Feet washed as much as Pat could, she is such a brat to me. She chases me down and gives me this look that just is flat out scary!

I would just love to write a book, going to have to really think about that one. A series of children's books since the birds ARE kids. Tantrums, potty training. What to eat what not to eat and the best seller, how to get what you want every time! Lol

Pat came home from work sick yesterday. However he didn't give in to it until all the birds were out and I got home from work. I managed to make some chicken and dumplings for us and rice with some chicken for the birds. I also managed to get all the birds up for dinner, not as quickly as they would have liked, except for Ixta and Cotay. I finally gave up and went and got Pat to get them. lol What a spoiled mess those 2 are. Sonny took all the water bowls out of the cages for me in the macaws room, doors and all. I sure wish she would learn how to wash them out and fill them back up!

Oh and still waiting for the dirt for the slim moat we have going on with the 1000's of frogs and tadpoles. Been slowly draining it and can see the bottom again, just in time for 30% chance of rain this weekend! Yeah!! Because we do not have enough mosquitoes breeding either!

We never really know until bedtime, if all the cages are occupied, we got em all! We did miss poor Cotay one night and found her on the kitchen table hiding in her box when we were giving out the night time nut snack. She totally missed dinner but I don't think she minded at all.

Sometimes it is so hard and I feel like I am not doing a good job with these guys. It is just that when it rains, it pours. I was playing with Lily yesterday when I got home and had noticed some crud over her nose that morning. I thought she had maybe slung some food and it got stuck or something so I didn't pay too much attention to it. But while we played I noticed she was breathing weird, like her nose was plugged up. Couldn't see anything so we went about our play time. Oliver always sounds like that because he has damaged sinus cavities and we have fought this since the day he moved in so I guess it is a sound I am just use to. After I had put Lily back up I noticed Chulo had food all over his beak, since he is partially blind and has the scissor beak I figured he went to far into his water and that was just the outcome but as I looked harder, his nose is running really bad. It was running down his beak on both sides. I first thought, okay, his food bowl is pretty low and he had to go almost upside down to eat and I know when I turn my head upside down my nose plugs up so maybe that is it. I also then saw that Pat had put those nasty organic pellets from TOPS in his bowl and we had decided a while ago that they made almost all of birds sneeze so now I am blaming that for this nose congestion thing we have going on. What really sucks is that it is a holiday weekend and vet is closed so if anything should come of this, we are screwed. Being a grown up is not fun at all!!!

He isn't there. :-( they just refer you to the emergency clinic that will not give out any advice until "you bring them in". Needless to say, coming out this weekend will not be able to happen. Pat said we can try for the 17th. BTW, he is looking at mobile campers, lol. He is having issues finding one that is just right for 19 birds, 3 dogs and a cat though, he is such a goof!

So this bubble in my head just keeps getting bigger... Hubby cut the cable line over the weekend while he was making the moat safe for the dogs. Couldn't get it fixed until yesterday so no tv and no internet. Found a few things out while disconnected from the world.

#1- the stereo still works and we found the cd we had been looking for for the last 4 or 5 years.

#2- Vincent is a dancing fool! He loves music soft or metal and can dance to the rhythm.

#3- If you take your mobile phone off the wi-fy setting, you can get on the internet through your service provider. Too bad I found that out while at work yesterday. :-(

and after they got our lines back together.

My cell phone quit working one day a couple of months ago. I didn't bother getting it replaced for 1.5 months. The pressure from other people to get a phone finally sent me back into the store to get another one. It was an old phone and I pretty much hated it. I would love to say I really don't need one but these new Android phones are pretty dang neat. I just discovered the TV remote app on mine last night. WeChat, maps, woooohooo...>!!!!

What a wasted day yesterday. We had this great idea to bring Lily out to the kitchen area, cage and all, so she could be with us more and maybe get out of her cage. Big mistake, huge! lol Even though she didn't scream back in the room with the other Toos, she sure did in the kitchen wanting to go back there with them. Heart breaking. So we loaded her back up and put her back in there. Peace and the balance of nature is right again. On the bright side, we got to do a good cleaning under and behind the cages. :-)

  • 2 weeks later...

Wow, it has been a while since I have had a moment to update. What a busy few weeks we have had from cars breaking down to Pat changing careers. His last day at Home Depot is next Friday. Scared but thankful, I have not seen him this happy in a very long time.

Still at 16 birds for the moment and they are doing just great. Vincent is a booger and is a bit nippy when he chooses to be. One day he is just a cute lil cuddle bug, the next day he is Cujo and clothing and skin are his enemy. lol

Chulo needs to get back in and get his beak done again, that thing grows like a weed. For years these birds never had any vet visits and they had not to bad beaks (except Chulo) and their nails were dull and just a tad to long. They move in here, get more perches, wood to chew, paper to destroy and now their toe nails are sharp as needles and they beaks are weed like in growth. What is up with that? And my Bongo butt, he has fallen for Gabby and now I am his back burner and only loved when I am cooking his dinner. He use to hang out on my shoulder but now he will fly to my shoulder, get a piece of whatever I am cooking and fly right back off my shoulder to Gabby or to his cage to eat it. I am not use to him ignoring me! Cotay and I were doing pretty good getting along for a while but now she is back to hating me. She dives after me to bite if I walk past her, One day the stinker jumped on my back when I was near the table where she was and was biting me, she was on my back though and I couldn't reach her to get her off, very calculating!

Lily, Gus and Koko are still the same.

Bubba, Oliver, Honey and Sunny, Mary Ann and Marley are just sweethearts! Ixta is doing good too, she is exploring things now and both her and Cotay are getting a few feathers again.

Chacho, my poor boy, still hates Pat and I got a full blown attack one evening while I had him out playing and he spotted Pat. Ouch!!

Well that is my update for now, lol.

Going to learn how to feed babies today. lol No pressure, I could only potentially kill the poor thing or deform its beak but really, no pressure. I have not made a decision yet but there is a chance if I do okay feeding and pick this mothering thing up easily, this baby will be coming home with me. His birdie mama wasn't to nice to him or his sibling and my friend is in the process of moving so taking on another baby is just too much for her to handle, she will do it but if I can help her I will try. I say another and not these babies because mama killed one of them already and this poor guy is missing a foot (maybe just the toes it was hard to tell in the picture) and the tip of his wing. With my band of misfits she knew I could take care of him and give him a chance at a good life so she offered. This cutie bug doesn't even have his eyes open yet. I am going out there to spend the day and make a fair decision to this little baby, myself and my flock so I have to get my heart ready to hurt if it is too much for me to handle. My boss told me already I could bring him to work with me for the feedings, however, she said this before corporate called and said they wanted to do an office visit on Monday and then her mother got sick. We work from her house and her mom lives with them and she is 92. They called 911 Friday after I had left to get her to the hospital and even though she was talking gibberish and didn't know who anyone was, she knew who the paramedics were and REFUSED to go. Every bit of this happened yesterday so I don't know what the outcome of the day was yet. I feel a bit selfish thinking about bringing a baby bird to work with all of this going on in my bosses life right now. (she also lives with and cares for her 50 year old brother who is mentally challenged) Who knows what this day will bring, I will let you know tomorrow, I will also try and get a picture of the baby.

Meet Kane= Irish for Little Battler. Blue Throat Macaw @ 7 days old, whoops 8 days old now, it is the next day. Every hour and a half to two hours getting up and feeding, wow. Now I get why a lot of moms like breast feeding, they can just kick back and sleep through it ( I am guessing at that one, lol) He is just missing the 3rd joint of his wing and has some toes on one foot, but they are little stumps for the most part. Also had his tongue nicked but not bad and it will heal. At least he will have good balance, may not be able to fly but heck, that is okay with us. Pat is scared of him, doesn't surprise me though. In 30 years I have seen him hold just one baby. He is afraid he will break them. lol

On a side note, my bosses mom had a stroke. Bleeding in the frontal lobe which is where the jibberish talk was coming from. She was insisting on leaving the hospital so they had to restrain her. I feel so bad for her, she just wants to be at home.

In just 2 days he has gained 22 grams. That has got to hurt growing so fast. Hubby is taking daily pictures when I am feeding him so of course they are on his phone, amazing how much difference a day makes. The slits in his eyes are getting longer and more pronounced so within the week we should see some eyeball!

We had to do cage cleaning yesterday on every cage and Marley was such a help to me! Pat was able to clean all of the greys cages while I worked on hers. I was a little slower than him because every time I bend over to try and get to the back she would jump on my arm or back and she is a klutz so balancing her and cleaning do not go well together! lol
