  1. So glad to hear it was an almost instead of a did.
  2. Wow, those are amazing pictures Heather, thanks so much for sharing the link with us, God's creatures are so beautiful.
  3. Hello Larry and welcome to our family, we are so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new to you grey you are taking in. I am so happy to hear you are opening your home and your heart for this grey, you are making a lifetime committment but you won't be sorry as greys are amazing creatures as you will soon find out. I also have a sun conure and even though her name is Sunny she is a butt head sometimes too but she is my shoulder ornament, she loves nothing better than to be there with me as I go thru the house doing things. As you have already found out we have many knowledgeable members here who will go out of their way to help you, all you have to do is ask and please continue to read thru the many threads for lots of useful information. I can't wait to see some pictures of this grey after you bring him home if you will share some with us.
  4. I know how you feel Frank, I don't have a concealed carry permit but this is just another nail in the coffin to get rid of our guns, and believe me that is exactly what they want to do eventually, but not from me, no sir, only from my cold dead fingers.
  5. I am sure you will provide a great home for this grey if you take the advice of others on this forum, we do have many knowledgeable members who are willing to help you with any problems and the best one is Dave007, he has many, many years of experience and he will tell you like it is. Why don't you officially introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you.
  6. Fly on the wall, thats what I wish I was while that was going on, I am sure it was the funniest thing to watch.
  7. What a wonderful community you live in and that is one greyt story, I am so glad it had a happy ending.
  8. This is the best news I have heard today, glad to hear Rita is back and I look forward to hearing what her story is.
  9. This is just not right, they should not be able to change the rules once you sign the lease agreement, I would find out if you have any recourse. I do hope you find a solution to your problem and keep us informed.
  10. I know you are torn inside but I think this will probably work out for the best, he will remember him I'm sure and as long as Riley is happy then that is all that counts. Like others have suggested, maybe if you get a just weaned baby grey you can build a good bond with it and have a wonderful relationship. You have not failed, maybe it just wasn't meant to be for you and Riley. Be sure to let us know what happens.
  11. Some are more acrobatic than others, I guess it depends on their personality, Josey does not do a lot of swinging but she does occasionally hang upside down on toys and play but she climbs all over the cage, maybe they do have a little monkey dna hidden in there somewhere.   :woohoo:
  12. I'm gonna guess it is going to be a female too, just a gut feeling, really doesn't matter either way but it does help to give it a name. Can't wait to find out.
  13. Hello Claire and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Loui. Loui sounds like quite a character and full of himself, there must never be a dull moment when he is out and about. You have quite some experience with raising greys and taming them so you probably already know everything about them but if not you will find loads of info in our many threads, advice, pictures, stories and most every subject covered. We welcome questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks for including a pic of Loui in your intro post but if you have others we would love to see them.

  16. I didn't think it was all that loud either and like Dave said, birds chirp and squawk thats what they do and if that bothers you then you shouldn't have a grey or any bird for that matter. I also think the ceiling fan might be bothering him as Josey, my grey hates any kind of wind on her so try turning that off and see if it helps.
  17. Thats great news Roger, she passed the taste test, now if she just continues to enjoy them. Now about the Zupreem, if its unopened take it back to the store, otherwise do you know of anyone with birds you could give it too?
  18. They really are amazing creatures and that about takes the cake for the funniest thing your grey has ever said, PMSL at that one:laugh:
  19. I believe it is each owner's personal choice, if you feel comfortable with your grey on your shoulder then by all mean allow it. I allow Josey on my shoulder for short periods of time, she behaves herself, comes down if I ask and I keep an eye out for her body language and if I have any doubt then I don't allow her there. Josey is a real sweet grey, she has never bitten me, she has beaked me or pushed at me with her beak to show me she doesn't want me doing something she doesn't like but I am well aware of her when she is shouldering me. Some of the other members do allow their grey on their shoulders and some don't, you have to decide for yourself if you can handle it.

    IT'S A BOY

Congrats on your suspicions being correct, so its a boy, a big boy, can't wait to hear what his name is going to be.
  21. No their bites are not quite that bad, yes they can bring blood but I don't think they would split a finger open, they could crush an english walnut but that is only if they can get their beak around it but I doubt they could crush a black walnut as they are too hard, now your macaws are a different story altogether. If you show fear she will pick up on that and then she will bite you for sure, you need to not be afraid and when the time comes to try to have her step up then you offer the back of your hand balled up into a fist, she won't be able to get a good hold on the skin because it will be tight. You may just have to suffer a few bites for her to learn you are not going away. Please read and reread Dave007's post as he is very knowledgeable in greys and their behavior, if anyone here knows it is him, he won't steer you wrong. BTW, what is her name?
  22. Maybe Benji's name should have been Houdini, wanna change it:laugh:
  23. OMG, MBS strikes again, so you are getting another grey, well good for you, you will have twice the mess to clean up but double the fun. Introduce the new one slowly as Echo might not view this new one as quite a plaything yet.
  24. Color doesn't matter except in a few cases where a particular grey may not like certain ones but a new cage will have to be introduced slowly for as you probably already know they do not take to change easily. Get the cage and set it up in the same room but across the room from him and slowly over a period of days bring it closer until he accepts it being there and put food and toys inside and he will probably end up going inside to check it out.
  25. It does make you feel so special doesn't it.
