  1. I haven't ordered mine yet. Talon, was it the bulb or the stand that was the problem? 'AvianSun Deluxe Floor Lamp' seems to come in two different flavors. Flavor 1 (updated version?): Flavor 2 (older model? has pretty crappy reviews): Can you provide links to what you are using?
  2. Here's another option from sproutpeople.org. They have different mixes for different birds. I have the sprouter they use in that kit and it's amazingly easy to use. I think I'd prefer it over jars, although I've never used jars. Bird sprouting kit
  3. Wow, my head is spinning just reading this. So sorry for your loss - I know how bad it hurts and will hurt for a long time. I just can't believe it myself.
  4. I never thought about this. Is this just from crappy urban air? What type of air cleaners you use Talon?
  5. Love how they respond to certain stimulus. She's lifting her foot like Greycie does when she wants more! I'll have to play that one for Greycie and Toby-the-Caique. Toby will like just because of the whistling in the song. That's all he can do - poor guy.
  6. That's exactly why we're moving to non-floor standing gyms. The only drawback is you have to have a hook in the ceiling wherever you want to have the gym. Moving a hanging gym is much easier than our homemade floor model. The floor underneath a hanging gym can have a flat blanket or whatever instead of some wrapped mess. It can all disappear in a matter of seconds too unlike the floor gym. As for real estate, they make a version for Umbrella Cockatoos and Macaws that is fairly large. Our floor standing gym is huge and they don't use 3/4 of it. Our two birds fight over the top-most perch and they seem to spend 90% of their time around that perch. Here's my thread inquiring about hanging gyms when I first started looking. Check out Shanlung's response and links. His stuff is always interesting. I'm planning to make a couple of versions like his for foraging opportunities in their bird room (my wife doesn't want eyesores in her living room so I have to get a nice purchased one for that space). The clay pots mimic what they forage on in the wild. Pretty interesting stuff that guy blogs about. Worth reading his stuff but there's lots of it. I've been researching hanging gyms for a while and those are the best I've come up with off-the-shelf. Keep us updated on what you find, you might find something a lot better than what I found.
  7. Now why didn't I think of that user name? Welcome to the Grey forums. Have you considered a hanging play gym? We're ditching our floor standing gym in favor of a hanging gym. They already have cages that they use as gyms - in and out and all over. Might be something to consider. We ordered ours from Parrot Play World
  8. That's awesome. I wish I had a job concocting pranks like that. Beer required.
  9. See my thread about the same issue here. I see I never updated the thread: We had over 3/4 of our house redone with tile and wood flooring which required the adhesive shown in that thread. Several square yards of linoleum removed creating lots of dust. They also busted out some counter tops and lots of paint and sanding. We also had to halt work and get the foundation company in and they busted three new holes in our foundation which resulted in dust every damn where from the jack hammers. I ended up keeping them in the birdroom for a solid week, one of two rooms that weren't affected, with a towel across the bottom of the door to keep any fumes and dust at bay. I stayed in there with them for a lot of that time just to make sure no smell was getting in. They were absolutely fine.
  10. Talon takes cute pictures. Between this one and the one of her in the box - too cute.
  11. I want one to spy on my wife now. This thing has all kinds of uses.
  12. The Foscam with zoom is $190 (msrp $250). Non-zoom model was $104 (msrp $150). I splurged and glad I did. We were wondering if the zoom feature would be a waste - it wasn't.
  13. I went with Foscam to get the zoom feature. With a 70-degree field of view (similar of 66 in the DLink model) sometimes I cannot find my Caique unless I zoom in. This is on my HTC phone mind you where the resolution is pretty crappy. I can see him without zoom on a PC but I bought this for use with my phone. The D-Link with zoom starts at $900+ (there goes Greycie's college fund). Just for gits and shiggles, I checked D-Links support forum. There's no shortage of Do's and Don'ts and I can't connects, and just general whining about stuff not working. It goes with the territory - technology.
  14. Timbersmom or anyone else - any recommendations for a WAN client? Foscam definitely does not have their sh*t together with the software on this device. - The chrome extension they publish is causing extension crashing issues on Windows7 boxes with the latest Google Chrome browser. - Their IP camera client 'Super Client' is providing an intermittent still but no live video stream (I'm hooked up to the router directly - no wireless - not yet). - IE requires you run in compatibility mode and I still can't get a feed on that. Any ideas on another client to try? It's kind of silly, once I leave my LAN, all I can get to the camera with is my smart phone and the free app they provide.
  15. Lots of playing with her on her back. That's actually nothing compared to what I can do with her. She will lay in my hand while I bounce her, even getting air and landing back in my hand. She seems to love it when I do that because she will do her "I'm excited" noises. She will also pull my hand over on her and want to wrestle. She didn't start out this way, I just kept doing it and getting bit until she finally decided it's fun!
  16. Finally got my camera setup. Bought the Foscam FI9826W. Not sure how anyone who is not tech minded would ever get through the configuration on one of these. I guess they have really good tech support. Took me a while beating on my router and the camera to get them to work together. Finally have it up and running in the bird room. Found out Greycie is not as innocent as we believe she is. Within the first hour I caught her walking around on the floor and poking her head under the closet door to see what was in there. She tried pulling on the door but it would open. Then she went under my desk - previously I thought she never went near my desk as I keep it covered with a blanket. Now I know she's into every thing when I'm not looking. She actually keeps checking the entrance door, I'm guessing to see if she's going to get caught because she's definitely doing stuff I never see her do when I'm present.
  17. I'm assuming your avatar is a pic of you and your birdy. I took the Aviator harness and hung it over my ear periodically until she finally started ignoring it. At first she was scared of it and there was no way to get it near her without a fight. Then I started touching her with it, offering treats if she would accept them through a loop in the harness (neck hole). I've always had her where I can get my hands under her wings so I didn't have to work on that much. Once you get the bird used to the harness in close proximity you should have no problems from there using treats.
  18. The worst part is, tonight she weighed in at 462 - OINK!!!
  19. Greycie likes to hang off the cabinets doors and 'knock' with her beak. Sometimes she'll knock on something while standing on it, like the counter top etc. I figure it's attention seeking when she does it.
  20. cute pic peeking through the sleeping hut
  21. The head twitch is perfectly normal. Mine does it when she's listening intently to something I'm doing. She will also do it when she listens to Einstein videos on youtube and I know she likes those because she will come from anywhere she is in the room to get a closer seat. Then commences the head twitch. I've always wondered why they do it and have seem many birds on youtube doing the same - all of them intently listening. Welcome to the forums. Post a pic of your birdy sometime if you get a chance.
  22. POIs are special. We're still looking for another sweety Jardines. I accidentally came across a video of me feeding our Raven yesterday. Still very hard to watch.
  23. For me it's a comfort that they like to get stuck in their ruts. Sometimes I get a little depressed that all these birds have to do is get up and go through the exact same routine everyday: poop, eat, morning screechy time/pterrordactyl practice, preen, play with toys, preen, eat, afternoon ciesta, eat, evening screechy and the fight against going to bed. They love it all except that last part. Once they get stuck in their familiar little rut they kind of want it to keep going that way. Greycie doesn't like bike rides, car rides, going places etc. Toby loves car rides but the Grey's seem to like the status quo.
