  1. Unless you are using a nanny cam or something it's hard to say what he's doing while you are gone. I don't have any experience with babies, but I'm assuming, like their older counterparts, that as soon as he hears you arrive he starts trying to get your attention and stops whatever he may have been doing. That is convoluted, but my point is he may actually be messing with stuff in his cage when you are totally out of the picture! Once I get home, Timber's focus is on me and getting me to come to him. There is evidence in the cage that he has been shredding, etc. while I was gone. That evidence may not be as apparent with your baby.
  2. I'll check Amazon. I was thinking of playing it when I'm not there if he likes it. Don't know if I could handle it!
  3. Funny! That's a good one. May have some prospective bird owners there.
  4. Still waiting with anticipation for the toucan poop pics... what has become of me!
  5. I imagine she is pretty "set in her ways!" Kudos for your willingness to work with her. Also read about the vet visit. My thought was the same... "herpes???" Wow, who would think of something like that with a bird. Hemorrhoids either for that matter. At least there is an explanation for the behavior you noticed and possibly the crop issue. I'd say that is progress anyway.
  6. LOL Very true! If there is an uncovered inch they will find it...
  7. Hello and welcome! We love pictures, so keep posting
  8. Thanks for sharing! I love looking at the pics here. Yes Ray, like kids at Christmas, they just want the box!
  9. Glad to see you back and sorry about the computer problems. There is nothing more frustrating to me than dealing with that stuff. The only trojans we have had to deal with at work came from trusted sources in the same fashion. Really annoying!
  10. Interesting! I'll have to download some flute music and give it a shot with Timber.
  11. Yikes! Poo pictures is a new idea... I can only imagine cleaning up after multiple birds. I just have one, and it seems that every time I sit down I notice a new spot to clean and a sly looking bird. I'm with Aerial, baby/wet wipes in every room! The countertop scraper murfchck mentioned sounds like a good idea. I need to get one of those for the spots I miss when they are fresh.
  12. Nice pics! She's such a pretty GIRL. I'm still thinking about it, but leaning toward having Timber tested next visit. After everything I'd read here, I probably need to know in case of egg problems, etc. However, like Athena I think Timber would stay "he" to us regardless of the test. Too confusing for him and us!
  13. It is so exciting isn't it? Remember though, that like people it isn't all the "stuff" that makes a happy bird, it is your love and positive interaction with her. So, just focus on enjoying her and loving her and all will be well!
  14. When certain rock songs play (like on utube videos I am watching on my laptop) Timber seems to get excited and dances around. Saturday my son was playing drums in the other room (still really, really loud where Timber and I were) and Timber was whistling and bopping around like he enjoyed it. I think, like people, they are quite individual in their tastes!
  15. Sounds like you are doing great Sassy!
  16. Love the pics! You can see so much of his feather pattern in them. Nice!
  17. Pepper is beautiful! So glad to hear she is adjusting so well. Don't be discouraged if she withdraws a bit after the first day or two. That is what Timber did, but now he's back in the thick of things. Good luck!
  18. Wet wipes are a wonderful thing...
  19. I sure feel for you on those vet bills! So glad you and your husband are in agreement on the issue though. Funny what you said about marriage counseling. I remember a long time ago my mom (now 88) said, "back when people had less time and extra income on their hands, they seemed to get along better." I've found out that is true for me. When you have real stuff to worry about like health issues or bills (yours or the "kids") you don't have the time and energy to pick at all the little stuff!
  20. No. I took Timber, my rehomed TAG to the vet the day after I got him for a check up. The previous owner said he had never flown (she had him for 6 months). The vet asked if he flew, and I told her the previous owner said he didn't. About that time, he took off flying and landed in the corner of her office. Ha. At any rate, her advice was to clip him since I was a new bird owner, wasn't able to handle him at that point, had four cats and other hazards around the house, etc. I'm going to see how it plays out as the feathers grow back. If I'm comfortable in being able to get him to come to me etc. as they grow in, I won't have them clipped again. If I'm not sure I can handle whatever situation occurs I will. His safety comes before anything else to me.
  21. That's a good point. I'll have to see if Illinois has any requirements. I was planning to ask the vet to remove it on Timber's next visit.
  22. What a little beauty! Thanks for sharing the pics and his first adventures with us Good questions about the mirror. Since Timber is stepping up now I've been walking around the house with him. When we come to a mirror I let him look. He doesn't seem attracted or repelled, just stares. I always point and say "there's Timber in the mirror" but I never know what he thinks.
  23. My TAG is a bit underweight too Nancy, so I understand how troubling it is. Like Sunny, there are several things he will eat from my hand or a spoon but won't touch if I don't stand there and hold it. Ha. So, I stand there and hold it! He must think I'm a real sucker (I should say knows it), and anyone watching would think I'm nuts. Oh well. On the other hand, I'd think it might be a mistake to take a groomer's word over the vet's. If the vet says Sunny is healthy and isn't concerned about the weight, maybe it isn't a problem?
  24. I am clueless too. Unless it is the food, I can't imagine what it could be. The only odor I notice with Timber is a not unpleasant smell when I'm up close petting him. I assume this is the normal "grey" smell others have mentioned, but as I say it isn't a bad smell, just his unique fragrance. I was really surprised that his droppings don't seem to have any particular odor. I'm used to cats and that is a different story!
  25. That's great! When I saw Timber blushing I had to go to the internet to find out what that was and was so excited to see it was a good thing. Marvelous progress
