  1. Happy Birthday to Ray!!! Hope you are having a greyt day!!!!
  2. I agree.....just not worth the risk! Bird Safe only in my house...
  3. I don't watch videos like this either based on what you wrote. It kills me to watch any bird, animal, child or person suffer in any way shape or form. It's not that I live in the world with rose colored glasses on, it's just if I can't do anything to stop it, I am heartbroken, devastated and can't bear to see suffering....
  4. My amazon and both my greys were clipped as well. They never had the chance to learn to fly from day one. But my 10 year old son at the time, taught my amazon to fly. He would hold her as she was perched on his hand, and he would gently run towards the couch, a out 5 feet and say, "fly", she loved this. After a while, she would extend her wings out, then eventually after much practice, she would try to fly and she had the soft couch to land on. Then he would get all excited and praise her. She loved it! She became more and more confident and would try it on her own after some time. Now she flys all over the house yelling her little heart out!
  5. Yes, I agree that is why I would never go there at that time. Too much chaos and crazy ness.
  6. My birds go to the vet once a year for nail clipping. I would never do it myself, I am too afraid of cutting it too short since you cant see the dark nail and having it bleed. When that happens, there foot is sore for a couple of days and they hold it up mostly.
  7. Sorry, didn't post the photos as I was on my iPad. They look just like my Nilah....
  8. Thanks everyone. I read that so many zons scream, but it seems maybe they weren't loved as much as ours are LOVE the pizza guy story, want that on video!!!!
  9. It is a Get a Grip nets. I wish it was cotton, looks way better. I bought the size that was recommended for African greys. It was way too big, incredibly heavy, so I cut it in half and have 1 piece hanging in my living room. Nilah is the only one who likes it, the others still think its a monster out to get them even after 3 years......
  10. Thank you for clarifying that in black & white for everyone to understand!
  11. That is a wonderful update! You are an angel to him and he knows it! Hope you can smile and relax a bit, you a redoing the best you can and it is making a huge difference in his life, he knows it.
  12. Very cute! I have one of those for over 2 years....my amazon is the only one who will go near it! My greys say no way!!
  13. Oh my......I am sooooo sad and upset. Barnaby is in my prayers.....just remember, he can feel your love and for some reason, he was brought into your heart and you were brought into his for reasons we may never know. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
  14. When I say, "step up" I make sure they actually do step in an upwards directions. When I want them to get off of me, I try to have the step off in a downwards direction and say "step down". Once they get it, I just say step down anytime I want them to get off of me and they realize step down means get off, step up, means come to me. Hope that helps
  15. Thanks Heather, I have the same holes in one of my cages. Talon did the same one time as well. Luckily she only uses that cage for sleep and if she does play on it, it's when I'm in the room with her. Always good to warn others!
  16. Great suggestion. I have one of those and forgot about it. I will have to get it out and use it again since I have a sprained wrist.
  17. Did he actually bite you and draw blood? My amazon knibbles on my skin, sometimes trying to pick a freckle off ( I have many) She does nibbles, and sometimes it can get a bit uncomfortavle, I just distract her by moving her and looking her I the eye and having a sweet conversation with her to change her thinking so she will do something else.
  18. Ray,I LOVE the name of this thread!!!
  19. Welcome to our family! Love your intro. Can't wait to hear more and see pcs!
  20. I have to tell you this story. When I first got Talon (my tag) jaws in my kids playroom watching g tv with them. There was a glass do water on the windowsill. I gave Talon a drink, and she kept drinking like there was no tomorrow. I finally commented on it to my kids. That's when one of them said, "mom, that's sprite!" I freaked out and thought she was going to die! I know they can't burp and I thought the carbonation would kill her. She did spit someup. I called the vet, closed on the weekend....then joined a different bird forums had been lurking on for advice. All was well, but I never gave her more than a sip again as she quickly became an addict!
  21. My thoughts are with you. Please let us know how it goes. Whatever the news, we are here for you. Try not to worry, what's done is done, and I believe you will make things 100% better for this lucky bird, I am sure he already feels better with your tlc.
  22. Hee hee! That is one scary alarm!!!! Seriously tho, he's beautiful! Had german shepards growing up and they are great watch dogs.
  23. Hmm. My thoughts are: teach your baby to step up on the top of your fore arm. I recently sprained my wrist badly and am in a splint, they wouldn't step up on it, so I offered my other forearm to step up on, and they do fine as I carry them into the kitchen to step down onto their potty baskets. I also have cages that have a top down door, I unlatch it, they walk out on it and I have them step onto my shoulder. Hope this helps a bit. I also teach all my birds to "step down" so they will know when it's time to get off of me....
  24. ME TOO! Makes me glad I have an alarm system in my house that we always set!
  25. Nancy,do they sleep in cages, or is the room just a bird room for them? I ask, because I have my 3 in a room we don't use much, but we are not able to close it off completely for them.
