  1. Two posts in two days! A record for me. Progress with Timber (rehomed TAG) seems to be snowballing right now though, thank God. The pic is of Timber napping (I woke him up trying to get a pic) on his new playstand. He's decided he likes it! After a few days I'll start adding some things to it. What I'm really posting about though is that he stepped up for the first time today! I needed to go in another room and I can't leave him out (I have four cats) so I told him he either had to go in or go with me. I offered my hand and he climbed on without lunging or getting my wrist in a death grip. We made a brief tour of the dining room and the bathroom without incident. He did go up to my shoulder and perch there. No nips, no grips, no squawks, nice trip. He stepped right back on his cage when we got to it without incident either and looked quite pleased with himself. This probably doesn't seem like much to experienced bird owners or those with tamer birds, but for us it is major progress!
  2. Aerial, I didn't even know there was such an event until I saw someone posting about it. I googled it and found out there are a few within driving distance every year. Go for it!
  3. Love the pics! I had to laugh about the claw up the nose though
  4. So glad you have her! Good luck and God bless
  5. What a pretty bird! Thanks for the pics, love looking at them.
  6. Haaaa... yes, I had to put a cap on my expenditures before I went in the door. I've done all my shopping online because there aren't any retail outlets around me. It was a lot different seeing it in person. It was also good to be able to see how stuff was really "put together" because it gave me some ideas about things I could do myself. I'm not very creative, but if I have a pattern in my head I can do it!
  7. Ouch! It is still hurtful even when you understand the reasons. Hope she comes around soon!
  8. Love the videos here. Thanks for posting
  9. LOL Good picture!
  10. Beautiful bird! Thanks for sharing
  11. Well, I finally located and was able to go to a bird fair. The nearest one was in Collinsville, IL, which is a couple of hours from me. It was great though! So much stuff and so many pretty birds. I met some nice people and got to see a lot of birds that I'd only seen in pics here on the forum before. I found a playstand for Timber, which I'd been shopping for, at a good price. I attached a pic of him finally starting to warm up to it. He has been staring at it for 24 hours now. I was able to lure him on to it with a piece of cheese and a paper towel roll (his favorite "toy").
  12. Timber (TAG) has a red feather on his neck. I didn't think about it being like a birthmark, but I suppose it is!
  13. I love reading your updates, thanks for sharing!
  14. Cute! Thanks for the video, I love watching them. Timber doesn't toy snuggle. I love giving him an animal cracker once in awhile though, because he will nibble at it then scratch his neck with it, then nibble at it, then scratch... until the cookie is gone.
  15. I am wondering if Gilbert and Timber were separated at birth or just soul mates! Timber is like that too. When he is in the carrier (like going to the vet) he says every word he knows plus some I didn't know he knew. When he is in/around his cage and feeling comfortable he is not a chatterbox. At the vet's office (in the waiting room, still in the carrier) he was entertaining everyone and talking up a storm. Everyone in the waiting room was his new best friend. Funny!
  16. Awesome indeed! It would sure make things easier if we could tell what they are thinking. I'd love to have an explanation for some of Timber's moodiness. I've tried to figure it out, but can never find a pattern. On the plus side, I'm able to pet him daily now. Before he started allowing that, I was scratching his head through the cage bars while he bit down on the bars. I always thought there was such a look of longing in his eyes. So, I know what you mean! Those moments make it all worth while
  17. That makes three of us then. Did you get the verdict on the DNA test?
  18. The only vegetables my TAG will eat are sweet potato (cooked), carrots (fresh or cooked), broccoli (fresh or cooked), and sweet peas (fresh). I think it is an individual bird preference, just like my kids were. I've tried a lot of them and these are the winners. I can also slip some of the ones he won't eat plain into birdie bread or a cooked combo (chop type). Also like a child! If he doesn't notice it he will eat it if combined with something he does like. As I'm sure someone else pointed out, he is a lot more likely to "try it" if I'm eating it right in front of him.
  19. Nothing crazy about caring enough for your pets to do all you can Nancy
  20. I really appreciate this forum and those who contribute to it. A variety of methods, ideas, and personalities are represented here, and I like how everyone is willing to voice their opinion. It is also very active, which sets it apart from the other forums I have seen. Thank you to the moderators and admins that donate their time and expertise!
  21. What a great post! Thanks for sharing. I hope to have that kind of relationship with Timber some day
  22. What a good looking guy! You've made a beautiful area for him there. Welcome!
  23. I always enjoy the Gilbert updates! I've noticed the same thing with Timber. After a pet-fest, he seems pretty pleased with himself and gets active too. With my son (college age), Timber has a love/hate relationship. He seems to have more interest in him than anyone else in the house, but he is very temperamental in his interaction with him. He is always excited to see him, but you can never tell if he wants a scratch or a bite with him. I think he is angry because Dakota isn't always around, but wants his attention anyway.
  24. Thanks Sarasota. Glad to hear it!
  25. LOL That guinea pig noise would be an annoying one! Funny that they waited six months to let loose on that one.
