The Midnight Man - Catherine Bach

Awwww, that would be so cute.

Congrats on your Murphy coming home soon, thats too bad his wings are already clipped but too late now, looking forward to seeing some more pictures especially when he comes home.
-
Now that is just about the prettiest thing I have seen all day, Echo is an adorable grey baby, you should be so proud, thanks for sharing that little bugger with us.
-
Josey is real good about going back into her cage at bedtime, usually she is already in it when I get ready to close it up and cover her. I have never had a problem with her going back into her cage, if she is somewhere other than on top of her cage I just put her into the cage and close the door. I don't know why you all are having a problem, I must have her trained right.
-
Please make it a clean sock too, just thought I would throw that in there:whistle:

I think this poster is just trying to start something, to get under our skin and he is succeeding with a few of us, pay him no mind and ignore this, he isn't worth getting yourself in a huff over.

Thanks for sharing those pictures of your flock and yes I can see where Rhett has been busy with his feathers but he still is a handsome grey and AppleJax likes showers it seems.

Hello Pughster and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. Is his name Pughster? I don't know why a breeder would only clip one wing, that makes the bird unbalanced when trying to take flight and practically ignoring this bird because it was the last one is another sign of a breeder that just doesn't cut it with me. No wonder he is a little shy and is nippy but if you continue to work with him and give him lots of time to get comfortable in his new home then he will learn to trust you and maybe the biting will subside. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We so love pictures here so if you have some of your grey you would share with us we would appreciate it.

Hello Kathy and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Ziggy. It does sound like you hit it lucky when you got Ziggy, for usually breeder birds do not accept humans like the pet greys but understand since you have only had her for a short time she may still be in the honeymoon phase, so be prepared for some less than sweet behavior. Yours is proof that not all greys will talk and if she just mimics other sounds then that is great and if she could dance that would be wonderful to see, my grey is not interested in dancing at all, but she does talk. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Ziggy you would share with us we would appreciate that very much.

Shannon, why don't you officially introduce yourself in the welcome room so we can properly welcome you to our family.
-
Now thats just plain disgusting:sick:

That last statement says it all, thanks Dave. B)

He probably did Shelia and since he allows you to play with his feet then that just made it easier, Josey does not much care for me fooling with her feet so my arms are a little scratched but I accept it as life living with a grey.
-
You need to provide him with some more foraging opportunities to keep him busy so as to keep his focus off his feathers and do provide him with lots of stuff to shred. Does he like chewing wood? Some plain blocks of wood could keep him busy for quite a while. Feel free to post a more recent pic of him, we have seen the bad and the ugly before but underneath they are still the adorable little buggers we fell in love with, you gotta love them.

In my opinion the only real differences in the Cags versus Tags are the outside appearances, Tags are smaller, have a bone colored beak and a maroon tail, whereas the Cags are larger, have a black beak and a bright red tail. Maybe there are more subtle differences in personality but not much, maybe some of the more knowledgeable members will chime in with their two cents worth. I prefer my Cag but then if I had gotten a Tag then I would probably prefer it but the Cag was more readily available when I was looking.

OMG Erika, Dana's Rhett might have Cooper beat on messy beak, that is one messy looking grey beak but he looks like he is enjoying himself immensely, thanks for sharing that with us.<br><br>Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/04/26 23:18

Hello Dana and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rhett and yes even AppleJax. Your birds are beautiful, greyt pictures of both of them and sorry Rhett has started chewing his feathers but that is a common reaction to stress and a move can certainly qualify for that. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We do have several members here with eclectus parrots, Baxtersmom and MrsB to name a couple, both of theirs are rehomed birds but I am sure they would welcome any comments from you since you have had yours from a very young age.

Shannon I think this could work for you if you take the advice of the others who posted ahead of me, you know your children and pets. As Dave said most small children are too loud and quick moving for greys to be comfortable around but if you have a serious talk with them then it may work out. Introduction to other pets you have around the house should be taken slowly and never leave your grey outside of his cage unsupervised when the cat or dogs are in the room. An african grey can be a good addition to your family as long as you know what their requirements are and willing to take on a lifetime committment to one.
-
That would work but I would have to bake one every day and you know that once on the lips forever on the hips, I would be bigger than a house but its a good thought. BTW, I like mine with vanilla ice cream.

Thats great Mark but don't be surprised if you experience a little setback from time to time as that is going to happen but you are making progress that will go a long way in him trusting you, small steps toward a bigger victory. I've never tried clicker training but thats great that you have found success with it.

That is a nice cage and since his old one was so small no wonder he took to this one so fast, I second the other's comments about the different size and material perches, it is better for their feet to use different diameter perches or their feet will suffer. Thanks for sharing those pics with us.

I might have to visit that zoo sometime when I go to visit my son, he lives in upper W VA close to Ohio, I would love to see those greys. Yeah I would be a little insulted too but like another member said mine is hand reared and belongs in my home and heart, my opinion also.
-
That shows you really love him and want what is best for him to inquire first before jumping right in, so many times we hear of it afterwards when damage has been done. A complete vet check is usually the first thing we recommend when there is a problem to rule out anything physical and you have done that so hopefully after you make your final move he will settle in and stop this behavior but time will tell. We do have some threads here that deal with chewing and/or plucking feathers, just do a search to find them, some may be helpful to you.

Verde is home and he is gorgeous from the pictures you shared and it is nice to have someone here that has already gone thru pretty much the same situation with an eclectus, I know Erika will be of much help to you. Thanks for sharing Verde with us.
