  1. I understand your frustration! Timber will only eat nutriberries and avicakes (they have pellet and seed). He eats some of the stuff I fix and some vegetables but the other pellets? Forget it. I tried every brand that was recommended to no avail. I know they may not be ideal, but like you I'm unwilling to starve him (he was underweight when I got him). What it boils down too, I guess, is you do what you have to do.
  2. Your bird is blessed in having an understanding and accomodating parront! I think you are right... a lot of things that seem important to us don't matter a whit to them
  3. That must be nice! Timber has no manners and just lets loose wherever he is...
  4. I'm so pleased with our progress. I really had my doubts in the first couple of months, would he ever let me touch him?; would he ever like me or want to interact with us?; that kind of thing. As far as I can tell, he wasn't abused in his previous homes, which makes the world of difference I'm sure. The other day I was on the phone. Timber would say OK (3-second pause), Bye! He did it three or four times. He is really starting to come out of his shell. It is so nice to hear him talking in front of me instead of having to leave the room and hide around the corner to hear him vocalize. He and one of my cats (I have four and it just happens with the one) have a "jealousy" battle going. When I pet this cat, Timber starts "beeping." When I'm scratching Timber, the cat stands around and meows. They are so funny to watch! Thankfully, they have no interaction otherwise (don't go after each other in any way). I was a little disturbed the other night because he was going through all the motions of getting ready to regurg on me. I've been careful to limit my scratching to his head. I just put him back up on his cage door where he likes to perch. On the other hand, my youngest son can usually give him scratches and he doesn't get upset when hubby and i hug in front of him etc., so I'm assuming he is OK that way? I want to have a close relationship with him but not close that way if you know what I mean.
  5. What a handsome guy Elwood is! Love the pics Sounds like you are both doing well. No advice about the Senegal situation since I'm not yet a victim of MBS but I'm sure someone will come along with some ideas for you
  6. Glad to hear Ethan is OK. I'm sure Jasper will get hold of anything he can. I have a constant battle with Timber and the cord that goes to his avian light. I think his cage is far enough away, only to see him stretching that neck one inch further!
  7. I wish I could help, but I don't have enough experience. Hopefully someone will come along with some suggestions. From what I've read, I'm wondering if he sees you as his "mate?" That would provoke the attacks and jealously of your significant other I would guess. As to how to correct it, not a clue here!
  8. Welcome and good luck to you and Odin! It sounds like he is settling right in. What a blessing that he is "friendly" with you and your husband.
  9. Glad you all made it safely! Sorry to hear about your cat and the blood. That would have probably put me over the edge!
  10. Yes, it is my favorite time of the day! And his too I'd like to think
  11. So glad to hear she's getting wherever she wants to go!
  12. That's great news! What a relief that things are "normal" again and the cyst is gone. Good deal on the weight rebound too
  13. Pretty name! The only thing I can honestly say I regret about getting a rehomed bird instead of a baby was that I didn't get to name him/her. That said, it doesn't really matter, but I like to see the cool names people come up with anyway
  14. Me too 54 here now but even that is too cold for me!
  15. Hello and welcome Nicki Glad to see you here and post some pics so we can see Jude! Love the name by the way.
  16. I haven't posted any pics recently of Timber, so I took this one when we were getting ready for cuddle time last night. You can't see all of him, but I thought the effect was kind of neat. He is on my arm, which is on my lap, and I hope that shows up in the pic!
  17. Great pics! What is her name? If you have said it I'm not seeing it...
  18. Interesting! I believe Timber is right-footed.
  19. Carol, have you thought about listing on amazon.com?
  20. That's great! Glad all is going well. I suspect the fun has just begun. Have any recent pics?
  21. No, no Ray. You aren't locked up. That is just a pose that Dan didn't include. You know the "frozen stare" position when something changes in the room? Unfortunately, I'd be doing that one the most as I tried to maneuver these joints to the next one!
  22. Timber (TAG) isn't big on greens either. He shows the most interest and at least gets some on his beak when I thread a big leaf (like kale or mustard green) in the bars of his cage, or sometimes when I stick pieces on a skewer. In the bowl? Forget about it. You can put them minced up in chop or other homemade stuff you make too (sneak them in). Welcome and good luck!
  23. LOL to the Popsicle debacle! We just never know until we try though. I get the "seriously?" look from Timber all the time as I try to "enrich" his life.
  24. If Bobby's previous owner didn't know Bobby's gender, it would seem doubtful that he/she was ever bred? Sounds like you rescured Bobby from a bad situation there though. Believe me, if you were able to scratch her head for over a minute I sure wouldn't call her "unfriendly!" As to the band thing, a lot of people have them removed, and there are other reasons there wouldn't be a band. More experienced members can address that. Good luck and God bless
  25. They can mimic about anything from what I've heard. Timber's personal favorite is the smoke detector battery check tone. That is probably similar to your truck back up warning sounds. I'd love to see video of the canary performance also!
