Timbersmom or anyone else - any recommendations for a WAN client? Foscam definitely does not have their sh*t together with the software on this device. - The chrome extension they publish is causing extension crashing issues on Windows7 boxes with the latest Google Chrome browser. - Their IP camera client 'Super Client' is providing an intermittent still but no live video stream (I'm hooked up to the router directly - no wireless - not yet). - IE requires you run in compatibility mode and I still can't get a feed on that. Any ideas on another client to try? It's kind of silly, once I leave my LAN, all I can get to the camera with is my smart phone and the free app they provide.

Lots of playing with her on her back. That's actually nothing compared to what I can do with her. She will lay in my hand while I bounce her, even getting air and landing back in my hand. She seems to love it when I do that because she will do her "I'm excited" noises. She will also pull my hand over on her and want to wrestle. She didn't start out this way, I just kept doing it and getting bit until she finally decided it's fun!

Finally got my camera setup. Bought the Foscam FI9826W. Not sure how anyone who is not tech minded would ever get through the configuration on one of these. I guess they have really good tech support. Took me a while beating on my router and the camera to get them to work together. Finally have it up and running in the bird room. Found out Greycie is not as innocent as we believe she is. Within the first hour I caught her walking around on the floor and poking her head under the closet door to see what was in there. She tried pulling on the door but it would open. Then she went under my desk - previously I thought she never went near my desk as I keep it covered with a blanket. Now I know she's into every thing when I'm not looking. She actually keeps checking the entrance door, I'm guessing to see if she's going to get caught because she's definitely doing stuff I never see her do when I'm present.

I'm assuming your avatar is a pic of you and your birdy. I took the Aviator harness and hung it over my ear periodically until she finally started ignoring it. At first she was scared of it and there was no way to get it near her without a fight. Then I started touching her with it, offering treats if she would accept them through a loop in the harness (neck hole). I've always had her where I can get my hands under her wings so I didn't have to work on that much. Once you get the bird used to the harness in close proximity you should have no problems from there using treats.

The worst part is, tonight she weighed in at 462 - OINK!!!

Greycie likes to hang off the cabinets doors and 'knock' with her beak. Sometimes she'll knock on something while standing on it, like the counter top etc. I figure it's attention seeking when she does it.

The head twitch is perfectly normal. Mine does it when she's listening intently to something I'm doing. She will also do it when she listens to Einstein videos on youtube and I know she likes those because she will come from anywhere she is in the room to get a closer seat. Then commences the head twitch. I've always wondered why they do it and have seem many birds on youtube doing the same - all of them intently listening. Welcome to the forums. Post a pic of your birdy sometime if you get a chance.

POIs are special. We're still looking for another sweety Jardines. I accidentally came across a video of me feeding our Raven yesterday. Still very hard to watch.

For me it's a comfort that they like to get stuck in their ruts. Sometimes I get a little depressed that all these birds have to do is get up and go through the exact same routine everyday: poop, eat, morning screechy time/pterrordactyl practice, preen, play with toys, preen, eat, afternoon ciesta, eat, evening screechy and the fight against going to bed. They love it all except that last part. Once they get stuck in their familiar little rut they kind of want it to keep going that way. Greycie doesn't like bike rides, car rides, going places etc. Toby loves car rides but the Grey's seem to like the status quo.

Sounds like very similar behviour as when our Greycie gets mad. She gets nippy and obnoxious and strikes at things and plays angrily with her rope toys. My guess is Gracie is pissed about not being at home. We're dealing with a situation right now where apparently Toby did something to Greycie and she's been a real pain in the tail for the last two days. She's bent on making him pay and is just generally in a pissy mood.

Based on the context, I'm guessing she considers it cruel on his mother to send him back to her.

At what age does the first molt take place?
SRSeedBurners replied to tankaray's topic in Health Room
Greycie started around 8 months and there were feathers all over the place. She was constantly playing with them in her beak as she would be preening and they would come out. Startled us at first but within a few weeks it stopped. She even lost several of her tail feathers which have since grown back in. She's 14 months now. -
Have you checked for shredded applications at the bottom of Misty's cage?

If anyone can help, I saw this posted on the African Grey FB page: I read this and couldn't stop laughing. Rehoming her husband vs. the Grey. Classic!

What do you all think of this stuff as a treat? We accidentally found it somewhere. Greycie got hold of one and tried inhaling it like she does with all things that she really really likes and can't eat fast enough. I just happened to look at the ingredients list and noticed how clean it was. Pretty good list for a processed food. We only give it as a treat. Kashi Heart to Heart toasted oat cereal.

Jake and I are really pleased to meet you all!
SRSeedBurners replied to Quirky's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello to you and Jake. Jake is a cutie and I like that idea with the straws and a simple zip tie. I guess you found that idea here - somehow I missed that one. You can keep right on writing for all I care, you use paragraphs and your story is very interesting. Love to read more. You're probably like me and wondering why you waited so long. I waited nearly 20 years after losing my first flock in a divorce and really regret it. The nag would never go away. I was born to be ruled over by a Grey -
Murfchck - the link leads me to a photobucket login but no pic. Can you send me the pic you were referring to? I haven't purchased the hanging gym I linked yet but would like to see your idea first. Thx! I like Dans option too.

The only picture I could take is the corner of our living room. I'm specifically looking to see if anyone has used these hanging gyms and if they are any good. They're kind of pricey so I don't want to blow a load of cash on garbage perches. I'll take pics of the bird room when it's done but right now it's a complete disaster with most stuff shifted to the middle of the room so the painter can finish the base boards.

When we first got the birds, we made our own playstand on a wood platform with four plastic casters etc. We recently got brand spanking new wood floors including where the bird area is in our living room. Wife is kind of fed up with the tree stand so I came across these hanging gyms. The idea is to put two stainless eye bolts into the ceiling causing very minimal damage and hang two of these where our current bird stand is. We have a canvas floor covering we've been using that will continue to use underneath. I think I sold her on these as I can unclip them, remove the canvas and the whole setup is GONE within minutes leaving nothing but beautiful wood floors - unlike the playstand which has to be uncovered from a myriad of crisscrossed towels, the canvas, and then maneuvered out of the living area, then remove the plastic floor protectors it's sitting on - PITA!! They claim these are easy to clean and poop doesn't stick like on wood due to the material. My question is - does anyone here use these? Are they as good as touted online? Today the painter is putting finishing touches on the bird room. I will have two eye bolts in the roof in the bird room for these hanging gyms to be moved to when not in the living area. I think this is a pretty cool idea. Any thoughts?

Scam. Reads exactly like some scam ads I've seen in the past.

They do create quite a flap. We call Greycie the flying piggy!
-
Depends on how much meat you want flying through the air in your living room. I don't know why I find that funny. We chose 460 grams of flying Grey chicken.

So far no diagnosis. They took blood and are waiting on results. The vet started her on an antibiotic and something else to relieve itchiness. He says the bird seems better. The vet said nothing appeared unusual with the preening gland. I sent him the info on Aloe Vera in one of the stickies so he said he'd go by last night and get some of that to start misting her with. I'm still waiting to see what comes back too. Never met the birdy but hoping for the best.
