Dan I believe you were right. I had some painting to do in the bathroom this afternoon and Jellybean went nuts in his cage. He could not see me. People were in and out, just crazy. I could not let him be part of that. This morning I had him out and one of the workers left my front door open. I completely flipped! The workers left, I cleaned paint brushes, started to feed my animals and everything returned back to normal. He is now perched on top of his cage and seems quiet happy. I can see how he would be distressed, not knowing what is going on. My dogs feel it too, but they are easier pleased. Thanks for helping out guys!

Do CAGs wake up 'on the wrong side of the bed' like we do?
DanielaWelborn replied to Carolina's topic in Training
Yes, yes and yes! Wake up in a mood, on the wrong side of the perch. absolutely . Important to know what Jeff said above: pick your battles. Two steps forward and one step back! -
Usually I am very predictable person, which I thought made me a good parrot parent. However, our lives have been turned upside down; I am having my master bath remodeled and workers have been in the house for seven straight days now. I am reluctant to have Jellybean out with people constantly coming and going. In addition, my husband and I have been staying up a lot later than usual, which resulted in everybody getting a lot less sleep. He is deploying in two weeks and we are trying to spend as much time together as possible. Jellybean was almost unbearable yesterday. Calling out all day long. If I let him out of his cage he would fly to my fish tank and try to wreck havoc on it. Somehow he turns down the heater and my fish do not like it! If I put him back in his cage he calls out again, round and round we go. I made it a point and retired at 8 p.m. last night, which resulted in Jellybean getting much more needed sleep. The day started out with more calling. I ignored it and then let him out when he was quiet. As a reward. The fish tank is still in the running, but he is now whistling and making some other noises. I also noticed that he will not eat as much during the day if I leave him out all day long. So on occasion I close the cage and he will eat, then I open the door again. I just don't want him to think that every time he get's into the cage the door is being closed. So for now, with much needed sleep and food, my bird is perched on top of his cage and whistling away:) For now.....

There is a way to harvest the seeds. Best to google it. However, it is very messy and my Grey eating it is very messy too. I love them, but I am not sure it is worth the effort;)

I agree, having one is like having three dogs...or one small child. Either way, he keeps me plenty busy. Not another one for me any time soon.

The Bud Light....yeah, we have a friend that goes through a lot of boxes. He keeps them for us. Jellybean will chew through one in a day. It is a great way to keep him happy. I am a wine person and the husband prefers Micro brews:) Cheers!

I agree, that is why he can only join me on special occasions.

So sorry to hear. I know what you mean, but it always breaks my heart to see one of our beloved pets depart. It is never easy.

Lol, right? He took it from the counter and flew to his perch. He will steal anything plastic, including empty water bottles. I am relieved, thanks:)

Nice, would have loved to hear the interaction however. Thanks for posting!

wondering if it is safe. It takes Jellybean hours to chew this up. I always make sure I see him dropping the plastic. However, there is some doubt. Safe or not?

I am wondering if there has been some change in your household? You have had him for over 6 years. I am thinking somtehing must have changed to set him off.

I totally agree, I , myself, do not take any vitamins, but rather drink my "shake" in the morning for breakfast. That is usually the first time Jellybean is getting breakfast; veggies, fruits, legumes. I also feed him nutria-berries with nuts, a tiny bit of sunflower seeds and some dried unsweetened fruits. I have ordered the red palm oil and am waiting for it to arrive. I think I might use it for Jellybean and myself in my morning shake. I have purchased pellets, but Jellybean does not touch them. I try things that are good for him and at times he will take it and at others just throw it out. Hit and miss with these guys:)

I was scared at first and then I noticed the harness....

Jellybean loves to mess with my dog bowls, dishes etc. Anything that clings, clangs and bangs. I have metal measuring spoons that keep him busy for about 12 seconds:)
-
Jellybean loves to tear up a solo cup or two. I always wondered if he might not eat some by accident. Therefore I switched to big Budweiser beer boxes. Cardboard and hours of fun. One will last about a day. Luckily we have friends that like to drink beer.....

I was able to get it at Amazon. Dave posted a link and it was still good. Mine shipped already.

trying to establish a new normal
DanielaWelborn replied to DanielaWelborn's topic in The GREY Lounge
To make it clear: I am not putting my hand inside his cage. I am respecting his area. Don't even know where and why this came up? Be gentle is outside the cage and he has bitten me very hard in the past. That would be why. This thread is going wrong somewhere..... -
trying to establish a new normal
DanielaWelborn replied to DanielaWelborn's topic in The GREY Lounge
Usually I let him come out of his cage and he then flies to where I am at, if I am not on my desk. Good advise on the step up, thank you. I just step back a bit and let him set the pace again. That has worked best for me. As for the touching, I didn't mean to harass him by any means and I should be happy with the progress all in all. For some reason just tried yesterday and stopped immediately because he did not appreciate it at all. Thanks again. -
trying to establish a new normal
DanielaWelborn replied to DanielaWelborn's topic in The GREY Lounge
He is 4 years old and I am the third owner. The last owner was an active duty soldier, trying to establish a relationship with the bird but couldn't, because of his time away. The last owners wife, a very nice lady, tried to make up for it. The reason I picked up Jellybean is because they had two children and are now expecting two more (twins). It was a space issue for them. They had an add on Craigslist and I did some research and wanted to adopt a bird, as oppose to get a baby. So, here we are... and I knew what I got into...that is why his trusting me just this little bit is so important. I will be his forever home...like it or not:) I took the attitude of letting the bird set the pace and it has worked for me. I feel we are making progress... So, here we are... three month and I am in love with this bird. Thank you for asking -
