  1. Happy Hatchday! Isn't it amazing how quickly time passes?
  2. Boy, do I know that feeling. Months will pass without "the bite" then seemingly out of the blue I fail to perform in some fashion and get the latch and grind. I'm sure he has his reasons. You would think after 10 years I could read his body language better, but apparently not. Obviously, I'm not trying hard enough. I just returned from a week of vacation, with "dad" (hubby) home serving his highness. Needless to say, I'm getting the cold shoulder as I do after any absence. He forgot himself for a few minutes when I first came in and lowered his head for a scritch complete with his baby bird cheeps. He quickly came to his senses and is now punishing me appropriately for my neglect by turning his back to me and giving me the occasional stink-eye over his shoulder. I'm alert for the bite tonight, based on past experience. He doesn't care that I choose Ft. Myers Beach for my vacation and survived the hurricane. I'm sure if he could verbalize he would tell me "that's what you get."
  3. I buy little carob chips, which ARE bird safe, with my typical "Timber has Christmas all year long" orders. He loves them as a treat. I wonder how they would bake in things? I've never tried, he likes them plain.
  4. I sent you some of the recipes I've collected in a message. Timber won't eat any of it. I hope you have better luck! You can also buy prepared bird bread mixes from suppliers of bird products, many solid name brands. I've tried several of those, adding veggie purees (pure and natural baby foods from store) to try to up the vegetable content. Timber won't touch those either, FYI Search the "stickies" here, there are many recipes in the bird feed ones if I remember correctly. Good luck!
  5. The only recipe I have is for chop and birdy bread, neither of which Timber will eat! Sorry, no help here.
  6. Oh my! I had not idea babies were that much. Timber is a rescue too.
  7. Great pictures! I think Alfie's a "ham" I'd have a really had time deciding which one to hang too. I'd probably do a collage of several of them.
  8. Glad whatever "behavior" was or what the cause was it hasn't become a regular. It sounds like she was in a bad situation, glad you were able to get her out of it. I can see what you mean about her vocalizations being horrifying and funny and the same time. Oh my!
  9. I wish I had advice to give, but I haven't had experience with a plucker. Hopefully someone will come along who does. My Timber isn't really a "toy" bird either, but he will shred cardboard half the day if it's available. It keeps him busy for many hours.
  10. Hello and welcome! Ask what you will, someone here will usually have an idea to try or some wisdom from experience to share. Beautiful bird, congratulations!
  11. Debbie looks beautiful! They do tend to bite when startled. I have to say though, that there are times I feel Timber has bitten me from spite, to redress perceived insults or failures on my part, ha. Much like he is disciplining a wayward child
  12. Happy 4th of July to all my US friends. I would have taken a picture of Timber in his little flag hat, except that I didn't ordered it because I knew he'd never wear it, ha. Enjoy you day, stay safe, and remember that freedom isn't free. God bless you all.
  13. So sorry, that is a lot of loss in a very short time.
  14. Beautiful dog! Glad you aren't giving up on Sukei, and know you won't. I've had enough blood drawn that I can commiserate!
  15. As we head for our BBQ's etc., and feed our fids their favorites, never forget the real meaning of Memorial Day. Remember all those who served and sacrificed all for our freedoms. My thanks to all who served or are serving. God bless
  16. I wouldn't be holding my breath either! Their will and determination matches the most stubborn of people.
  17. That's great! Aways good to have a back-up living close too.
  18. Ha, well at least Greycie eats salad! Timber is convinced that it he eats anything green (other than peas) he will die...
  19. That's great! What an interesting trip that turned out to be. I feel for you. The nearest avian vet is about 2 hours for me too.
  20. From what I've found, CAGs run 350 to 650 grams and TAGs 250 to 375 grams. That's a pretty broad weight range, so Alfie is probably just on the bigger end. Timber is 272 grams, so he's on the small side of the TAGs.
  21. That's funny! Your TAG has taken on the parent role, telling you to quiet down and go to sleep.
  22. I've never noticed this with Timber. Sometimes his "natural" smell seems stronger, but not different.
