  1. Hello CongoMongo and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and hopefully your new grey. I think you will really enjoy an african grey and you do have some parrot experience and you are doing all the right things before making the final plunge, thats the right way so you should do just fine. I enjoyed the story of Gyro even though he is gone, maybe you were the only one he bit but I think those were love bites not angry ones. Continue to read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you want to share some of the green cheek conure and the keets we have an other birds room where you can put them.
  2. Hello Ian and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this baby grey. I have heard of the Maldive Islands, it must be so beautiful to live there but being remote you lack on some things the others here take for granted like the avian vets. If I were you I would become fast friends with anyone you know who either has birds or knows a lot about them to be able to help you if you need it. We have many members here who have either handfed baby greys or are very knowledgeable that will be more than happy to give you any advice, all you have to do is ask. In the meantime read thru the threads in the nursery room, there is a lot of helpful information on handfeeding there and you will find useful info in our many threads in the forum. Don't hesitate to ask us any questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can, We do love pictures here especially of the babies so if you can share some with us we would really appreciate it.
  3. Thanks Bonnie for providing the links, those worked, your baby is adorable and it seems they are always looking for food, I did hear the clicks, thanks for sharing it with us. I am sticking with female as my guess.
  4. You might check with local vets, especially ones that work on horses as vet wrap is mainly used for wrapping the horse's legs, I bought mine from some supply place but that will still take shipping time.
  5. Yes they have very good eyesight, Sunny my conure is the worst for seeing anything fly by the house and that is from inside. We have big windows in the family room and she will notice something thru the window and take flight, it doesn't bother Josey as much, she just sits there and wonders what the heck is she doing.
  6. Was it the same person you talked to when you visited last week? As the 8 year old is the youngest I personally don't think that should be an issue, we have other members here who have even younger children and that child is old enough to be told to tone it down in the house around a grey besides that child will soon grow up and it won't be a problem anymore. Its not like you don't have any birds at all, you have a conure which is a parrot. Think about it some more before you make a final decision about getting a grey now.
  7. Well we take what we get and you are so good at sharing videos of her maybe that is why you have Emma, I love to see her play on her atoms, you have a real ham.
  8. Josey can also do a very good wolf whistle but I haven't heard her try any kind of song but once and I couldn't figure out what it was:blink:
  9. rbpittman wrote: That pretty much describes Josey, she is pretty much content to sit on her perches and watch what is going on instead of instigating it, maybe she is my little angel. She does get boisterious with some of her toys, especially her bell but as far as trying to cause trouble she doesn't. When I first got her she was fearless of new toys but now she is wary of anything new, she kind of sits aside and watches me with it first, like a new food she wants to see me eat it first. She does sometimes hang from one foot in her cage and she is fond of flipping around when hanging by both feet, it looks uncomfortable but she does it from time to time and usually right after I uncover her in the mornings, maybe it is her way of stretching out after a good night's rest, who knows. I love to hear of the stories of Emma and her antics and I don't know why she is the way she is but you got a gold mine.
  10. Sounds good to me Robin, make mine a margarita please!
  11. He does not need to be entertained but he should be handled some, most greys love to cuddle and if he is by himself by all means provide some kind of soft stuffed animal to be "company" for him. Please take a read thru the threads in the nursery room, we have some that deal with handfeeding baby greys and you might find some useful information there and we do have some members here with experience and maybe some of them will be along soon to help you. Have you ever handfed any other birds before?
  12. """And tbh.. I CANT WAIT.""" I hear ya, everyone who decides to get a grey are so impatient waiting for it, I remember when I first got Josey, I had to wait for her to wean and it is like waiting for Christmas morning. You are the type of person we like to see get a grey, you are finding out all you can to prepare yourself for a lifetime committment and that lifetime can be for 60+ years. You are asking questions and not jumping in head first without a parachute, if more parrot owners would be as responsible we wouldn't have so many in rescues or in need of new homes, I hate those who get one on a whim. You will learn a lot from the many threads here so continue to read thru them and ask questions and we will help you in any way we can. Looking forward to hearing when you do get that grey and of course you will have to provide some pics, those are a must.
  13. I think getting a one year old grey will be just fine, at that age they technically are still a baby and have not had time to get set in their ways and bonding to you will go a lot easier than if it was two or three years old. But the decision is yours to make but if you choose not to take the one year old then you will have a wait on your hands versus taking this one right now, are you ready? While I am at it, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about you so we can get to know you a little better.
  14. I was unable to view the videos as I got this message, "The action that you were trying to perform has failed." I will make a guess that your baby is female and that is just a hunch.
  15. Others here have said they have purchased and used rabbit toys for their greys so why not chinchilla toys, it sounds like it would be fun but what would be great is if you could provide us with a pic of said toy.
  16. I'm right again, congrats on Ecko being a girl.
  17. Eureka, when they become cheaper or I find them on sale I will put them in their travel cages and set them outside in the shade and let them make a mess, then all I will have to do is hose down the cages and voila, no mess, you think:blink:
  18. A lot of Josey's toys are hanging with those types of hooks, I will be checking those and maybe replacing them with something else.
  19. That is so cute, I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring, see Jim they aren't so bad after all!:cheer:
  20. Oh Marie I am so sorry to hear this, it must have upset you terribly but I hope he is going to be ok, you have left him in good hands and please let us know what you find out.
  21. Hello Diana and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you want.
  22. Jeff and Skyler look very comfortable holding the greys and kinda cute too, I bet they are up to no good like their grandpa, especially Skyler, you can see that gleam in his eyes. Thanks for sharing those pictures with us Dan, you have a couple of nice looking grandsons.
  23. Ay caramba, look at that cute little Salsa!
  24. Thanks Carol, that is a very nice playstand, did you wrap it with vet wrap? I made one out of pvc pipe and wrapped it with vet wrap and Josey will not go on it, she doesn't like the feel of the wrap. Thanks for sharing some pictures of your latest accomplishment, looks like a winner.
