  1. Great progress! So happy for you.
  2. Thank you for listening. I am so excited this evening because Jelly bean just beaked my whole hand very gently for the first time! I am so in LOVE. Well, he kind of did it last night, but I had to make sure.
  3. Welcome to you and Chico. I am a fairly new owner myself and also got my CAG off of Craigslist. Maybe not the best decision I have made, but here we are. Get ready for a heck of a ride:)
  4. I agree, start over. Imagine someone you don't like constantly being in your face. I too use a stick for Jellybean to step up and even a glove sometime. Just do what is absolutely necessary for a couple of days and let her and you relax.
  5. Beautiful bird, thank you for the pictures.
  6. I agree; a new owner myself, but I would suggest not trying to get her out of her cage. Just leave the door open and see what she does. Give a lot of space and go at her pace. Those wonderful birds live so long, a month is really nothing. Jellybean seems to have bonded more with me than my husband, but he is able to move him with a peanut dangling as a treat. I would back off and see what signals the bird gives you. Don't give up just yet; she deserves your very best! I once had a dog I just adopted live under my couch for six months and he turned out to be the sweetest thing:)
  7. I can really tell the difference; he can recover and make adjustments much easier. When we first got him he would just crash to the ground. Now he can make adjustments and change his flight pattern. Another note on flighted birds; I have been watching Andrew and Tui on Youtube; what a story. However, you have to imagine my house as a circle; the dogs will leave the house through the dog door to the left, run around the house and then I have a french door on the right. One of my dogs figured out how to kind of elbow the door open, although it was closed, and come back in. Now the door is standing wide open. For the last couple of days I have locked that door so the dog had to come back in through the doggie door. Good habit, because today Jellybean tried to fly out windows and really eyed that door today. I am convinced he would have taken the chance if the door would have been open. I have learned how quick they can be; I open a cabinet door to put up some dishes and before I know it he is sitting on it! I know I am new, but please never give your bird a chance to escape. But, I really think my bird should be flighted and it is up to me to make sure he is safe.
  8. I am so glad he is finally comfortable . Although, I do let him know, in a stern voice, that biting is NOT OKAY:) He drew blood again today. Then at times he just beaks me. I think I really like a Grey"s World:)
  9. and other new stands. Jellybean spent a lot of time on the swing. I like it because he really has to learn and balance. He had a pretty awkward exit from it though and I thought he would end up on the floor, but he was able to recover nicely and not crash. All that flight training is paying of!
  10. Jellybean is on a roll today. Puffing and clicking, biting, flying and trying to land on my dear husband to do I do not know what. Tore up an egg carton, made a sound we haven't heard before and was pretty much impossible today. I will try again and let him after several hours of cage time:( All in a days work.......
  11. Great looking bird! The colors are beautiful. Way more bird than I can handle at the moment.
  12. Thank you so much. I watched myself yesterday and I was horrified! I thought my English was much better, but I tend to get things confused at times. For example; we have a restaurant here that is called "The Japanese Crepe House", yes you guessed it; without failed I will call it the "Crap House" every time. My daughter hates it! However I have met Germans that have been in the State way longer than I have, 25 years or so and their accent is horrible and it even hurts my ears:) It is all good. On the down side, if Jellybean ever decides to talk he will have a German accent?
  13. Out of his cage when ever I am home. Sometimes he gets into trouble and needs some cage time. I am a realtor and work a lot from home. I feel blessed to have that flexibility.
  14. I am wearing my glove again because he drew blood yesterday: two steps forward and one step back.

  16. That is really good advise. I will go to the vet and have Jellybean's band removed.
  17. Nice. I love when they talk. She is obviously loved:)
  18. things are going great. I learned to trust him more and he will now step up on the stick I am using without much biting. Since I noticed that his biting slowed down I am trying to really interact with him. When I am fixing his breakfast or dinner I have him on the counter with me, when I am taking a shower he is in the bathroom. Basically just have him with me and interact with him. He is still very hesitant to step up on my hand, but that is my fault. I was afraid of being bitten and now he has to learn to trust my hand. I am very happy with the progress he is making, but I wonder if the statements of the previous owners were correct. They said he was out all day, flying and interacting. Since we got him his flying improved a lot and he is able to focus in on objects and land on them. I am not using the stick and glove anymore and I hope he will learn to trust my hand soon. As of now I can offer my hand and he will test me with his beak without biting and drawing blood. Progress!
  19. I had the same problem with Jellybean, although not quite that bad. The previous owner stated that he loves to fly, but when he came to my house he really had problems navigating. Of course he had to learn the "lay of the land" so to speak, but I thought he should be better at it. I have noticed that he can not make quick changes while in flight and ended up on the floor twice today. Not sure if this had to do with their house being smaller and he didn't have enough room to really practice or they overstated on his outside cage time. He started with very short flights, then went into figure eights starting and ending on his cage. Now he is doing a full circle around our house, on a good day;) However, he is getting better every day and, in my mind, that is what counts.
  20. Found it: http://www.birdscomfort.com/playgym.html
  21. Only on an hourly basis;) it is all made of plumbing material and four wheels. The toys we already had and Carl took the time to make the ladder. I copied the design from a toy for sale on line and Carl adjusted it. Let me see if I can find the link.
  22. My dear husband made this for me and Jellybean yesterday. He spend 75,- and about 5 hours. Thank you Carl!
  23. Great looking fellow. Hi and welcome back.
