  1. I wanted a female grey and name her Sophia...Sophie for short. When we went to the breeder's house, Harrison picked us. The breeder said she was male...she could tell by the head/eye shape/size. So, we needed to find a boy name. I went to a baby name website and looked up my favorite names....one of them being Harrison. We took her to the vet the day after we got her and the vet suggested we use Harrison's pellets...when she said that, it settled it for us that we would call her (we thought she was a he at the time) Harrison. Pics from the day we brought her home
  2. Harrison weighs 445 grams. She's always been right around 450 grams. Her weight was the main reason we had her DNA sexed...she's always been on the small size but the breeder was so sure she was male. PPPFFFTTTT!!!!
  3. It really sounds like you're very mature for someone turning 15!!! Kudos to you for doing all this research and asking questions before buying...you're going to make a great Grey mommy.<br><br>Post edited by: HeatherStrella, at: 2007/07/14 23:49
  4. Wow, Judy, we posted at EXACTLY the same time. 23:23...weird
  5. There's another thing to consider. You're going into high school now...but in a few years, are you going to go away to college? And, if so, will you be able to take your bird with you?? If you were to get a Grey, many times they become one person birds. If you were to go away to college and you left your grey with your parents or something, it might stress your grey a lot. Just something to ponder.

  7. Yes, FairY, the fathers get the wristbands too. The babies and the mothers have alarms. If the baby gets too far from the mom, the alarm goes off. Also, if your baby gets too close to a different mom in the hospital the alarm goes off so you don't end up with the wrong baby.
  8. YAY!! Congratulations :woohoo: Heather and Little Miss Harrison

  11. I'm sitting here with Harrison and I just started wondering....can you breed a CAG with a TAG? I'm not interested in breeding Harrison...especially with a TAG, but I'm just curious if it can be done. Anyone know?
  12. As I posted in another thread, Harrison was DNA sexed and she's female...
  13. Talon, congrats to you!! Thank you for all you do for this board. It wouldn't be the same without you...
  14. Congrats to both of you!! You both contribute a lot to this board and I really appreciate you...
  15. I suppose if you saved enough of them, you could make an entire CAG/TAG. You could make a foam body/head and stick the feathers in the right places until you have it covered. It might be kinda creepy, though.
  16. That reminds me....when I'm ending a phone call I always say "alright, bye bye."...I really didn't realize I ALWAYS say that until Harrison started saying that in my voice...lol. It's amazing what you learn about yourself!!
  17. I throw mine away. Some people are making some good money off of them on eBay, though.
  18. I was searching for African Grey t-shirts on eBay when I found that people sell their AG feathers. They say that they are "naturally molted" feathers...I'm just wondering why on earth people would buy them?? Here's a link to just the feathers... http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=african+grey+feathers&category0= I did a search of African Grey Feathers...weird!! Do they bring good luck or something?
  19. I just have to share this... Yesterday I had a sneezing spell...it doesn't happen very often but when it does, I sneeze a lot. Well, after each sneeze, my husband said "bless you". This morning, Harrison made a sneezing sound and said a perfect "bless you"...she is constantly amazing me with what she says...unbelievable!! Now, if only I could get her to do it on command!!! Ha. She has also added these to her list: come out and play? pretty girl (something I don't understand)then she says the dog's name, Sandy... It's a good thing we don't curse!!
  20. ha...I congratulated her in another post...the "phrases" post, I think...oh well, congrats!!!
  21. I forgot to add that sometimes she'll talk in a really quiet, sweet voice. In the morning when I go in and get her up, I talk really soft and say things like "good morning, how are you?"...well, she's started talking the way I do in the mornings. You can only hear her if you're next to her...it's so soft. She has also started singing phrases...and singing things I don't understand. It's so cute. This morning she said for the first time "good girl"...YAY!! She also makes the sound of the microwave beeps, dog barking, dog scratching the slider, kissing noises, laughing, coughing, farting, and burping...of course she didn't get those last two from me!!! The way I've been keeping track of her phrases/words is, I put them in her online photo album...then when I want to post them somewhere, I just copy and paste. I just love this little grey parrot...I really can't imagine life without her.
  22. SHE says: I love you Hi/hello baby Whatcha doin? Cartoooons!! Hiya Hotlips OOOoooooohhhh!!! Hellllloooo??? Hello bird Harrison is a (very) pretty biiiiiirrrrrd Pretty cool It's OK Feed the geckos? You're a good boy. (lol) How's my baby? I'm sorry Hello Buddy How are you? Heather Where's Heather? I'm Sorry gootchie-gootchie goo Go On Ooops! Tell me about it, Stud. Stop it (talking to the dog) I don't know how to spell this last one...I think she got it from a cartoon...she says "eye eye eye eye eye"..over and over...and over Sometimes she'll combine phrases and say something like "feed the oops!"...or "Tell me gootchie stud"....stuff like that
