  1. Timbersmom

    Poor baby

Glad to hear she's eating better. Hang in there!
  2. Not bad though! I have three bloody spots from my run in with Timber this morning. Maybe I need to get the book!
  3. Hello John, welcome and God bless
  4. LOLOL I'm sure you're right about the hypnotic gaze! I'm sure Timber only bit me because he could no longer resist the lure of my intoxicating flesh in close proximity to his beak. Oh Lord it's hard to be humble...
  5. I'm a newbie so can't offer much advice, but I'd think if you had the time and patience you could work with her and handle her to at least some extent. More experienced people will chime in. Meanwhile, welcome and good luck
  6. I was just referring to stages of development, like human children go through. I've never had a baby, but when others responded saying young birds do that (land on the head) I assumed it was a phase they went through. Sorry for any confusion!
  7. Sure wish I'd been looking closely at Timber this morning when he decided to take a plug out of my hand. He hasn't bitten me to over two months and I wasn't expecting it! Hard to think of everything at moments like that. In hindsight, I should have looked for eye pinning as I was trying to extricate my thumb from his beak
  8. So glad to hear things are going well for you and Romeo! Thanks for sharing the pics also. He's looking better all the time
  9. So sorry to hear the cat has been in pain for that long, but so happy to hear you've found him and are going to take care of him!
  10. I see the images so it may be a browser problem?
  11. LOL to the "poker face!" Interesting stuff Dan, thanks!
  12. That would have been a surprise after four years! Another tear-jerker moment Timber is clipped. when I took him to the basement with me (doing laundry) the other day. He flew from my shoulder to the floor. He's done that before, but this time he went quite a bit further than his usual flap and glide to the floor. Does this mean his feathers are growing back in? I'm leaning toward not having him clipped when they grow back, but I have no idea how long that takes.
  13. Like Gracie, there are times Timber just seems to be running through his vocabulary. That's usually when he is alone. Other times, it is obvious that he is using language appropriately. He says "goodbye" when I leave for work and when I go to bed, with no prompting. He says hello when I come home, etc. If I'm on the phone for more than a minute, he says, "OK.... Bye!" I notice when I'm watching him on the cam from work, he will occasionally say "it's OK Timber" which I assume is self-comforting. The other day, the phone was ringing as I was watching. My answering machine vocalizes. If you don't answer after two rings the machine says "Call from <name or number>." The other day, after the answering machine said the number, Timber said "hello." When it rang again, he said "hellooooo" (irritated tone). He says more phrases and words all the time, and one of the joys of living with a grey is to see what he'll come up with next
  14. That sounds like good news to me as well.
  15. I hope so too. Timber does, but usually over cheese as Josey does.
  16. I feel for you Morana! I can only imagine how scary it must be for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Zak.
  17. As someone commented in an earlier thread... birdie crack!
  18. Enjoyed the video! What is it with greys and cameras? if they see it, seems they are going to go after it
  19. Hello and welcome! Feel free to ask any questions you may have. There is always someone here to help
  20. Wow, looks great! Sorry to hear about the harnesses though! What a rip off.
  21. That's great! I understand totally what you said about the "loner" behavior. I am one myself (as is my husband), which is why I think Timber is such a perfect match for me. He wants to be in the same room I am in, but once there he goes about his business and I do mine. Once in awhile one of us will speak or whistle and the other responds. We have times we are more interactive, and we always have cuddle time at his bedtime, but a lot of our daily routine is spent enjoying each other's company without being "in each other's face" so to speak. I really like his independence and his spirit. If you read the forums here, you will see that each bird has their own personality and needs. He must have had a good relationship with someone in the past to accept you so readily, which is a real blessing! Almost the first time I had Timber on my arm and started scratching around his head, he dropped his head on my stomach, tail feathers in the air, feet relaxed, and eyes closed. I thought "this isn't his first rodeo." One of his owners spent quality time with him and he remembered it and craved it. Now it's a routine for us. This didn't happen until I had been working with him for almost two months. It took some time for me to earn his trust, but once I did we've never looked back. You will learn more every day about your bird's personality and what he needs from you (as well as what you want from him). What makes it so much fun is that even after you think you "know" him, he will surprise you. As Joe and Gilbert did, if you read those threads, he comes out with things from his past (vocalizations and behaviors) that are new to me periodically. I expect he will continue to do so. One of the most amazing things about the grey species, to me, is their memory!
