  1. I don't know what kind of a home my Gypsy came from since I found her in my backyard but I think she is a young bird but she just doesn't open her beak enough to get ahold of any skin or maybe she just doesn't want to, don't worry I don't intend to make her angry to see if she will bite but her top beak is sharp and I guess she could get in a good one if she wanted to.
  2. Welcome to your new home Thane, you look mighty handsome, glad to hear you still enjoy the cuddles and I hope that will last but do not be surprised if it doesn't, looking forward to hearing and seeing a lot more of him.
  3. I can't comment on amazons but I have a hard time believing a tiel can deliver a bad bite since they are a small bird with a small type beak, my tiel has never bit me, she has only pecked at me but never getting any skin but I guess it is possible and I will take your word for it Jill, that tiel must have been really pissed off. Josey has never really bitten me, only pinched and without bringing blood but I do respect the fact that she could do a lot more if she wanted to.
  4. Josey will give both of us beaky kisses, I love them.
  5. I agree with Dave on this, she needs to see an avian vet but if you don't take her today take her first thing in the morning.
  6. It could be used as a sleep cage as some of the members use for their greys or other birds.
  7. Its ironic that we celebrate our Independence day, the day we signed the constitution against tyranny from the British but I hold no ill will but now the tyranny comes from within our own country but we will prevail there also, Happy 4th of July to all my American Friends.
  8. Most greys won't use a sleeping hut as they prefer to sleep on top of something high up in their cage, mine sleeps on her boing, my other birds don't use them either.
  9. As I am sure you have figured out by now greys can be very cautious creatures and it takes time for them to settle into a new home and feel comfortable especially when they are no longer a just weaned baby so be very patient with him. It takes time and lots of patience to build that trust that is necessary for you two to bond and it can't be rushed, let him set the pace of what he allows you to do with him and things will go a lot smoother. Even though he may seem like he is not interested in his vegetables you still need to offer them and vary the selection and how they are prepared for some like certain ones specific ways so chop, steam, raw, shredded, mashed or whatever way you can think of to find what he will eat but do keep offering.
  10. Yes we learn something new everyday so thanks Ray for that bit of information.
  11. I agree Jill, so sad for the loss of so many lives, fighting fires is dangerous work and I will keep their families in my thoughts. Here where I live the humidity makes it feel worse but at least we haven't had any days of 100 or over, at least not yet.
  12. Better the wood blocks than your furniture and it keeps her busy and out of trouble.
  13. I am so glad you got her back, it really is scary knowing that hawks are nearby when your baby is on the loose outside, you are lucky, very lucky.
  14. I love this picture, always a wonderful sight to see wild greys in their natural habitat.
  15. Not fully free yet but soon, at least she won't have to wear it during the day, poor dear has been thru the wringer but I see all smiles soon.
  16. I am so glad this all worked out, poor dear to have to stay in the airport overnight and grow hungry so you asked and someone delivered but he is home now and all that is behind him, he sure is a sweetie from the picture you shared.
  17. To many this may not seem like much but to us grey owners we know exactly how you feel, small steps add up to huge things and you are well on your way to greater things with Elliot, glad to hear of this wonderful progress.
  18. Yum yum is her expression and I love that look in the last picture, you caught her with her eyelids partly closed, I just bet you are so very glad you got her back and it looks like she is over her ordeal of two days on the lam, yum yum give me some more please.
  19. Jill I don't usually wear nail polish so if I do it causes a problem, now if I kept them colored she would eventually get used to them like your fids but I neither have the time or the inclination to keep them polished so plain Jane is me.
  20. Yes greys can be very leery of what we are wearing, I personally haven't had any incidents with clothing but my grey does not like me to paint my fingernails, if I do she freaks out. Very good advice.
  21. I been saying this for years and no tongue in cheek about it. I think you better research and research some more for you have your work cut out for you to get her into the US but I admire your determination and hope it is possible.
  22. This makes me very happy to hear she is doing so well and looking forward to the removal of that cone, thanks for updating us on her, what a trooper she has been thru it all.
  23. I wouldn't think 5 hours would be sufficient to air out chemicals used in exterminating pests, I am thinking more on the lines of days or even weeks, you need to do more research on what exactly they are using and what is recommended, your avian vet may be of some help also.
  24. I don't have any experience with them either but think they are a legit organization if that helps.
  25. If only they had taken her in to see an avian vet but that's all water over the dam now, at least she is back in the fold with you and she will have the best possible life, heres to a long and happy relationship.
