It breaks my heart to see Spock like this and if only our prayers were all it took then he should be healthy as a horse, I think he probably has more people praying for him than most. I know he will be glad when the last shot is done and over with, maybe there will be some good news when he goes for his next visit, at least I am hoping it is.

What a pretty amazon Joy, looks like a double yellow headed and I assume his/her name is Calypso, tell us more about this lovely bird.

I have heard of putting large wet leaves of greens into their cages and some will roll in the water, wish you had caught that on video but it probably was amusing to watch. I wish I could obtain some sugarcane, I am sure Josey would enjoy it immensely, you are right it is a double treat, something sweet and something they can destroy at the same time, sweetly destroyed.

Dave is right, your grey needs food available at all times, she should have a bowl for pellets in her cage with pellets available for her to snack on. Even though we might feed them meals they need to be able to grab something to eat at other times, even at night some will eat. Pellets, maybe some seeds or nuts should be available and maybe she should be put back to her cage from time to time so she can get to them.

If you are going to use a sleep cage then start off using it from day one, some of the members here use sleep cages for their greys and some don't, I am one that doesn't. Josey sleeps in her big cage, always has. She does have a travel cage that would be about the right size for a sleep cage and she does sleep in it when we travel. It will be a new experience for your grey when you first bring him/her home and if you are going to use a sleep cage then introduce it from the get go.

Sounds like you have your birds spoiled rotten Dave, no sneaking into the kitchen for a snack unless you want to share it with all the birds, funny how you describe it as a pain in the ass.

I don't know anything about clicker training so maybe I should say nothing but maybe she could use the treat to entice him out of his cage and then use the clicker for further training.

That is a beautiful bird and it is unusual in that it's head seems to be smaller in comparison to it's body, unlike other species of amazons I have seen here. Another gorgeous entry into the Amazon of the week series.

There may be others in that room that will be helpful to you too, just browse thru them and glean what you need.

The high potency coarse is what is recommended for greys but you might have to soak them in a little apple juice for instance to soften them to start and then later you can switch him to the dry.

That is a good deal, you lucked out on that one, the only drawback is it is a corner cage so will have to always be in a corner but it is certainly big enough, good find. I'll ignore the comment on the wife!:laugh: :whistle: :laugh:

Avian vets know how to handle birds that stress easily and most of the birds are fine soon after leaving the office but your bird is new to you too and it takes time and since he is doing a lot better you can quit worrying so much, thanks for letting us know he is doing better.

Congrats Reggieroo on making the decision to go with a Congo, you do have to follow your heart and I can't wait to hear more about you and your new grey.

Emma is so adorable and my Josey will not lay on her back either so I am jealous of other's greys who do, thanks for sharing Emma with us.

It looks like its great fun and Rishi is enjoying it, that is encouraging to see and having it close to the floor is a good idea, you are such a caring parront to Rishi, he is so lucky to have you, thanks for sharing the pics with us.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't go too well this morning but hope springs eternal they say, maybe in time it will work better, the thing is not to give up and I know you won't Jules, you know as well as everyone else here that it takes time and patience so don't judge the whole process by one day's accomplishment or lack of. Please do keep us informed but I think you may have progress to report soon, thats a gut feeling. :cheer:

Wow Jules, you continue to amaze me with your talent and I guess you cannot leave Rishi and his family out for they are hurting at the moment too, a wonderful piece of writing, thanks for sharing it with us. I guess you have a double edged sword, you have Rishi who needs medical help and your tiel babies who need you too at the moment but we are all here pulling for Rishi and his family, prayers are continuing.

We have some talented people here and Jules is one of them, great little "ditty" you say, its wonderful and expresses what we all feel, thanks for doing that for Spock and family and sharing it with us.
