  1. He feels more vulnerable on the bottom of the cage hence he comes up when you enter the room. Always allow him to come out of the cage on his own as some greys can be cage aggressive, they view their cage as their safety zone and do not like the intrusion of hands. My grey cracks me up sometimes when she imitates my laugh, it is so funny to hear yourself laugh coming out of a bird's beak. It sounds like Escher is settling in nicely and so glad you are enjoying your new companion.
  2. Stupid is as stupid does according to Forrest Gump!
  3. No question is silly, she may have missed you and is showing her appreciation for your presence.
  4. Greys do not like change and bringing something new into the room would cause them to stress out, I know my grey will freak when I bring something new into the room where she is and a large box like what a tv would come in would have her freaking out, they are always in predator mode where they have to be alert to everything to stay alive in the wild and they are still wild. Just give her some time and be more careful with introducing new things around her.
  5. Bed Bath & Beyond has them for about $20 but that doesn't help Julie because she is from the UK, sorry Jooles.
  6. This is what my old t-shirts are for, I can just change it if it gets poop on it though I don't mind it as much, I just think its part of sharing your life with birds.
  7. My sun conure is the same way, she is capable of flight but only uses it when she is startled or really wants to go back to her cage, she will get near the side and start screaming for me to come get her, lazy turd.
  8. Congrats on your boy Thane and he is just adorable, love that blush he has and snuggling up there next to you, definitely get used to beak wipes as they regard our clothes as suitable wiping cloths, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  9. Exactly Jeff, it does show how precious life is and that we can be here one second and gone the next, my thoughts and prayers go out to those affected, makes me count my blessings for my mountains I live in.
  10. He looks amazing from the pictures you shared with us, looks like things are going well for you both, glad to hear it.

    Urgent help

I think you have hit on why she is picking at those feathers, it is a sign that something is bothering her, the preen gland and I think when the infection clears up so will the picking but if you have any doubts at all just give your avain vet a call, nothing like hearing it from the horse's mouth and we aren't vets. I hope it clears up soon.
  12. It usually isn't a sucker punch unless they have their eyes looking up when they are doing it, they will be watching for the right time to nail you but standing on one foot while doing it usually means they want a head scratch.
  13. I look forward to these, so true.
  14. Nikki, you are adorable, now the real fun begins.
  15. Hello Robin and Chris and welcome to our family. CJ is just starting to settle into his new home so be sure to give him plenty of time to do that, 3 weeks is not nearly enough time for him to unpack his bags and feel comfortable. It could take weeks or months before he feels comfortable enough to interact with you for you have to gain his trust so please don't try to rush things with him, let him come to you when he is ready to do so. I know you hate to see him pluck his feathers but do not make any reaction to it as it can be interpreted as encouragement to keep doing it, just ignore it for now but has he been to see an avian vet for it could be a medical reason he is doing it but more than likely it is due to stress. Just take things slow right now and allow him to feel safe and secure and he will eventually come around, do offer him treats from time to time and sit by his cage and talk to him for you would be surprised to know how much they understand. He is a lovely fellow from the picture you included in your opening post and thanks for sharing it with us.
  16. You will do just fine and its perfectly normal to be a little nervous, looking forward to seeing some pictures of your new baby soon.
  17. Thanks so much Dan. Josey is doing just fine, she chomped down on a chicken bone last night with nothing but crumbs left, it was thoroughly enjoyed.
  18. In my opinion I would think they would not be safe, made of foam they would be able to tear them up quite easily and maybe consume some part of it, better to get them some wood or other hard material to chew on.

    Paint

Dave she might be talking about doing some painting of her walls in her house, seems to me there is some paint that is safe so let her know will ya, thanks.
  20. Hello Mema and welcome to our family. Is this your first grey, first parrot? The waiting is always the worst part but it looks like you have everything ready for the arrival and yes you will come to love and cherish this bird as if it was a human child, that's how much they mean to us. If you have some pictures of your new baby you would share with us we would love to see them.
  21. Can this just be the end of it, I mean please.
  22. I think some more editing is in order Dave as you are still repeating yourself, check thru your post carefully and quit sipping the wine.
  23. Don't ignore the humble cockatiel for they do pack a lot of personality in a little package and in my experience they are quieter than the conures, I have a sun conure and she can scream at times, makes a great first bird.
