Those are some nice pictures of Slater, what a handsome guy he is, thanks for sharing some pics with us Caitlin.

Yes Nhrh, this is typical grey behavior, my Josey is a pretty much laid back grey but she has her moments that she can get downright vicious and it is mostly to do with a bell. It probably helps release some frustrations so don't worry about that. He is telling you he is not ready to come out of his cage if he is moving away from you or turning his back on you, he is asserting his independence, his right to make his own choices so back off and try him a little later.

Hello Caitlin and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Slater. They are amazing creatures aren't they and we all love ours to death, I could not imagine my life without my Josey, she is 2 1/2 years old. So you are studying to be a veterinarian, how about specializing and become an avian vet as we could always use more of them. I know you are a busy girl, going to college and taking care of animals but our pets do make our lives so much more complete and I think we are happier individuals to have them in our life. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. No to make it complete if you would share some pictures of Slater with us we would love to see him.

My opinion is not waste your money on them for like everyone else you get bombarded with emails trying to sell you their goods.

Well I see a pic of a grey I take to be Opal in your avatar, she is a beauty all right but we would love to see some more pictures please when you can manage it.

Hello FurNFeathers and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Roscoe. I am afraid you have your work cut out for you, it won't be easy and you must be very patient for this process will take lots of time. Usually breeder birds do not make good pets ad you may never get this bird to accept you the way a bird that was handled as a pet would have. I would leave his cage door open when you are around to supervise to allow him to come out when he is ready, leave all his food and water inside so when he gets hungry he will have to return to the cage to eat and then you can close the door, that way you do not have to handle him. I wouldn't try to force yourself on him at this time but talk to him softly and maybe play with some toys where he can see you and pretend you are having a wonderful time. I have been told that pet greys do not make good breeder birds and breeder greys do not make good pets so you may have to work at this for a long time and I am talking in terms of years, he will not come to trust you for a very long time so I can't stress patience enough. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I would ask you to share some pictures of Roscoe with us but taking a photo may be too stressful for him at this time but if you do already have some then that would be great.

We call this chicken scratching and Twila is just trying to get your attention or wants you to come let her out of her cage or come get her, my Josey still does it from time to time, nothing to worry about.

Hello Gilbert and welcome to the family, so glad someone recommended us for the best place for advice for that is exactly how we feel about our site. How soon is soon that you will be bringing your grey home, this week, this month or next year? Is this your first grey, first parrot? You will find loads of useful information in our many threads and we have so many knowledgeable members who will share what they know with you, all you have to do is ask so do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Will you be visiting this grey before you actually bring it home, if so please take a few pictures and share them with us as we would love to see it.

Hello Pass135 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Opal. I love the name Opal, is your grey a female or a male, I am assuming it is female by the name. I would be interested in seeing the finished product of this garden cage/pedestal as it would be a useful thing to have when we work outside for a while and we could keep our grey close by for company. You can read thru our many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Opal you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

A question about trimming flight feathers
judygram replied to Journeyman's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
My opinion is let him keep his flight feathers and allow him the freedom of flight especially since you take the precautions, no open doors or windows and such. The other members who do have flighted birds do enjoy seeing them flying about the house and I am allowing Josey's wings to grow out so she can fly too. -
Josey loves chicken and occasionally gets a little wild turkey, dove or pheasant. One word of caution if you give your grey a chicken bone to knaw on and break down so they can get to the marrow inside, keep an eye on them while they have it to make sure they don't injure themselves with a sliver that can break off during the crunching process.

As far as dried papaya, pineapple and other dried fruits I order mine from www.drsfostersmith.com as they are free from sulfur dioxide, I try to be as careful as I can.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Obi, I know you did all you could to help him but it just wasn't meant to be but you will be reunited with him one day at the Rainbow Bridge. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
-
Thanks Jim for it is good to be back among my good friends here. B)
-
I missed them so much Jim but I seldom get away for any length of time and this trip was not to be missed, I will always treasure the time spent with my kids and grandkids. Creating their own Skype account is a little extreme but if that is what it takes to make you happy then I am all for it.
