  1. This is a great topic. I can't be of any help; Sorry. But I am willing to do research with you. My Grey also has an open band and he is only about 4 years old. I can't get close enough to read any numbers on it. I have no idea what that means since he is still very young.. Can you help me out?
  2. I feel you. I had an issue this morning. Jellybean would not cooperate. I had to us a solo cup. He loves solo cups. I bribed him. It was not pretty.
  3. I won't . You guys have so much to offer. Thank you everybody!
  4. I kind of feel bad now; I know I only had him for 5 months and at some point, God willing, I be 15 years in and probably will be laughing at comments like mine. I just wanted to share a great experience. Maybe I should hold back a bit....... On a side note; I stopped smoking 10 years ago, but I still support the little steps that people take with a week under their belt. It just feels good.....
  5. Yeah, 5 months are nothing. I just know that the previous owner deceived us in how much he was actually socialized. The key sentence should have been that " they needed Jellybean's room for the twins" Right now it does not matter, because Jellybean is amazing and we are building a relationship. He is challenging, but he makes me happy. And I think he is happy too! Jellybean is such a pretty bird!
  6. He is now sitting in a porcelain bowl and going through his repertoire of whistles. This is a first; he is in the kitchen and can't see me. As soon as I enter he stops. It was like a jazz music session.. He is also mouthing a lot more. Even to my work out video. Heart wings are common and I got some kisses today. I think this is great and I love it.
  7. I just treat Jellybean like a five year old human child. It works!
  8. My husband built it for me. He seems to like it.
  9. I agree, stop the dog barking. I have 5 dogs. If I can keep them down Jellybean will not respond. Usually I do not sleep past 6:30, but I can hear the dogs first.
  10. We had him for about 5 months now. I think he got used to his routine. His flying is great and he is mouthing all the time. Lately I hear him making sounds in the morning that sound like letters. For example he will make "ssh" sound. It is just something he has not done before. Something else new that he is doing is that he will give me heart wings every time I enter the room. If I do not tell him that I am leaving and going to work he will call out and out and out. It is slow going, but so rewarding. I think he is really starting to "like" to hang out with me. He is on his stand beside me right now and that is a first. It just takes time:)
  11. so I had a couple of busy days and not so good sleeping. After a business lunch I laid down on the couch to take a nap. Jellybean was out of his cage. I had my favorite show running and would wake up to him calling me. Like a "where are you call" he usually does when I am out of the room. I would answer him and then fall back a sleep. The next call woke me up and it seemed just a second had gone by, but another episode of my show was over. So that is about 45 minutes. Just his way of checking up on me, I think.
  12. Again, I am confused; I feed nutri-berries and tried ZuPreem Nutblend. Jellybean hates the ZuPreem. He will eat the Nutri-Berries any time of day. He gets unsalted roasted nuts, almonds, every day. The fresh varies;beans, maybe some sweet potatoes with red palm oil, whatever else is in season. He really likes the hot peppers. I know they don't taste the spice, but he seems to like them. This is why I am confused; everybody seems to feed something else and swears by it. Which diet is the "right" one? Jellybean at one point in time ate dog food. He stole it as I got the dog food dishes ready.
  13. I also noticed that he does not like it when I am on the phone and try to handle him at the same time. His bites are vicious .
  14. way more needy. I was gone for 4 hours today. My daughter was home, but she does not handle Jellybean. According to her he called out " a lot" . Whatever that means to a teenager. I have him out of now and he is giving me heart wings. Stopped calling out. I have to take him with me to different rooms more often, since my husband is not there to talk to him.
  15. So sorry for your loss. It happens in a blink of an eye. Almost happened to me. Please don't blame yourself:)
  16. wow, what progress. To catch you up: husband is deploying this week for nine month. Did not let Jelly Bean out like I usually do today. Oh the repercussions....he is not a happy bird. I put food in his cage and he tries to bite me. Had him out this afternoon, just the usual. Then I put him back in, because I was cooking and did not want him to get into trouble. Then it happened; he is calling out insanely as I am switching to night clothes. Usually I do not let him out after he does that, ( do not want to encourage it), but I can't help and put myself in his position. He just wants to be with me! So I approach the cage and he is doing his head bobbing and I can't help to let him out. Then I talk to him some more and he starts to regurgitate for me. I am amazed and speechless......
  17. I get up around 6:30, make coffee, uncover Jellybean and feed everybody (dogs, fish and parakeets). Have some coffee and fix my breakfast shake and Jellybean's breakfast. While I am having coffee Jellybean eats whatever he likes from the night before. At this point if it a weekend Jellybean comes out, on a weekday I leave him in , because I have to drive my daughter to school shortly. After that, it is pretty much depending on my day and what I have to do AND Jellybeans mood. Dinner around 5 p.m. and more outside cage time. Then to bed around 8 p.m. and we retire to our bedroom. Jellybean sleeps in the living room.
  18. Jellybean is loosing too. Big ones only during flight, but bunches of small ones. He does not like the red palm oil, but I will microwave and try again. He actually started eating Kale the other day. Usually he will throw it out, but I have it to him again and it was gone:) The light is important. thank you. will get that fixed soon.
  19. I feel you. We keep our fireplace going in the living room so everybody stays warm as I like the bedrooms to be a little colder. I tend to wake up and worry about Jellybean.
  20. I know they are "dusty" and generate a lot of dander, but please try everything else first. This would be very sad.
  21. During our, now past, bathroom renovation I learned that Jellybean will call out to me and if I answer in some kind of whistle he will imitate. I take it as bonding also. It seems to calm him down when I answer and it makes me feel better when he is calm, of course.
  22. You all know about my bathroom renovation project (hopefully coming to an end tomorrow). Jellybean is upset over that, at the same time he has been molting. Or what I believe is molting. What upsets me right now is that he lost two large grey feathers on different days. I will find them after he takes a flight. There is the occasional fluffy one after he preens. How do I tell the difference between molting and plucking?
