  1. What a ham he is, of course he enjoyed his outing with the attention he was getting, he was eating it up, looks like he may be accompanying you on more little trips out, what a conversation piece, he is one handsome fella and a lady killer.
  2. Taking your fids outside for some sunshine is beneficial for them so do not feel guilty because you think they would want to be free if you take them outside, they have been kept inside all the time and know no different, they will enjoy the fresh air. I too have to be careful of mine being in the outdoors for we have hawks that are constantly on the lookout for their next meal.
  3. All greys are wild animals, there is no domestication like with dogs and cats and more than likely the baby grey in the opening post is just reacting to being in a totally new environment which happens with every one of them when they go to a new home, they all react differently and this particular one is stressed out by it and reacting in a more aggressive way. It takes time for a new to you grey to become comfortable in a new home so plenty of time and patience is necessary to make the youngster feel more relaxed and when that happens the growling will cease.
  4. It certainly is Ray, she enjoys just being with you and not just looking for a treat, she knows what side of her bread is buttered, thanks for sharing that with us as it will help many others to understand.
  5. Paul you know where you made your mistake don't you, should have kept putting it on Murphy regularly even though you weren't taking him outside, he is frightened of it now and it will be like starting over from scratch, sorry he reacted that way but thats a grey for ya. Guess you are religated to just bringing him outside in a small cage or carrier.
  6. My fids are going out this weekend for some sunshine as we are going to have some pretty weather, garden time too.
  7. Hear, hear, I can relate to that and agree wholeheartedly.
  8. Be sure to not show your disappointment at the missing feathers as he can pick up on that.
  9. Thats just as well for people who own both parrots and reptiles have to be careful of cross contamination when handling reptiles then birds for they carry salmonella that could kill the parrots.
  10. Yes it should be fine for a few minutes especially if you take her out into the sunshine, would do her good.
  11. Thanks, $4 worth of parts from Lowes works too.
  12. Are the wings drooping when she does this? It could be a sexual thing as Josey does that.
  13. I like the new name and as she uses it more and more she will say her old name less and less. About repeating sounds you do not like to hear just ignore them for you cannot make her not say them but in time she will do it less if you just don't react in any way to it. Lots of greys are not cuddly at all and some do so at night when they are getting tired and ready for bed, count yourself lucky that she will do even that but don't expect her to do it during the day, you cannot make her do anything she doesn't want to so learn to love what she gives you.
  14. I can't imagine that she could eat too much of leafy greens, kale, mustard greens and such are good for them, a lot of us are envious of the fact that your grey gobbles them up as mine just tosses them aside, count yourself lucky.
  15. I know some grey owners do use sleep cages, one such owner does because her grey has night frights and by being in the same room she hears it and gets up to calm her down afterward, also it may help the bird by being in a smaller cage with less room to flap around in. Some owners with the cages in the active part of the house may be up past the bird's bedtime and use sleep cages to put the birds in a quieter part of the house so they get their sleep. It really is a personal choice if you want to use them or not. Lots of members here use air purifiers, I do not but if the dust and dander bother you then by all means use it.
  16. I have heard conflicting information about edamame and frankly I would not take the risk of feeding it to my birds, I tend to go with the old adage of "better to be safe than sorry"
  17. Rocky does show signs of improvement and maybe the vet will be able to shed some light on the plucking problem too. He does have some red feathers, its called red factor and it may or may not molt out the next time, let us know what the vet says and keep us informed.
  18. I can relate to that, "blushes" as Josey does the same thing, it is so funny how they can sound like the real thing but you must quit laughing so much when he does it or you will never hear the end of it. Sorry to hear about the loss of your job but when handed lemons make lemonade, that means you have more time to spend with Mojo, he reaps the rewards and who knows maybe you will find a new one that pays more. Thanks for sharing that with us as some would find that so embarrassing they would not want other people to know they actually fart but they do, everyone does at some time or another. LOL
  19. Glad to hear it, beaks do peel from time to time so now you can worry about something else. NOT
  20. Those are gorgeous pictures of Chili out enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, looks like he just enjoyed a bath in the first pic as you can see little droplets of water on him, thanks for sharing them with us.
  21. I would give my avian vet a call ASAP and ask their advice for you are dealing with a dangerous object to greys, hope it all turns out good for your grey, keep us informed.
  22. Brutus sure was full of questions, wanna this and wanna that, how adorable he is, I think he is a camera ham, thanks for sharing that with us.
  23. Yes any room other than the one with the cage, the bedroom or a bathroom works well for training.
  24. Shelby is so beautiful and is a lucky bird to have such a setup to play on, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  25. Yes just leave them be, Bohdi will take care of them by either trying to pull the shaft out or leaving them to molt out by themselves, no worries.
