I have heard of carpul tunnel syndrome but never knew anyone who had the surgery to correct it, hopefully it will go as well as Bernie's did and you will have no more problems Marguerite.
Do you actually see him swallowing the paper because I doubt it very seriously? My grey will shred and chew up paper but sometimes she is wallowing a wad of it around in her beak before she drops it, she is not ingesting it, lots of greys will do that with paper, kind of like us chewing gum.
Pay close attention the next time your grey does this and observe what actually happens and let us know.
I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your grey.
Yep, just like Josey does, sits there and goes thru her list of words and phrases and I could hear Jake chiming in with his two cents worth, I think I even heard one of the dogs maybe growling at about 3:30 into the clip, thanks Dan for sharing that with us.
If Dave said it would help then trust him as he should know, he has pet and breeder greys and has many many years of experience dealing with all kinds of problems.
Now that I have looked at the picture more closely it does seem to be a bloody area possibly from that blood feather shaft that is right above the area, he is definitely plucking.
I'm sorry to hear that Wyatt damaged her keel bone but glad to hear she is going to be ok. You are so right that we should know the emergency phone numbers of our avian vet for just such an occasion and you did the right thing to not further upset your wife for Wyatt would pick up on that and react.
I will add a little to what Erika and Dan said, they gave you some good advice but when he is in one of these moods don't touch him on certain parts of the body, namely the wings, back, under the wings or anywhere around the tail area as those will only make him worse. Just ignore him when he displays these hormonal behaviors and allow him to calm down before interacting with him.
Yes Lyndsey it will get better, I remember when you lost Macey and it was devastating to you and we shared your loss but time heals all wounds and so this shall pass also.
There will come a day when you will be able to provide a home for another grey if that is what you want, life will settle down and then you can share some of that love you have to give but in the meantime spend time with your mom's grey, even though your mom is the favorite you can still be a part of her life.
That picture looks like he is either chewing at the new pins coming in or he has stripped a section of skin off that area. He needs to be seen by an avian vet for he may need some antibiotics to clear up any infection that may result.
You are an amazing woman Pat, you have a lot to deal with, much more than I could handle but you are probably right about Darius. At least it has given you the impetus you needed to get going on turning that spare bedroom into a bird room, can't wait to see the finished project.
I love these pictures and my favorite is the third one, I like how she is looking right at the camera, if you are going to frame any that would be the one. I'm sure she didn't mind the extra flying time to get those shots as it was well worth it, thanks for sharing them with us.
I don't believe in reincarnation but lets just say if it should happen then it would definitely be a step up if the grey goes to a greyforum member.
I don't think you are smoking anything Marguerite, you just have a different way of thinking and thats not bad.
Hello Anthony and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your fids.
Its so true what you said about animals, like us they were put here for a reason and it would be no world without them.
You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
We do love pictures here so if you have some of Griffy you would share with us we would love to see them, we have an other birds room where you can share some of the other birds too if you like.
Welcome to our family Likajetta.
She does seem to be somewhat of a camera ham, so lovely Rustina is, love her red feathering and thanks for sharing a few pics of her with us.
Those are some great looking toys Adina and I too have to admit I pay for someone else to make the toys I give my fids but I might just have to give it a try, thanks for sharing the pics and the link to the site with us.
Some people aren't very patient but you have to have it when you are dealing with greys and I too think it will pay off with great rewards, think in terms of small steps.
It sounds like you have a plan that is working, just be patient and let it happen.

Thats funny because there is not much wasted space in a grey cage, they climb all over it and such but you are wise to get as big a cage as possible.
I have never purchased a cage off of craiglist but others have and off of ebay too there are some good deals, just be careful.
Mark, aka dblhelix, is right about the bruising, it will turn a blue shade then purple then green as the blood is absorbed by the body but I am glad to hear you have made an appointment with a vet for your grey and let us know what you find out.
I have to agree with Jill, bring him to your home for he will be happier there. Gugu is your bird and he belongs with you even though you are gone during the weekdays, so am I and my two birds are fine, they get used to it. I provide them with toys, keep food and water in their cages and they amuse themselves until I get home and then they are out the remainder of the day and out most of the time on weekends.
He obviously is bonded to you hence he doesn't eat until you visit so take him home where he will see you every day and see if things improve.

No you don't, you love every minute of it Dan and I am loving this story, Dayo wanted a snack and he darn well was going to have it or you weren't going to be able to enjoy your movie in peace, go Dayo, you the man!
Thanks for sharing that with us Dan, karma.
