  1. Just gives you good-bumps doesn't it? Timber and I always have cuddle time right before I put him in to sleep. He is usually sitting on his playstand watching me play xbox before bed. He has started making this sound right about 8 o'clock, which is usually cuddle time. It's a cheeping (almost baby) sound that I assume is his "ready to cuddle" sound. Every time I hear it I smile!
  2. That is so sad. Like adopting a child, you just never know everything they were exposed to. Their ability to retain phrases and memories is amazing, though many times you would rather they forgot!
  3. Yes, and my name is half-wit I'm thinking Thanks for sharing! Interesting stuff
  4. Great pics! They sure do enjoy them.Timber even looks different when he is holding a bone. Don't know if it is excitement or what, but he lays his feathers back and looks slicker? He really gets into it at any rate. Maybe that is his predator look!
  5. A cheap stop-gap is to put your laptop webcam on the birds. You get sound (mine is troubled but that's my problem with my laptop) and video. You can stream it through http://www.ustream.tv/ free, and see it from anywhere, even on your phone. Sarasota told me about it, and she could give you more info. It works for me, and at no added cost. I'm looking for a better camera so would like to hear what you decide on!
  6. I didn't take any pics, but Timber was scared of the pumpkin. I gave him a small piece and he dropped it. So, I baked a piece, thinking he might like it cooked. I put it on a plate and sat with him near it. He sniffed it then ignored it. So, I finally cut a few pieces up and put it with his dinner. Later, they were in the bottom of the cage. Stubborn bird! I have half still in the fridge (it was only about 8 inches in diameter) and will try something else with that. It was worth a try anyway, but it seems like I spent half the day with it. I suspect Timber is laughing to himself about me and the pumpkin!
  7. How heartbreaking! I am so sorry for your loss.
  8. Well this thread convinced me. I bought a very small pumpkin today. I plan to give it to Timber tomorrow. Fun, fun!
  9. Well, I'm relieved to hear that because Timber is really fond of meat, but I was afraid to give him too much.
  10. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing and good luck!
  11. LOLOL I'll bet you do get looks with that one! Twix, yes. My understanding is that they can have a little meat but not much.
  12. Funny isn't it! Guess they are like kids, like something one day, not the next. Timber has been taking it by spells, so I'm not going to give them as often. The first couple he demolished, then one he hardly seemed interested in. Last night I gave him one and he ate it right down. Note to self: Don't push stuff he likes or it will lose its novelty and he won't eat it...
  13. Haaa... when I give Timber the chicken bone I say "here you go you little cannibal." A lot of things freak the people I know out about Timber, but mostly how much time and attention I give him! The other night I said, "I really need to go. Timber needs out of cage time." Got the crazy bird woman looks from them
  14. I can't even imagine how panicked you must have felt! What a horrible experience. I "third" the nanny cam. As Sara suggested, I turned my laptop (webcam) on Timber and feed it through ustream. At least that gives you a sense of what is going on and you would have heard the alarms going off!
  15. Funny! Sounds like something else I need to try...
  16. Unfortunately, Timber feels that way about hamburger! I do give him a bite, and it is the 95% lean chuck, but he gets upset when I won't give him more.
  17. ooops, getting an error msg on the url Sara.
  18. You guys need to try doing the chicken dance for Sondhi and Athena. Don't forget to video
  19. LOL to the 40 hour, part time retirement job! That's the reason I haven't retired, though the system I'm in allows it. I'd get another job for a variety of reasons, and I really like the one I have so I just stay! I remember a pic I received by email, the one of the skelton sitting in a desk chair, and thought there I am! 80 years old and still showing up Those mornings are great though, and I look forward to them. I'll bet Cricket also knows about what time you will be home if you have the same routine daily. I notice on the webcam that Timber always heads for the bottom of his cage about 15 minutes before my hubby gets home (he's there before me). Every day, same thing. He knows it's about time for Gary to be home.
  20. I hope you video it! I am shopping for one myself. they are starting to show up in the markets here. Please don't feel that way about posting. Sometimes the threads do get off subject, and I'm as guilty of that as anyone. However, even when the threads get off course, I still learn things I didn't know and that's the main reason I'm here, so it's all good in my mind. I'll make a more conscious effort to "stay on task"
  21. He's a beauty! I'm a novice, but it sounds to me like he's doing great.
