  1. LOL Yes, the forbidden holds an irresistible lure for the birds, just as it does for humans. The saying "no, no" when I hang a new toy is one I'll definitely have to try!
  2. Isn't that the truth! That's an important lesson and I forgot it. Guess it has become such a part of my routine that I don't even notice anymore. Scary! You have to wonder if they are thinking "just how stupid is he/she?"
  3. LOL You've created a monster! (So to speak)
  4. Well, I'm sure Timber would like to have a go at several things, but he doesn't get the opportunity. Because of the free roaming cats, I always keep a pretty close eye on him. Since he won't step down on anything but a perch, he's limited to the cage, the playtop, his stand perch, and the big cage on the front porch. Oh, he will step off onto the fooseball table handles in the basement. So, he has had a lack of opportunity so far. As he gets braver, I'm sure he will start getting into more stuff though. Argh
  5. They certainly have minds of there own. I wonder if it has anything to do with the kids being gone to school and you being by yourself? It seems like any change in routine evokes some kind of response from Timber, some negative, some positive! At least you were able to figure out a "work around."
  6. LOL My husband, when talking to Timber, says "your great-great-great-great-great granddaddy was a velociraptor."
  7. He's been on to me for a long time. Training is going well though. So far, he has taught me to "speak" to "beg" to try things I don't want to eat, and many other things I'm sure he will remind me of...
  8. LOL! Gabby is sure coming right along. Don't you wish they would do all that talking when you are in the room? I have to hide around the corner before Timber will say words (most of the time). It is annoying because I can't make some of it out, and I think I could tell what he was saying if I was closer! The cam isn't working great for that either, because there is too much background noise. Kudos on the progress
  9. Woohoo! Love to hear about progress
  10. Good news from the vet! So glad to hear Bubba is over that "hump" or bump as the case may be
  11. Yet another advantage of feeding chicken bones Ray! Timber hasn't shown much interest in the woodwork (thank you Lord).
  12. It's really hard to tell how large or small they are if you are a novice (like me) and they aren't sitting next to another bird of the same species. I didn't realize Timber was "small" until the vet said he was either. Timber has major issues with what he considers to be "step up" or "step down" worthy, so he wouldn't stand on a scale with a flat surface.
  13. I didn't notice any changes when I was giving it to him. I'll add it back in to chop-type things I make him. I doubt that it would matter in those quantities since he didn't have a reaction when he was eating more of it! Like you, I certainly don't do it year round because of cost/availability.
  14. Good idea! I'll have to see if Timber likes it. He will at least try it since he will probably think it is sweet potato He likes asparagus too. Did I read on here somewhere that asparagus isn't good for them though? I was thinking I was giving it to him pretty regularly then read it wasn't great for them. If that isn't right, I'd like to know, because his likes in vegetables are pretty limited.
  15. So, pumpkin is safe cooked or raw for them and so are the seeds. That answers my questions at any rate. Thanks!
  16. I'm so glad to hear your decision! I don't think you will regret it. It probably isn't your imagination at all. I think they have a very acute sense for stress and our moods!
  17. Haaaa! That would be tough to talk your way out of...
  18. Thanks for taking the time to try to track down a source luvparrots. If someone with the skill, talent and time picked up on this, it would make a great "cottage industry." I'm sure Walmart just doesn't know how many "crazy bird people" there are out there!
  19. For others who wanted to know, here's the thread... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?196895-Chicken-bone-question&p=268116#post268116
  20. Great! I bought some plain frozen wings to boil for him. Good to know he can have as often as I want to cook one. Also good to know I need to take the gristle off. Thanks
  21. Thanks! Timber will be disappointed, but he will survive. Do you think once a week is too often then?
  22. If this has been asked and answered I apologize, but I haven't found it. How often should I give Timber (5 year-old TAG) a chicken wing (most of the meat removed)? I have found that he loves them, and know that I need to boil them for him, but don't know how often he should have one. Thanks!
  23. Nice going! Wish I were so organized...
