  1. Wayne, I am so sorry for your loss of Lilo but I would never have allowed this woman to touch Lilo's wings, she may have been ok with talon trimming but since Lilo had damaged wings only an avian vet should have done anything with them. This woman is a criminal in my opinion and caused Lilo's death so is responsible for that and I would consider bringing formal charges against her since she obviously went against your wishes, she might be knowledgable but she went against the owner's wishes and did something that caused Lilo to die as a result of her actions, despicable in my opinion. Again I am so sorry for your loss and taking her to court will not bring Lilo back but she needs to learn her behavior is reprehensible.
  2. I think this is what she is talking about: http://www.amazon.com/TERRO-Fruit-Fly-Trap-T2500/dp/B002EJLLEE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383841021&sr=8-1&keywords=fruit+fly+trap
  3. Caitlyn, did she pump her head a time or two and bring it up or did she sling her head on bringing it up throwing it everywhere? When a bird regurgitates for you they stretch their neck and pump a time or two bringing up food that is not usually digested and they offer it to you but if they are vomiting they usually flick their head more violently slinging the partially digested food all over an area. From what you describe she is regurgitating for you and since she is otherwise acting and eating normally but do keep an eye out.
  4. I would say she is worth the wait.
  5. I think you are seeing the beginning of the blossoming of Gracie and since she is being stimulated more by her surroundings and you calling to her and answering it will only get better and better, how sad she was kept caged and locked up all by herself, what a delight she is becoming. Gracie is like a pretty little flower bud opening her petals, see her beauty as she unfolds.
  6. He is a great looking grey, thanks for sharing a picture with us.
  7. What Dave has said is true for it happened to my Josey, she came to me clipped at 4.5 months of age and hasn't been clipped since and now she is over 7 years old and just this year has gained a full set of flights. She had been chewing or pulling them out mostly on one side since she was just months old, she can gain altitude now but is not proficient at flying for she has gone so long without doing it her muscles need to be built up again. I don't think she is as confident a grey as she might have been if she wasn't clipped to begin with but thats all water over the dam now but if my telling this has helped another with their grey to leave them flighted then my story helps.
  8. It is normal for them to pick their favorites but that doesn't mean you won't have a good relationship with her but it might just take time. Continue to spend time with her but never pushing her for more than she is willing to give and it time she may be more receptive of you. My grey is bonded to me and didn't want much to do with my hubby but gradually she is coming around where she likes to spend some time with him now, he still can't do some of the things I do with her but it does get better so hang in there and keep the faith. Greys do tend to stand on one foot when perching for a bit, they are just resting that foot, all normal behavior.
  9. I would continue to offer the feedings as long as she will eat them, let her decide when she is ready to stop as it isn't going to hurt if she continues to take the handfeedings, as she eats more and more of other foods she will start to refuse the feedings but let it be her decision. You are doing wonderful with her and yes do work on getting her to step up and have her out of the cage for as much time as you can allow.
  10. Hello Jurey and welcome to our family. Congrats on your new to you grey and it sounds like you all are off to a great start but be sure to read thru as many of the threads as possible for you will find lots of useful information that will be of great help to you in the coming weeks and months as you build a relationship with him.
  11. Escher is so adorable snuggling into your neck, how precious is that and I bet you loved every minute of it.
  12. Both of you are truly blessed to have found one another, she is a real sweetheart.
  13. Well all that is water over the dam now so its best to not dwell on what used to be but what is to come, Gracie has found where she belongs so look to the future for its looking bright and happy, what brings us down only makes us stronger.
  14. Congrats on bringing Dolly home but just take a deep breath and relax for your stressing out will only cause Dolly to react unfavorably, back off and take it slow and easy. Yes she is doing the sucker punch, she draws you in with wanting a scratch but then quickly whips the head around and bites. I would give her a little space for now and let her settle into her new home, she needs time to become familiar with her new surroundings and being cage bound she is experiencing lots of new things. Let her decide when to come out of her cage, talk softly to her and let her make the first move. An older bird will take longer to come to trust you and that trust has to be earned. Be sure to read the Gilbert is Home thread as it is about another grey that has traveled the same road as Dolly, her experiences will be very helpful to you in the coming weeks, months and years. Remember this is something that is not going to happen overnight so be very patient with Dolly as she emerges from her shell and blossoms into the lovely grey she was always meant to be.
  15. Yes use the smaller cage to transport your bird, maybe put an old towel or something in to keep him from sliding around.
  16. Nice bunch of fids, thanks for sharing them with us.
  17. You should not have brought home an unweaned bird, that is what the breeder is supposed to do if they are reputable, burns me up when people are conned into taking on an unweaned bird when they know nothing about what they are doing. I would get in touch with the breeder and get some advice from him. I have no experience with handfeeding myself as I always allowed the breeder do that, so many things can go wrong if you are not careful. Some of the other members who have done this before will come along and give you some advice but in the meantime please read thru some of the threads in the nursery room and good luck.
  18. That woman is a complete moron and just doesn't get it, too bad the hawk didn't try to come after her.
  19. I agree and that is one of the dangers of having a bird outside on a harness, those hawks can swoop down in an instant and a few feathers is the last thing you will see of your beloved companion.
  20. It is preferable to transport a bird in a travel cage, I have seen some people allow them on their shoulders for the ride home but that has all kinds of dangers with it as you can imagine, there are some sites you can order a collapsible wire cage but in a pinch you can use a small carrier meant for cats or small dogs.
  21. Dave is right, each grey needs their own cage where they can call it their home even if they do get along fairly nicely when out on a playstand, greys tend to be territorial about their cages as Dave described and some do not like any intrusion even from their trusted human.
  22. That is scary to see and I would not have taken the time to snap a picture, even though you cannot see that amazon's face you can tell by the posture that bird was terrified.
  23. You made the right decision, bigger cages usually do have wider spacing for they were meant for the larger parrots but you will find what you need for a price you can pay, just keep at it.
  24. Greycie is an amazing grey, loved watching her interact and play with you all.
  25. Hello Jacob and welcome to our family. Since Paco doesn't talk I just wanted to remind you that not all greys will talk either, some choose not to for whatever reason but even if they don't they are still awesome creatures to share your life with. Most greys are not known for being cuddly but as with most other stuff there are exceptions to the rule and we do have a few members here that have cuddly ones, most can be somewhat snugglers when they are babies then they quickly out grow it, what you see on youtube is a small portion of the grey population and if you think about it, most are of actions out of the ordinary, hence is why the video is posted in the first place. Those prices you quoted are quite high so maybe you might consider taking in a rehome grey versus getting a baby grey, they can make fine pets also for they just need the right person to bring out the best, whatever you decide to do we will be here to help you in any way we can.
