You can use either or both, I sometimes give Josey a shower with water then finish her off with some juice, I give her a good soaking in the shower then spray some of the juice on her while she is still wet.

Oh he does look so much better Pat, think of how much better he will look in a few months time with your loving attention, Gizmo is one lucky bird, thanks for sharing those photos with us Pat.

Hello Nikki and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new Tag. She sounds like a real sweetheart, no wonder you are so enthralled with her and a quick learner too, of course we all think that we have the smartest one. I can understand your situation with the conure as I have a sun conure that I got before I got my grey and she is a little jealous but she gets things first since she was there before the grey. I am sure you will be able to find the balance that works for the 3 of you as I did. For lots of useful information please read thru the many threads and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Ifyou have some pictures of your grey you would like to share with us you are more than welcome to post them for us to admire.

Congrats to Erika, Caroline and Toni on their new moderator status, I know all three will do their best in their respective rooms and also all three are personal friends to me, welcome to the team, girls.

Thanks Stephanie for sharing the pictures of your Halloween setup with us, that Gryphon is one lucky grey. {Holidays-0002012A}

No one is going to fault you for any ignorance or I would have been gone a long time ago and you can't learn if you don't ask questions. You want to know more and you will learn lots here, all you have to do is ask and Dave is one of our more knowledgeable members, he will help you with your problem with George.
-
Marla, can you just open his door and allow him to come out of his cage on his own, he will come out and explore when he feels comfortable doing so. Most greys can be territorial about their cages and do not like their owners coming into the cage after them. Open his door and stay in the room and talk to him and play with some of his toys, act like you are really enjoying yourself with the toys and he won't be able to resist coming out to find out what is so much fun, greys can be very curious.

Hello Marla, the first thing you want to do is not pay any attention to his plucking, ignore it. You don't know why he is plucking but some will do it for attention and if you pay attention when he plucks it may encourage him to do it more. I wouldn't worry too much about the plucking right now, he really needs to be seen by an avian vet for full bloodwork to determine if there is any physical reason for the plucking. Most plucking is for behavior or emotional reasons and sometimes it takes a while to figure out why so this could take some time. Don't be discouraged if you feel you sometimes have to take a step back, you are making progress and if you aren't working then you do have the time to work with George. I would work with him for 10 to 15 minutes at a time for several different times during the day with spending a lot of time sitting by his cage talking to him, reading the newspaper or a book to him, offering him treats from time to time to help him get more relaxed with you. He has to come to trust you before he will bond with you. You say he bites a lot, are you pulling back or reacting to the bites? Any type of reaction or pulling back may be seen as entertainment and that only reinforces more biting. Some of the other members will chime in with their ideas and suggestions for we have many members who are capable of giving you some good advice and willing to help someone in need.

Hello Marla and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and George. You are not the first person to take in a grey that has not been handled very much and you certainly came to the right place looking for help as we have some members who have gone thru the exact same thing. This will take lots of time and patience but the results will be worth it if you are willing to do what it takes to win George over. You have already been given some encouragement from Baxtersmom, she went thru the same thing with her grey. You will also find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Would you share some pictures of George with us as we would love to see him.

Hello Ahmad and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Naji. Sorry to hear your grey may be sick, even though we have some very knowledgeable members here they do not take the place of a qualifed avian vet. You are welcome to post your question and we will try to help you as much as we can. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information that may help you in some way and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of Naji and if you need help we have a section in the FAQ tab that may help you in doing that.

I take Josey on a yearly visit unless something is amiss, I don't really see the need especially if all tests come back negative or there is no problem. Josey does not mind the vet visits but since AnnaBella does stress out why take her every six months when you don't need to.

What a great idea and I hope you do, that would be something to see.:silly:
-
OMG, we all should have one of those Dave, thanks for putting a smile on the old face today:cheer:
-
Mareeee thanks for sharing those with us, that is neat what you can do with pictures in photoshop, wish I had the time to fool with it:S :cheer:
-
Teko, you will have to share a picture of your grey's cake you make for him especially since it is coming up soon.
-
Oh Jen how precious those babies are, so small and fragile looking, thanks for updating us on them, can't wait to see the next picture, they change so quickly at such a young age.
-
Wonderful picture Susan and is that a picture of you, your hubby and kids on the wall in the background?
-
Nice swing Susan and Chloe is enjoying it, I will have to get one for Josey, thanks for sharing it with us and I know about the antlers, they are off limits to the birds, heaven help if they would get chewed on, those are prize trophies:whistle:

BaxtersMom wrote:  Glad you said that and not me:whistle: Seriously, Erika you do have a big heart and I commend you for what you want to do, not everyone can open their hearts like you are willing to do. I hope this bird is still available and you hear about it soon.

Nims, I don't have any advice for you as I have never taken in an older bird, all mine were babies but I just wanted to congratulate you on taking Ice in and giving him a good loving home, I know he will be taken good care of by someone who obviously loves him very much. I see Erika has given you some excellent advice as she has been in your shoes before and knows what to tell you to expect. I look forward to hearing more after he comes home with you and maybe some pictures too.

This is wonderful that you take your bird with you to places like that and you are right, most people just love seeing them and they are a people magnet. Some of the members of the bird club I belong to do take their birds to places for people to see them and learn more about having birds as pets.

I cook a little oatmeal for Josey almost every morning and I mix in a little red palm oil and some baby food. I cook it in the microwave then add the oil and some vegetable baby food such as carrots, sweet potatoes or butternut squash. She eats it right up, I feed it with a small baby spoon and my sun conure gets a little of it too, can't leave her out. Some members here use the packets of instant oatmeal in flavors, I don't because I only feed 2 birds and a whole packet would make too much but if you have a half dozen birds then 1 packet would be enough.
-
It sounds to me like you have considered about everything in whether to take this bird in or not. I say go with your gut instinct, you know yourself better than anyone else but this bird seems to have selected you and he certainly needs a home and deserves to have someone to love him and give him the attention he desires. Linda, let us know what you decide but more importantly let us know when you bring him home with you for I can tell you have given this much thought, not that you needed it but you have my blessing.
-
To me that looks like a good bite but then Josey has never bitten me, I know its coming but she just doesn't clamp down, she is very easy going so far, makes me wonder what you all are doing to make your greys bite like that:S I know it depends on the temperment of each individual grey and I guess I got lucky. I do allow both of my parrots to sit on my shoulder and Sunny, my sun conure lives there, Josey is content to sit on a playstand most of the time but she gets shoulder time too when I can run the conure off. I don't wear any jewelry at home for obvious reasons.
