Best Bird Toys Ever/Not to mention cheap!
Timbersmom replied to terryspear's topic in The GREY Lounge
LOL Timber takes no joy in watching me clean it up. In fact, I get the stink eye. If he would use his words, I'm pretty sure he'd say "get your hands off of my beautiful creation you cretin." -
Truer words were never spoken. Those seeking instant gratification with a gray are doomed to disappointment in 99% of cases. On the other hand, it never ceases to amaze me how much we will put up with and tolerate while waiting!

Best Bird Toys Ever/Not to mention cheap!
Timbersmom replied to terryspear's topic in The GREY Lounge
Timber is all about cardboard. I keep all my boxes, strip off all the tape and gummy stuff, and let him shred to his heart's content. That's his favorite thing to do. I have little luck with any other kind of "toy." -
Timber has a fairly large vocabulary but rarely uses it. Like head scratches, his talking is when HE is in the mood, never on demand. Most of the time, he vocalizes when I'm not in the room, as if he's trying to lure me back to his area. As soon as I come through the door, silence.
-
That's fantastic! The hardest thing (for me) in dealing with Timber are his "moods." I'm sure he has his reasons, but I wish I knew what was going on inside that head. I've read what others say about body language, possible causes etc., but still am at a loss to figure out why he goes through the stages he goes through. I'd be careful that whatever body part you choose is expendable

Newspapers here as well.

Is there such a thing as too much sleep?

I have this https://birdsupplies.com/products/pak-o-bird-backpack-bird-carrier?currency=USD&variant=43451676295424&stkn=b0605d7fb489&campaign_id=15618519570&ad_id=570480166975&gad_source=1 for transport, but it's pricy just for vet trips. Works great though. As others have said, they can usually deal with short trips pretty well. I have seen cat carriers mentioned in the past as a short term solution. I also agree with taking her to the avian vet for a check-up as soon as feasible. My bird was sick and they do hide illness very well. It was a near disaster, and I'll never hesitate to make that trip again. -
Hello and welcome! I have no experience with egg laying either, but agree on what the others have said about her behavior in the video. I've always gone with King's cages also, but haven't purchased one in 4 or 5 years. Also, good point about the bar spacing. Your bird is a sweetheart

I sure hope he's "coming around!" Wish I were a mind reader. Timber has some odd humors sometimes, and I'd love to know what's going on inside that bird-brain.
-
hmmm. Sounds suspicious to me. I suspect he's planning a major assault and lulling you into complacency...
-
Wow, no clue. Timber can't fly so I have no experience. I would assume they will adapt, but if it is already 5 months it seems they would have be now.
-
Ha, funny. They do have their own ideas. Love the sarcastic impression!
-
Timber doesn't. I've tried regular and the vegetable noodles (high hopes there) and he just isn't interested. Cooked, he loves any kind of past (except, of course, the veggie noodles).
-
Timber meows in 3 distinct "voices." Drives the cats insane, but the rest of us enjoy it. He does it well enough that I cannot tell from another room if it is him or one of the cats.
-
Good to see you posting again KevinD! Everything seems to be running very smoothly here. I'd like to see more activity too, but it is what it is. I've tried the facebook groups but they move quickly from one thing to another, and there are too many dramatic people making too much noise there for me.
-
The horse was definitely enjoying the experience more than the owner appeared to be!
-
LOL yes they are possessive of there stuff, their "creations" and their areas.
-
Lovely! Timber seems upset when I sweep up his messes, so apparently he sees it as art!
-
I haven't been bitten in several months. Extreme caution and speedy reflexes are the main reason. Also, I'm Timber's "person" unlike Kevin. My husband, on the other hand, is fair game. Timber's game is to see if he can catch him unaware and make contact. In Timber's defense, he hasn't hung and and ground his beak on Gary's flesh for awhile, just gives him a warning pinch. Well it is a game Talon, just not one you came up with. Little stinkers.
-
Or the constantly crud covered floor. When I first got Timber, I drove myself nuts sweeping up about his area several times a day. Now, once a day will do it!
-
Yikes! About the same price here in Illinois, but for only one bird! I feel your pain.
-
Actually, those are sugar snap peas. They are about the only "green" thing he will tolerate. Kids!
-
Timber is the same. He loves meat. He won't eat fish, but that's the only meat he turns his nose up at.
-
Curious, do they eat the marrow from the ham bone? I know Timber likes to crack chicken wing bones and strip it out.
