Hi victoria.. WELCOME to our family.. I wanted to tell you that we have a resident Quaker expert. Her name is Tari.. Why don't you stop in the "other birds" room and introduce yourself there too. Tari is a wealth of info on all sorts of birds and an expert on quakers.. :)

Hi Eve. So glad you joined us.. I think you are gonna love it here...

Hi Sampson.. Welcome to the site... Good to have you.. Now tell me.. That's 3 1/2 years right? You will have to give us more details... Your birds diet, life style, hours along, hours out of the cage, stuff like that if we are to help... and I know we can help..

Hi everyone. Here's another one of those announcements that I just love to make. Recently you saw our beloved Talon become Admin for our entire site. As most of you remember she was originally taking care of the African Grey and Training rooms.. Judygram took over responsibilities in the training room and that left the main African Grey Room without a "Go To" person. A room with over 12,000 posts surely needs a dedicated person to watch over it and help out all of our family members as their needs arise. One of the most important criteria in choosing a room moderator is how well that person can deal with the stresses of handling such a large room. I know first hand how tough Talon had it when she ran it. She worked for hours in that room and I think she really only was able to go over a few of the first pages of that room looking for threads that needed to be cleaned up and or deleted. So I know this is gonna be a very tough job for sure. So with all this in consideration I am happy to announce that Mark, aka dblhelix has been named room moderator for this important "main" room of our site.. I know Mark for quite some time and across a couple of different forums.. Mark won my respect a long time ago and I am personally very happy that he accepted my request to take on this assignment.. Please give Mark a warm congratulations for his new position as African Grey Room Moderator. And of course I get to go first as usual CONGRATULATIONS Mark. I know you will be a dedicated moderator to your fellow family members and to this site in general.. Good luck on this new assignment.. Please join me in congratulating Mark.. I know he will appreciate each and every one of your good wishes..

The cages are wonderful.. Either one would be find.. No problems there. Regarding you going to school and then to work... What amount of time will you actually be home? I really don't think you want to get ANY bird at this time if it means having that bird spend most of its' time locked up in a cage. So perhaps you can tell us more about when you will be spending time around this awesome creature. By The Way.. Welcome to the family.. CD

Yes Judy.. Just like that. You know, before we got Sonny we had Ceasar.. At that time Ceasar didn't know how to scream.. So he made way different sounds then he makes today.. Today there are certain times during the day when you would swear that I have 2 sun conures.. A small one and a very LARGE one. Ceasar now SCREAMS just like the Sun does.. So for Grey owners that are thinking about adding a Sun to the family.. Remember, Greys WILL pick up the sounds of the Sun.. For better and for worse..

I'm working on it guys.. In the past I have found that it takes a couple of days for them to even answer your email.. So far.. No answers.. Otherwise I would have posted it..

Ceasar Steps up.. and has for ever it seems.. Only recently has he actually started to say "step up" and this brings me to another point.. Many grey owners are frustrated as to the progress of their Greys talking.. Case in point.. It's taken MONTHS of constant STER UP with ceasar for him to actually say it.. So don't think that your bird isn't learning.. Sometimes it takes TIME.. Never give up.. In the end your bird will talk..

Sonny.. our Sun screams only in the morning really... but I wouldn't give him up for anything.. he is a darling.. He is so attached to my daughter Erica it's unbelievable to watch them together..

This is the best news this forum has had in a long long time.. In fact, the other good news was when another owner found his lost Grey too.. Hey guys.. Don't you think it's better NOT to let them get away... Don't learn a hard lesson like this please.. :(
-
See that.. 2 very good questions right off the bat.. We are still missing 8..
-
Excellent Judy... This could be important what that day comes.. We as a group should have some main questions that we need answered.. Of course, answers to these questions could spur new questions... but I think having a frame work is important..
-
OMG.. I am so so sorry to hear this.... We had a few members lose these birds like this and find them again.. DO NOT stop looking.. .. I feel terrible for you my friend.. :(
-
Thank you Judy.. and boy do your two birds look just like mine... :P

There ya go lidia.. Dan did the leg work for me.. No it's not my favorite treat but I do like them.. I am a Snickers with almonds kind of guy..
-
Excellent stuff Ian.. Thanks for contributing so much so soon in your membership here.. It's appreciate for sure..

Yeah well, Ceasar is just like his dad.. He loves candy.. Ceasar's favorite treats are Twizzlers. He will do just about anything for them.. In fact Twizzlers would be a great treat for Ceasar if I were gonna do any kind of serious training with him.. It's really funny watching Ceasar eating twizzlers. He doesn't drop one crumb.. He is so careful not to miss a single morsel. You can't believe just how neat of an eater an AG can be when he wants to be.. In fact, I would go so far as to say you can tell just how much a Greys likes what he is eating by the amount he or she allows to drop.. If you try twizzlers with your bird understand they will be pooping RED the next morning.. This scared the daylights our of me when I first saw it.. Also, you really only want to give your Grey about a 3 inch section of the twizzler.. You really don't want him to eat a whole one.. There ya have it.. CD

Hi Julie, Good luck with that Grey.. You've come to the right place.. I think what we tend to forget sometimes is Greys mostly only bite for one reason.. They are AFRAID.. Inside your birds cage it feels safe.. When you try to remove him the only place in this whole word he feels safe in is being violated. This is why he bites.. He is trying to defend his ONLY PLACE he can ever call HIS... So that being said.. How can you stop it? Well, you stop it by allowing the bird TIME to learn that YOU are no threat. How long does that take? It could take MONTHS.. But don't worry about it.. Understand where the biting comes from and you can feel better about it.. Ceasar is so well adjusted that I don't think he really considers his cage is only SAFE PLACE.. I can pretty much have him step up from inside his cage very easily.. In fact, wherever we go near Ceasar's cage he wants to come out of it.. He spends most of his day on his play tree in the kitchen. Very much near all the family activity.. This might be something you would want to try too.. If you can that is.. You might find it helpful if you got a table top play stand for you bird. Teach him that there are LOTS of safe places in your home.. In time.. and I do mean TIME.. You will see major changes to your birds personality. They don't want to live in fear as much as you don't want them to.. Good luck and we all look forward to reading about your new baby.. Don't forget to post lots and lots of photos... We love photos.. DayosMom wrote: Hi Kim, Thanks for telling such a personal story. Your past battle with cancer reminds me that there are no real problems in life except health problems. Everything else is so insignificant. Thank you for reminding me of this important fact of life.. Sometimes I think we tend to blow things out of proportion. Making the unimportant things in life seems so important. Stories of struggle like you told here should serve to remind everyone what the really important things are in life.. Health, family, love, happiness and compassion for others. Sometimes in this busy place called earth we tend to forget these things.. Thanks Kim... and BTW.. I love the Tattoos.. I never considered getting a Tattoo or Ceasar.. Thanks for making me think about that.. CD
