  1. Love that falsetto ending there. Someone has been practicing.
  2. Our conure wiggles his tongue and he's about to take a chunk out of you. Greycie only does it perched on the shower rod after I touch her beak with my wet finger, like she's licking the water off the sides of her beak.
  3. We have a similar routine. Every now and then I break with protocol and try and shortcut. Greycie lets me know she's not happy. Cute pic!
  4. This is a first - I've never seen these birds getting along so nicely. They must be thankful or something
  5. That's the size we have. It's only suitable for a timeout cage or a feeding cage which is what we use it for. I also put Greycie in it with me in the garage when I'm on my trainer, she'll settle onto the swing I have in there and start making happy noises. I guess it would work for a sleeping cage which is what you mentioned.
  6. We have the second cage and I highly recommend it. Our Greycie goes crazy in it as it's too small as an everyday cage. We use it for the Caique and our Jardines we used to have. It's very well built. I found it for substantially less than the price you show though. If I find the link, I'll post it.
  7. I only use FB to keep tabs on real friends (I think I have 1) and psuedo-friends(the other ~120). One is a real drama queen that I haven't figured out why I haven't hit the unfriend feature yet. I have hidden most of his posts though. Among my psuedo-friends I can name: - Einstein the Texas Talking parrot - Felix Hawk King of Everything Birds fame - Disco the Parakeet - Grumpy Cat - NASA Curiosity Mars Rover - The Chicken Whisperer - For the Love of Chicken - Kookaburra Bird Shop Then old high school acquaintances and family make up the rest of it. FB is mostly entertainment from that list of psuedofriends. I love the birdy ones.
  8. Anyone know who the beautiful Grey that adorns the homepage and the banner is? Know the story behind him? (looks like a male anyway...)
  9. I just saw on Einstein's FB feed that his parront's are posting a solid hour of him talking non-stop. I've always wanted to put him on a loop, Greycie gets totally absorbed watching him. Hoping she'll pick some of his words up. He's a cutie.
  10. Inara - let me help a little: He's sweet, he has an Elvis haircut and he loves his little cheekys scritched.
  11. No sleep hut here. Greycie likes to sleep on her pvc swing I built. The breeder told us she likes to sleep on her swing so I made her one and she loves it.
  12. Our birdy floors are going in currently. Tile in the kitchen, dining, front entry room (whatever that's called) and laundry. Distressed hardwood in the living room and hallways. My wife wouldn't let me set the carpet on fire before they removed it - probably a smart move. The house is 32 years old and it was the original carpet and counters so you can imagine what it was like. Lookup 'Butcher block Formica' - that's the crap countertop we've been living with for 13 years and some nasty linoleum floor along with dingy dirty smelling carpet. Our place was embarrassing to bring anyone over. Yesterday we ran into a snag that has stopped the hardwood installation until we can get a foundation company out. So now we have a concrete living room and hallway. I love it. Anything but that nasty carpet. Would love to hear what you all use to keep tile and hardwood floors clean. Muse - do you have a 'professional grade steam cleaner' picked out? I want one too but no idea about brands at that level.
  13. Dad to a 19 year old - with a cat: Use a crate. We crate our two mutts, not because we feel they're a danger to the birds, but because they won't stop wrestling in the house. Our cat is not allowed to roam free with the birds unsupervised. In my house - the birds are #1 priority and everyone knows it. If they don't like it, wife: I'll move out and take my birds with me; daughter: if she doesn't like it, she can get out.
  14. Looks exactly like Greycie's and Tobie's when they get watery foods. Color is good. Try giving a pickled beet if you want a real fright Looks like bloody poop. We've scared the heck out of ourselves a couple of times when we've done this.
  15. Where were you when I was a teenager? Pay me to play with a bird, I'd feel like I was stealing your money!
  16. Sorry Nancy, didn't mean to insinuate that was my Greycie laying on the piano. I found that video because I follow Einsteins feed. Greycie likes to wrestle on her back but I highly doubt she will lay there calmly like that for that long. I have a piano I'll have to try. However I can't play it We'll have to pretend.
  17. That's not what it looks like to me. He's getting ready to pen his memoir. Just ask Dayo about this.
  18. Goes right along with the book I'm reading: "A Short History of the World" - J.M. Roberts
  19. If you have a young Grey, it helps to have another bird around to show them the ropes. Greycie didn't take her first bath until Toby the Caique showed up and went right to work bathing. Took her a couple of observations before she was fully engulfed and making a mess of my countertops. It's cute watching her learn from the other birds. The others do things instinctually (as does she) but she will also observer them and pick up thier noises and behaviors.
  20. Hard to watch, couldn't finish it. To close to home. Reminds me of the last six months with Raven only she never got better just gradually worse. I agree with BaileysPapa about special needs birds. You really develop a deep bond that is hard to lose.
  21. Ok, with that new information - I'd still want to see the bird at the breeders location if you have doubts. Plus he's not weaned, that's something I avoided. We've had hell with two of our birds getting the paperwork. Once people get their money, they couldn't give a damn about following up on their promises. I'm still harassing the breeder of our Caique that I want his paperwork along with his DNA papers. It's been a month now and she won't send them. He's not banded. He's a really great little bird and I don't regret buying him one bit, I just really want to know when his birthday is - that's it. Oh and I really want to know that I didn't just give them free money so they could 'tell' me he's a boy. We showed up in a parking lot and purchased him off of Craigslist. So yeah, we took our chances there. Our other bird, we never got paperwork even though I begged for 3 months. Fortunately we had written 6 pre-dated checks. The last two got stopped and they never heard back from us even though they demanded the checks. Karma witches! Our Grey baby came with her paperwork but she came from a very well known and well respected breeder. What I got from it is - bird breeding is still a backyard-home business so don't expect all the proper business etiquette.
  22. Reminds of how Greycie acts sometimes. We'll be sharing my food (she doesn't like to share hers) and she starts picking and tossing as if to say: "nope, this is no good <toss>. This blows <toss>. There's better here <toss>. oh....what's this!" And her pupils start that pinning.
  23. They do it themselves best. The key to a good soaking as Greycie taught us is to relax....and puff up! Haahaaa. I noticed the same thing. Greycie can come out of a forced shower and I feel like she didn't get a good soaking. When she does it herself she comes out like a rag doll. Even the top of her head which I can never get soaked comes out spiked when she does it herself.
