I call it jibberish, Josey went thru this for quite a while before she started saying actual words or phrases, I guess they are practicing making their sounds and perfecting the vocalizations in preparation for speech.

Hello Oppie and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Spencer. That is the way to go if you have more than one chick to choose from and it does make you feel special to have it pick you and not vice versa. The cage size sounds adequate and you will need several toys to add to the cage and maybe several rough cement perches, the rough ones help keep the talons filed down and be sure to get them of different sizes and diameters to keep the feet in good shape. You will find loads of useful information in our many threads so browse thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions and we will help you in any way we can. When you go visit Spencer try to get some pictures, we here at the forum love looking at the baby greys as they are so adorable when this young and then we will be able to see the development as Spencer grows into a beautiful Tag.

Just relax and everything will be ok, its not like you haven't been with her, she will just be in her new permanent home and things will go more smoothly if you just take it in stride. Oh and get a good nights sleep tonight, I know the morning will be like Christmas morning but you need to be well rested to start your life with Chloe.

Thats a very good sign Stephanie, he's just glad to be home, give him a snuggle for me will ya:lol:

Thats cute Caroline, you got a shot of two of them, I guess Keeko decided you weren't going to take a pic of just Charlie by himself, he wanted in on it and succeeded in doing just that, thanks for sharing it with us.

Nervousness is normal but if you really want a grey then you will need to overcome that as greys are very perceptive of our emotions and feelings. You really should not be nervous since you have been raised around birds but maybe a grey is a little bigger than the ones you are used to. You really should be more excited than nervous, greys can only bite but then you already know that and if you are afraid of being bitten then maybe a grey is not the bird for you. I am not trying to talk you of of getting one, I just want you to be sure a grey is the right bird for you for you will have it for a long time to come. Only you can decide if this is what you really want but make sure you are 100% committed before you actually make a purchase, know what you are getting into because we hate to see grey owners get one and then decide they don't fit in their lifestyle and get rid of it, rescues are full of those kind of birds.

Hello Heather and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this search for a grey. You have come to the right place looking for help as we have lots of members here who are willing to go out of their way to answer any questions you may have and help you with your decision. I can understand your being a little nervous but if you are determined to get a grey then you will have to get over that as the bird will pick up on that so you need to be confident that you can handle it and we will help you find out if you are a right fit for a grey. Have you ever had birds or parrots before? Since you have dogs and a cat you will have to ensure the greys safety around them as dog and cat saliva can be fatal to a grey. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Due to their long lifespan a grey is a lifetime committment, one not to be taken lightly but if you feel you are ready to take on that responsibility then you will not be disappointed, greys are awesome creatures and you will not know how you got along without it in your life. Feel free to cruise thru the forum, ask questions and pm anyone you think you might want more information from, take advantage of us, we welcome it.

danmcq wrote: They do that because they can:laugh:  :woohoo: I just had to comment on the pictures, that looks like a wonderful relationship between Rexxy and your dogs, glad they get along so well but you will need to be more careful of Rexxy does not come into contact with any dog saliva, not so much for the graphic reasons that Dan gave but for the other one of being full of bacteria that could kill your grey.

But to answer your question, tomatoes are fine to feed to your grey, Josey enjoyed them out of the garden this summer. Josey also enjoys spaghetti as she does most any pasta and she gets some of the sauce on hers as well, just be careful of any pieces of onion in it, onions are one of the forbidden foods. Their poop color will be determined by what they eat so do not be concerned if some of the color of what they eat passes along in the droppings. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and this grey.

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2008/10/24 16:44

Try feeding your grey some fresh beets if you want to see some color to the poops, we grow them in our garden in the summer and Josey eats them and the next morning she drops the prettiest reddish poop with pink too where the white part would be, very colorful but still poop:sick:

Wow Saturday is the day for Chloe's homecoming and I know you will not sleep tonight, will be like waiting for Christmas morning.:pinch:  This little one is going to be much loved and spoiled and I can't wait to see some more pictures when you get her home, can't wait, can't wait:laugh:

They are just like human babies, so cute and adorable when babies and then they do grow up but we love them anyway but its hard to not to love those cute little dark eyes and the baby fluff, thanks for sharing the pic with us. Marion has finally gotten the hang of posting pics and she wanted to share her baby's pic with us even though it doesn't look like that anymore, got more you want to share with us Marion, we would love to see them.

OMG, what a bad boy Cricket is but lucky indeed to be alive with only a burn mark on his beak, I shudder to think of what could have happened. You are wise to enclose all electrical cords especially since you have a bird that likes to go around exploring on the floor. Please let us know what the vet says about Cricket and his firestarting adventure:ohmy: but he is one blessed bird to be alive.

Congrats Brittany on getting Pepper, he is a precious looking baby grey, thanks for sharing some pictures with us. Most birds do have a fascination with jewelry, hence I don't wear any at home, not too fond of having them tear up expensive gold earrings, bracelets and necklaces and they can ruin them in a second's time. You are doing the right thing in visiting Pepper all you can before you bring him home, the bonding process is already being put in place. Give him a little squeeze for me will ya;)

Thank you Pat, Mary and Zooman for giving Slurms some information on the ringnecks, I knew you all would be helpful for you either have one or know about them, karma for you all for your help.
-
I am so envious of your ability to get your grey to lay on his back, Josey refuses to do that but my sun conure will, she is the little ham. :cheer: Thanks for sharing the pics with us.
-
My grey does the yawning too, like Caroline said it is normal. Josey settles down fairly quickly after she is covered at night but they are all individuals so some might take a bit, just ignore it.
-
OMG, those two are just adorable, love the first picture, like the others have said, those dark eyes just melt your heart, thanks for sharing Saphira and Thorn with us, you should be very proud.
-
Oooohhhhh, that is spooky looking Erika, "the faceless grey":blink: :ohmy: can't fault Baxter for getting into the Halloween spirit, thanks for not deleting that and sharing it with us. {Holidays-00020128}

Nautiquejimmy, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your grey.
