I love following Felix on FB. I usually just zip right on past most stuff until I see one of his memes, then I have to stop and read and usually comment He's helping look for a Jardines parrot btw too.

Her little pictures pull at my heart strings. I saw in the other thread where you said she is blind in one eye and quite possibly the other. Such a sweet looking birdy.

I have not lost a Grey but I did lose a very loved Jardines parrot in September. She worked her way into our hearts and we spent a lot of round-the-clock time caring for her before she passed. I still go out and tend to her little tree my wife planted and go out and say goodnight most nights. I for one can definitely understand the feeling of loss you get when you lose one of these gifted creatures. At one point I thought I was just somewhat off in the head as I always seemed to have a lot of compassion for birds (even a pigeon of all things?!?) and have an overly hard time losing them. However the internets has provided proof for me that there are other nuts out there just like myself. I remember my wife telling our vet once "...I mean she is just a silly bird right?" we were sort of justifying the ungodly amount of money we spent trying to save our Jardines. Well, if she was just a silly bird, why are we still getting teary-eyed two months down the road? I consider them my feathery little children that will never grow up. This thread reminds me, I found a picture of the things my wife buried with our little girl...I'll have to update my thread. It's at the following link if you want to read it. Our sweet little Raven

Pics or it never happened!! HAAA

Wow. Neat pics. I can't imagine what it's like to have two Greys. I like the pic of the three conures. Trouble right there

Oh Greycie has her spooks. She's famous around here for throwing her hoomans to the spooks while she saves herself. Toby is the bane of Greycie's existence. She flys at him and loves to try and knock him off the tree. She's only been successful a couple of times. She will regret this. Caiques are the Jack Russells of the bird world. They are afraid of nothing. He has already started chasing her and taking pot shots at her red feathers. Whereas he gets along with the other smaller birds that have never been mean to him. Still trying to find a Jardines. Incredibly difficult bird to locate but won't quit till I have one for my wife.

Cute Radar!

Ok, I have a question about the lowering of the wings, panting, cooing. Is it sexual in nature even at near 1 year old? Greycie does this with me but it seems to be only when I'm sitting in my chair and she's running around above my head. She then jumps on and lowers her wings and starts doing her thing.

Dan, check to make sure his toes are pointed like so...if they are, give him a 10

I just saw some TAGs at the bird store yesterday. First time I've ever come across them. I can't believe how much smaller they are than the CAGs. Makes my Greycie-mae look like a Miss Piggy.

Always have the harness with you in your hand when you are messing with Pheonix. Pet them with it, play with it around them etc. Idea is to get them so used to it it becomes a non-event to them. After a while you can start slipping little loops of the harness (not necessarily the neck loop) around the head and they will get used to that as well. My Greycie hated the harness at first. It took me a long while to finally get her to where I could put her head through the loop. Cinching up around the wings etc was never really an issue once I got her head in. She still doesn't much care for the harness and will fly around the house to avoid me if she spots it but once I get her feather little butt in my paws she will go ahead and grumbly go through the motions to harness up. Quite a difference between her and our little Caique 'Toby'. He fought the harness with the Caique trademark bad temper tantrum on day 1 so I thought I was in for another long-haul birdy harness training. Day 2 he went right in like he had been doing it forever and actually likes being put in the harness. Weirdo.

That stuff always makes me sad. Our Greycie was a wee bit in the same boat. I specifically contacted the breeder inquiring about a cuddly Grey. Greycie was a do-her-own-thing bird which the breeder was trying to sell me on: "you don't want a velcro bird". Well, yeah, I did. She did finally sell me with the point that Greycie was always the first to do everything, wean, fly, explore etc... I figured that meant at least she was a smart bird if not a cuddler. Makes me happy your Gracie has found a good life, they all need that. They sure as hell didn't choose to be in this situation. Hoping someday I may get to meet her. I always love seeing other people's birdys. Their kids, not so much...haahaa

Can I teach my Grey to lay on his back or is this a long shot?
SRSeedBurners replied to tankaray's topic in Training
Cute video Dan - Greycie exhibits similar behaviors as Dayo. I guess they do that in the wild too. I see Jake in that video, didn't know you had another birdy. Is there a thread here about him? Love reading about other people's companions (or not) to our Greys. -
It's October 31st and you probably answered Halloween. WRONG...it's Graycie's BIRTHDAY!!!! Weird house here. I have a daughter who was born on Friday the 13th way back in 1994. She is very much into ghosts and everything about the paranormal and is just plain weird. Now I have a Greycie Grey who was hatched on Halloween. SPOOKY.. Nevermind the moron trying to sing. I should have let my wife and Greycie do all the singing:

Sometimes I think it would be nice to out these idiots now that breeders know better. Sounds like this guy is deliberately cutting corners with his baby Greys just to push them out the door as fast as possible.

First off - sorry about the length of the video. I made it while multi-tasking at work, so not a lot of time to 'cut the fat'. Plus I primarily made it for family that want to see Greycie and I know they would prefer a longer video. I also screwed up and pitched the originals so now I've lost the ability to edit any further....big dummy. Someone in another thread asked about getting a bird to lay on their backs. Greycie WAS NOT a bird who naturally wanted to lay on her back and let me play with her. However, she would hang from her tree/boing/ropes etc so I knew I had something to work with. One day she slid down the front of my shirt and just hung there. I knew that was my chance. I cupped her, and got her to release her talons, then I did the naughty-naughty, I rolled her red tail over and there she was laying in my hand. My thumb got bit good! REAL good!!!! And I didn't learn my lesson either because I kept at it daily. This is the end result. She now LOVES LOVES LOVES to play on her back with me. She will even fly onto the back of my chair and nip at my ear trying to get my hand. Once she gets my hand she will pull it over on top of her and I help flip her, then the wrestling starts. Sometimes she will still get nippy if something happens that scares her while we're birdy wrestling. All of this video is taken on top of the fridge...her absolute favorite place to play and watch what's happening in her kitchen.

There are bird people and there are other people. Sounds like you guys know what you're doing and Bailey has surely picked up on that. I'll repeat this story here: I took our Greycie to one of my daughters races and lots of people were interested in having a look at Greycie and most wanted to touch her but of course most showed fear that even I could pick up on. You can bet Greycie was picking up on it AND using it to her advantage to keep them away. One of my daughters friends, Sherry (who is my age), came up and asked if she could hold Greycie. I asked if she just want to pet her first. She said "oh birds love me - watch". She commenced to boldly tell Greycie to step-up and shoved her finger right onto her breast bone. Greycie stepped right up without a growl as if she had known Sherry her whole life. I laugh about it and tell people, yeah 'Sherry' could have told even me to step-up and I would have....she was that confident with Greycie.

Now I have to get in on this Grey hat pic thread. These are pics of my bosses bird 'Seawee'. He's Chinese so I don't know if that name has any meaning but I think it's a cute name for a baby Grey. He's not a member here and he just happened to show me these pics on his phone yesterday. I immediately thought of this thread and asked him to send them to me.

If your bird will already let you lay him down on his back and support him, he's well on his way to living life as a bat Our Grey did the same as yours, hanging and playing so it was a natural progression to her learning to trust me playing with her upside down. She was very growly and not-so-sure about it at first and still reverts back slightly when she gets a little spooked. She's now one of those birds that will grab my hand and pull it over on top of her while she flips and then wants to wrestle. She also has developed a thing for what I call bouncing the baby. She loves to lay on her back in my hand completely unsupported while I bounce her and let her get that feeling of weightlessness on the way back down. She always lets out little happy sounds when we play like that. Another of her favorites is playing birdy hockey on top of the fridge. We have a round yogurt cap that I try to shoot between her legs. She'll go after it and once she has it will flip upside down and play with it. I'll have to post the video sometime. Just keep doing it and your bird will eventually learn to trust you and you can start doing more and more. -
Where did you find it for $19? That was close to the original price before Amazon prices changed.

I had that exact avian bulb in my cart until the price went up and then non-eligible for free shipping. I also decide the best mobile mount would be a clamp light.

Can no longer keep my African Grey
SRSeedBurners replied to Eleanor Oates's topic in Rescue Bird Haven
Forget you he won't. I've posted here about my CAG that I got when I was 19. I lost her to a divorce when I was 24 and she ended up with an aunt. I saw her again for the first time after 20+ years and she fell right back into a role we used to do together that my aunt had never witnessed the whole time she's had her. However my aunt is taking very good care of her and she doesn't "need" me until my aunt can no longer care for her...and back she will come. -
Experimented with a recipe tonight using a cornbread mix and some Ninja blended veggies, baby food and some nuts. Turned out somewhat wet even though though the edges were getting crispy. Need to find a way to dry the mix up a bit. Greycie inhales it as it is but would like to make it a bit drier.
