  1. What a cutie he is, I was tempted at one time to get one but my serious side took over and I came to my senses, I have been tempted by several different species of parrots, caique, indian ringneck, rose breasted cockatoo to name a few but I realize my limit is 3. He is going to be such fun to have around and I am looking forward to hearing the stories you are gonna have to tell us about.
  2. I think I am a member of that same forum and I haven't visited it in more than a year, maybe two and I agree with you.
  3. No sleep tent here either, I never tried one with Josey but it is my best guess she wouldn't use it as most greys won't, I do have one in my conure's cage and one in my tiel's but neither one uses it though I think my conure may have used it a little, she does use a snuggle ring.
  4. I wouldn't worry too much over it, they can have their bad days just like us and since she is eating well today relax a little bit, she seems to be doing just fine.
  5. Hello Merideth and welcome to our family. I also have a sun conure and a cockatiel along with my grey and I can attest to the fact that suns are a lot of bird in a smaller package and my tiel is a real sweetheart but then my grey Josey is too, wonderful companions to share my life with. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your flock.
  6. I think it means exactly that Jeff and that was awesome Dan.
  7. Parrots do adapt to colder temperatures as last weekend when I was in Pigeon Forge I went to Parrot Mountain and it was only in the upper 40's for a start to the day and the birds were outside on their perches though they do go inside at night when they close and November is the last month they are open until spring. There were lots of macaws, cockatoos, amazons, conures and multitudes of other species, we got to feed some of them and one Mtoo climbed on for some cuddling, I would recommend anyone who lives anywhere near or travels to Tennessee to pay them a visit, it was worth the trip, I will probably return for another visit in the future.
  8. Hello Cheryl and welcome to our family. You have an adorable baby grey there and I know you are anxious to get this baby home with you but keep reading all you can and do not hesitate to ask us any question you may have, looks like its going to be a Christmas homecoming, wow what a present to receive.
  9. Well I was all set to compliment your new play area for Cockney when I read of the incident with the lace and its a good thing you were close by, it happens which is why supervision is required, so happy he is back to playing.
  10. This is the best, no doubt about it and its members is what makes it so.
  11. My grey does not like baths or showers but she will tolerate them, not all of us are as lucky as Janet to have birds that enjoy them.
  12. It was my understanding that it is illegal in the UK to sell unweaned birds but your gut instinct is right on, avoid this breeder like the plague.
  13. Hello Wrightrottie and welcome to our family. I am looking forward to seeing some pictures of your new grey when he comes home.
  14. I too have a grey that doesn't enjoy showers so she will not open her feathers but I take my hand and lift them up to get some water in, just keep trying. About the growl, she has only been with you for 3 weeks and she needs more time to feel comfortable in her new home so allow her more time.
  15. Inara never has to fear for her life as Mommy has her back for sure, wonderful how you checked her toy and found the sharp edge before she could have done more serious damage, ok you can breathe now.
  16. You should start seeing some pin feathers come in any time now. Did you have her at the vet's since you brought her home or is this a statement from her previous owner that she is healthy? If you haven't seen her pluck any more then maybe she wasn't getting enough attention or was getting bored at her previous home but the first thing is to rule out anything physical and then go on from there. ps there are no stupid questions.
  17. Hello Grumpy and welcome to our family. You have a wonderful looking grey and he seems to be settling in nicely, looking forward to hearing and seeing a lot more of Cockney.
  18. Josey got her name because it is in the title of a Clint Eastwood movie, The Outlaw Josey Wales, if you hadn't already came to that conclusion I am a big fan. My sun conure is aptly named Sunny, I know its probably THE most common name for a sun but I liked it and that's all that counts in my book. My cockatiel is named Gypsy because she just dropped in on me one summer in my backyard, that was easy enough.
  19. Janet, my daughter and I went to Pigeon Forge this weekend for some shopping and to pay a visit to Parrot Mountain, well my daughter held a mtoo for a bit and loved it how he snuggled up on her and let her stroke him all about but then we went to the nursery section where they had 4 baby toos and she saw how they can really vocalize and act and it cured any desire she had to own one not that she really had any desire to begin with but it was nice to enjoy that sweetness if only for a few minutes. I think Dave and the others are right, you need to really think long and hard about whether you want to add a too to your flock and only you can answer that question but if it is in the cards for you then you have our support and whatever help we can provide.
  20. He looks like a real sweetie pie, a vey handsome fella and settling in nicely, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

    Step up

Positive reinforcement does the trick, thanks Karen.
  22. I echo the others comments about seeing an avian vet and the sooner the better and please let us know what you find out.
  23. This is a quote from one of Dave's posts on bathing:
  24. Happy Birthday to you.

  25. They along with some other birds can be pests but I think it would be wonderful to have them come to your yard to feed.
