  1. You should have asked him where did he learn all this infinite wisdom for he doesn't know squat about greys but our resident expert does and he gave you an excellent answer. I am not as gullible as I used to be and I would have told him to stick with what he knows best and keep his mouth shut about the rest.
  2. I have two healthy children so I know nothing of what you have been thru but we all think we have had it bad but when you think about it there is always someone who has had it worse than we did and it makes me so happy that you are able to take Ruby to Sea World, she truly is a miracle baby who has a strong will to fight, you two are truly blessed to have one another, give her a hug and kiss from me as one of the members of greyforums, hope she has a wonderful time in Florida and many many more happy times to come.
  3. Poor little dear but it looks like Shelby will be fine, probably scared you a lot more than it did him but keep us posted on his condition, he looks a lot like my Gypsy.
  4. What a wonderful opportunity to give an adult grey a new forever home and like Barbara said just be yourself, go in and meet this bird with no fear and accept what transpires and never push. She may or may not "like" you at the beginning but don't take that as a rejection for if you take her home you can work at a good relationship which will take time and much patience on your part but will be certainly well worth it. In regards to question 4 yes sometimes they can pull that "sucker punch" where they seem willing to want you to give them some scritches then turn that head around and nail you but she will test you to see what she can get away with or if you are scared of her. Just relax and be yourself and be sure to let us know what happens and if this grey comes home with you.
  5. Yes it is Kim, many thanks for remembering the name.
  6. Hello Kathy and welcome to our family and congrats on getting your first grey, we look forward to hearing and seeing a lot more of Yuki in the coming weeks, months and years.
  7. It is a big roomy cage but having to pull it out and turn it around to remove the tray for cleaning would be a PITA as you stated and I have to agree with Ray about placement problems as a corner cage is best in a corner and that may not be what works at any given time, you can place a regular square or rectangle type cage most anywhere. My favorite type of cage is the split level that has a playtop on one side.
  8. Hello Netty and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and I hope you realize your dream of owning a grey real soon. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do not hesitate to read thru as many of them as possible and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  9. I haven't seen that wrap in anything but solid colors but that pattern is awesome, thanks for sharing your latest creation with us Carol, our queen of toy making for birds.
  10. So glad to hear he is healthy and doing fine but your earlier post indicated some concern and it is never wrong to consult your avian vet if unsure so in my opinion the $200 was money well spent to know he is just fine. I agree with Barbara, more pictures please.
  11. Hello Jay and welcome to our family, so glad you did find us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and ScoobyDoo. Greys are quite the characters aren't they and they get into your heart and pursestrings very well and it sounds like Scooby is a real sweetheart. Yes we would love to see some pictures of him and I have included a link to a thread that deals with how to post pictures so I hope it helps. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?54297-HOW-TO-POST-PICTURES
  12. I think that is a wise decision to take him to see an avian vet, you cannot be too careful of a baby grey and do let us know what you find out.
  13. Hello Drea and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you have opened your home and your heart for Rocky. The poor dear having to live in such filth but he is in the lap of luxury and it seems he knows it too from what you describe. It does take time but he is coming along just fine and hopefully he will regrow the feathers soon but at least he gets what he needs now and attention is what fills the bill and he will blossom into a handsome fella in no time. Would love to see some pictures of Rocky if you have some you would share with us.
  14. The publishers of Bird Talk probably only care who pays the money for the ads, just because it is in their publication doesn't mean it has their endorsement as many places will state that very fact, money talks.
  15. Yes it could happen to any of us that one of our fids would escape to the outside world but as long as we do everything we can to make sure they are safe in our homes then it does no good to worry about what might happen for worrying over something that hasn't happened yet can make you paranoid or sick. Enjoy your fids and if you have done all you can to protect them then don't worry over what may never happen, we would all be nervous wrecks if we lived our life in the fear of what ifs. I do sympathize with Paul and his lost Murphy and if it is meant to be that he be found then it will be and I keep checking back every day in the hopes I see the post of his happy return.
  16. A lot of those disabled birds do not know they are any different from any other bird and do well with the handicap they have, they climb and hang with the best of them. For those who do have some climbing problems it does better to lower the perches, food bowls and such and probably like many have found a wider and lower cage works best than a tall one.
  17. They do look very proud of themselves, now we know what Dave does with his retirement time, what better way to spend it by raising these adorable babies, thanks for sharing them with us.
  18. OMG Dave, I can't begin to describe how adorable those two babies are falling asleep, how you manage to raise them and sell them is beyond me for I would want to keep each and every one, this rates way up there on the adorable meter like maybe a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10, thanks for sharing them with us.
  19. You sure do have an adorable baby there Barbara and Egan is growing like a weed, they change so much in just a few days time when this size and I know you are itching to get him home with you, thanks for sharing the pics of your sweet baby with us, looking forward to the next batch of photos.
  20. That is one of the many scams out there so you would do best to look into local breeders or rescue, do a google search to find what is local or close enough to manage.
  21. I don't but I am pretty sure one of our members has a grey from them and thinks highly of the breeder if thats what you are referring to, can't seem to remember the name at the moment.
  22. Cupid, please do keep in mind that even a clipped bird can fly if given a good breeze and we have had many members lose a clipped bird because they thought they would not be capable of flight. An unclipped bird has a better chance of fleeing predators if it did escape to the outside, no disrespect to your beliefs and it is your decision but it should be a fully informed one, just so you know.
  23. I already have some of that chain in Josey's cage but I may have to fashion a perch out of it for she has a boing in the middle of her cage that I recently replaced as she chewed on the old one and is chewing on the new one also so it is destined for the trash, no more boings for her. She used to leave it alone and had the old one in her cage for years but now she has found it something to tear up and those chains would work nicely to hang by several of those hooks.
  24. This site has a good list of toxic plants and foods to avoid: http://www.avianweb.com/toxicfoods.html
