Just a quick reminder since the season of severe weather is upon us...
judygram replied to pikachu's topic in The GREY Lounge
The news reports you all may not be out of danger yet as more storms are possible today so keep your tv or radio tuned so you will know like you did last night. -
I think you might want to wait for a bit to see if there is something about your baby's personality that might make a name come to mind, after all your baby is only one week old, also you might want to have the dna test done so you know what sex it will be.
-
The best advice I can give you is to go back to the breeder where you got this bird and let them finish the handfeeding process until the bird is weaned, an 8 week old bird is much too young to be with someone with no experience and so much can go wrong, please I implore you to do this right away as your baby's life depends on it.

I thought about you last night and wondered if any of the tornadoes came close to you, so glad to hear you all escaped the damage and being prepared made it a lot easier on you when you were scampering to safety, not so lucky for some though as I see lots of damage done in Kansas and neighboring states with at least 5 people dead. I'm glad to hear that Marco came thru the experience with flying colors, bet you kept your calm during all this and so did she. -
Sanggay you take such vibrant pictures and Cocoa is such a willing subject, I love how she has to turn a little sideways to sit on the window grille, thanks for sharing them with us.

Hello OtheG and welcome to our family, so glad you could finally introduce yourself for you might as well join in and contribute. Why don't you tell us more about yourself and Willow so we can get to know you better and pictures would be most welcomed.

That is exactly why I switched Josey to the Harrison's fine pellets as she wastes far less of them than the coarse and I add the red palm oil to her diet so she gets adequate nutrition.

Archimedes is having a "traumatic" weekend

I once did that too and Josey did not want to have anything to do with me when she saw those painted nails, they notice everything so one little change freaks them out, I just leave my nails bare now or just use a clear coat. -

Better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not be prepared, take care and I hope all goes well. -
I have seen some advertised lately that I have thought of getting, maybe it is the same ones you are talking about, I don't see what the harm could be if it only uses water to clean/sanitize. If you do get one be sure to let us know what you think of it.

Future Grey Owner and Newbie to the forum

Hello Jenni and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you are doing your research before you plunge in and get that grey. Yes many of our members have cats, dogs and many other types of animals and you certainly would have to supervise any time the cat is out where the bird is especially if the grey is out of the cage. You might want to close your cat off from the room your grey is in while no one is home just to be safe for even when the bird is in the cage the cat could come close and maybe get a foot bitten so safety is the first issue. You also have to be careful to keep the cat away for the bacteria in their mouths could potentially harm your grey and even the bacteria in our own mouths can make a bird sick so no open mouth contact. Please feel free to browse thru the forum for you will find lots of useful information and if you don't find what you are looking for just ask and we will help you in any way we can. -
Pet greys do not make breeders and vice versa so please do your research thoroughly before undertaking this direction, they do indeed need their privacy to breed and the less interaction from human caregivers the better. If you are leaning towards having a grey to interact with then maybe you should look into finding a reputable breeder or taking in a rescue that needs a new home, there are plenty of birds including greys out there that need new homes.

That was excellent but was it supposed to be silent?

Aw bless him, he feels better after a bath, glad it was a good experience for him, he is a cutie wet or dry.

Well them dirty sons of well you know what, this is what gives pet stores a bad name, needless to say they will not get your business any longer not even for bird food. If it was me I would march right back in there and give them a piece of my mind and to let them know you know what happened and everyone you meet you will tell them what they did and to take their business elsewhere. I hope you had not given them any money down but if so ask for it back, they owe you that at the very least. Some people just do not have a conscience I guess, somebody with the money ready takes preference over another and you had been in that store bonding with Nova many times. I feel so bad for you but at least you have found some good, you have a breeder that has a baby available so good luck with that and keep us informed.

Yes please do share your speech with us.

As long as the nuts are unsalted, I usually buy mine from the fresh produce section of the store, they seem fresher than the ones in the baking aisle and do try some in the shell, you might have to start it with one end cut off and make him work for his nut.
-
I think I might have to include some on the fact that there is still a market for wild caught greys, that they continue to be taken from the forests to sell to the public, damn shame it is.
-
It sounds like things are going very smoothly for you and Marco, she is adjusting to her new home in record time but then the babies adjust more quickly than an older bird. Go easy on the apple, some is good but not a lot of fruit should be given and not every day either.
-
Why not try the Harrison's High Potency fine pellets, I find that my grey eats them more readily and doesn't waste as much of them, smaller so she doesn't have to break them up as much to eat. Instead of offering frozen vegetables why not try more fresh offerings and later when you take that way replace it with some nuts, like almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and maybe a few sunflower seeds.

I have a tiel that dropped in on me a couple of summers ago but to be honest I have never seen her hold something with her foot but that doesn't mean she can't. They are adorable little birds, I had not been interested in them before but I got a quick lesson and mine has been a delight. She is not a loud bird and very inquisitive when she is out, flys about the room and seeks me out because she wants to be close to me. I can handle her very easily and she isn't scared to too much but sometimes when she is on me and my sun conure is too the sun will run her off but she doesn't go far. Tiels are capable of biting but mine doesn't do anything but peck at me, it just takes a little time for them to come to letting you handle them, just talk to him and be around him and he will want to be with the rest of you. I love to see mine when she goes on alert, that crest comes all the way up, very beautiful birds.

We used to have a deep fryer we used but no longer, deep fat fried food is not good for us old folks but we do visit KFC a couple of times a year because it is just so darn good, you have to be bad once in a while.

Josey has never used a sleep bed but my conure has and I put one in for my tiel but she never has been inside of it, nice to see other fids enjoy theirs.
