengence, I think to make as much noise as possible with it. When he nips you might have to start telling him no bite and turn your back on him and walk away for a few minutes and then try again. They don't like being ignored and soon he will learn that biting is not acceptable.

Oh my Caroline, in the future you need to check yourself in the mirror before you step out the door but the look on your face must have been priceless:pinch: Wonderful graphic Tracy, my sentiments exactly:woohoo:

Being that this is your first grey it will be very exciting for you, I remember when I first brought my baby home and if you continue to read the threads you will find lots of help. It's normal to be a little nervous but you will do fine so don't worry whether or not you can handle it, we are here for you any time you need us and will be more than willing to guide you in the right direction, just believe in yourself. You are about to embark on a remarkable journey, enjoy.

You're right JC, the only thing he did wrong was get rid of his grey because it was saying that man's name, obviously he didn't really love that bird much or he would have found a way to make it work. Sorry JC if it seems that us women here give the men a hard time but sometimes it is deserved and we are more than happy to give what we get. But you are welcome to rock my boat anytime:laugh:

What to clean a cut on the (bird's) face with?
judygram replied to SFsailor's topic in The GREY Lounge
Ok James, the ball is in your court so to speak:huh:  -
That is such a darling shot of your baby, it is so precious standing there looking at you with those dark eyes like it is pleading, pick me up please, thanks for sharing that with us and thanks for the compliment.

Hello Satchel and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you are getting. I assume this is your first grey but you are not new to birds as you have 3 cockatiels but you are doing the right thing in finding out all you can before you bring it home. You have already started reading our many threads but read as many as you can for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. When you can get some pictures of your new baby if you would share them with us we would love to see it.

Tyco is unique, one of a kind, hey maybe you can get a pic of her eating while hanging upside down:whistle:
-
Now Josey won't hang from my fingers but she does hang upside down in her cage or on her playstand but then it doesn't surprise me about Bella as she is quite the character:lol:
-
Same here, I think Tyco just loves to do things differently, it sets him apart from the crowd.
-
Phew, stinks to me too:sick:
-
Hocke230 why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and this new to you grey.
-
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, I heard that one in a movie but it applies. I have my two travel cages nearby just in case and of course I no longer have an inside cat anymore:(
