  1. He is definitely training you well, they do have a mind of their own and like to be in control of it most of the time but you are making great progress with him so keep up the good work.
  2. Our bird club has an annual bird fair every June, it has more toy vendors than birds but that is ok with me, I usually stock up on toys and such as they have good prices or deals and I get to see lots of birds too.
  3. I have to agree with the others and especially since she is a female, she is spending entirely too much time in that tent, I kind of like Val's idea of a perch that provides some sense of a protected space but I am sure you will figure out a way to provide that for her without giving her something she can make a nest out of.
  4. Golden ager! I remember when there was party lines.
  5. I see a couple of red feathers in that last bunch of pictures in this thread: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?193846-Introducing-Elegua!/page2 but I wait for some better ones when you get the chance. The red factor feathers may molt out or they may stay, you never know.
  6. Such beautiful birds, so sorry to hear they passed but they will forever be in your heart for the love you shared with them, may they fly freely over the rainbow bridge.
  7. I think I first seen this pic on facebook but it is so precious how those babies are wrapped in their mother's "arms" adorable overload.
  8. Elegua is a beautiful Tag and I know you are going to have so much fun with her, I do hope to see her in person sometime down the road, congrats on getting her home and what a sweetheart she is.
  9. I want to wish our Dave007 a Happy Birthday today, you may think he is 98 today but no he isn't that old, mature maybe but not old but he does hold wisdom beyond his years for he has been like the expert we all turn to for advice for everyday goings on with our greys and their behaviors. I don't think anyone else on greyforums knows as much about the grey as he does and he is willing to share what he knows with the rest of us. I know I have turned to him many times to ask for advice and he is always happy to oblige and sometimes with more than I wanted to know but he will always tell you the truth no matter how ugly it may be. We are all lucky here to have a resident expert like him, he is not a vet and he will be the first to state that fact but he has so much firsthand experience from the many years he has had pet greys and from breeding greys that prove to be very useful for us novices when we get into unfamiliar situations. I hope my good friend has a wonderful day today filled with love from his family and friends, Happy Birthday you old fart! Love ya too!
  10. I have seen your name come up as online but you didn't post anything but thanks for giving us an update on Eva and its great that she is doing just fine and you are right where you should be.
  11. Just take your cue from the vet and let us know how it goes.
  12. Greys are one of the quieter of the parrots so be grateful of that but as he settles in and gets a little older I think you will hear more out of him, sometimes you have to be careful of what you wish for.
  13. Suns are cute and so pretty, yours will change to more yellow and orange when they go thru their first major molt, so bright and colorful.
  14. If its whole wheat or whole grain it is better than white so if he loves it then by all means let him have it.
  15. I continue to subscribe to Bird Talk because I like to see the pictures plus they have listings of bird fairs, seminars and conventions around the USA but I have to agree that I do not much care for some of the content of the articles and like a lot of other magazines they are full of ads. Thanks Dave for mentioning Bird Times, I will certainly check it out.
  16. This statement says it all, you need to give these birds more time to settle into a new home after all its only been a day since you brought them home. I have one sun conure but if these two were raised together and have always shared a cage then you can keep them together but you might want to find out their sexes just in case. They may not bond with you since they are bonded to each other and may not interact with you as much because of it.
  17. Now the fun really begins, welcome home Ivan and to the rest of your life.
  18. You have Cricket spoiled rotten Ray and now you are coming out of retirement to work full time and Cricket doesn't like her daytime companion gone all day, you are gonna have to set aside some special time for her as soon as you get home, poor Cricket.
  19. I think he is trying to sharpen them up after they were trimmed off, they need fairly sharp talons to be able to climb and cling to things.
  20. Remember she is a 3 year old bird with a previous owner so she is unpacking her baggage now and more of her personality is showing thru, at that moment you handed her a treat she may just not have been in a mood to accept it, we have times ourselves we want to be left alone and if she gives you the cue then let her be and try again later. They like to have some control over what and when they will do things so just back off a bit when she gets that way and she may be more receptive at a later time. You have only had her a short time and it takes a while for her to settle in and feel comfortable so give her plenty of time and be patient with her as she adjusts.
  21. Hello Kaldi and welcome to our family and congrats on giving Willie a new forever home. He sounds like a real sweetheart and you are doing fine with him, you must have done your homework and I see great things in both of your futures as he settles into his home and your heart, can't wait to see some pics of Willie.
  22. I am guessing it is mating behavior, she sounds like she is all hot and bothered, I noticed her wings were slightly lowered and out from the body and she is panting, all sexual behavior. I noticed you did not touch her on her body, just the neck with scritches and then at the end she was going thru the motions for reguritation. I don't think she is in pain, you need to direct her to something else when she gets this way or you will only frustrate her and then she may bite you because you don't satisfy her. (blush) I am more interested in how she broke her leg Spence.
  23. Like Janet I live in Virginia and don't know about what may be available in your area but family or friends would be your best bet, maybe check any local bird clubs for members who may be interested in fostering your conure if needed.
  24. No not all greys are pluckers but yes they are prone to pluck under stress and some can be triggered by something simple and others it builds up to that, sometimes it is a physical problem and that has to be ruled out by a thorough checkup by an avian vet. My grey does not pluck and she is 5 years old but it could happen but I am not going to worry about it if it does, she is the same bird whether she is fully feathered or oven ready. I think a lot of the stress comes from our reaction to stressful situations, if we freak out over most difficulties then it affects our fids especially our greys for they are atuned to our emotions, if we handle things more calmly then they will stress out less. I like Ray's statement, "If you raise your grey like you would raise a child with lots of love and attention and toys the chance of getting a plucker is slim."
  25. Facebook is fun but highly addictive, good thing I can check it on my phone but its a good way to keep up with family and friends.
