  1. Always better safe than sorry, as you say! Good for you.
  2. Well, tell Pat Happy Birthday from us! I gave hubby my Christmas list. His comment was, "well, half this stuff is for that bird!" Ah well...
  3. LOL Loved the video! Jungle chicken indeed...
  4. Loved the videos! I'll be interested to hear what the people with experience say about Emmy rubbing her beak on you. Timber loves for me to scratch around his beak, and I was wondering if that is what she was after. It may be some behavior that has meaning though, and if so someone who knows will say so. I'd say you are correct about Dutch wanting to get into the action! Timber has one feather of similar color on his neck. I believe someone said that was like a "birthmark" on a person.
  5. LOL They obviously do it to express displeasure just like we do.
  6. Very true, I find it fascinating to see the personality differences between the greys here.
  7. This thread is so interesting to me because Timber has never bitten my clothes. My fingers and arm are fair game, but he leaves the clothes alone. Funny!
  8. Nobody I vote for seems to get in anyway... why not her?
  9. LOL Nothing and no one is supposed to interrupt cuddle time. When that happens at our house, Timber does this "muttering under his breath." Glad I can't understand what he's saying!
  10. What good news, and what a relief for you as well!
  11. Great pics, and glad to hear you are coming right along! Also glad to hear Dutch is safe.
  12. LOL! Too true birdhouse. Enjoyed reading that, thanks for sharing
  13. No help here because I'm a novice, but I can say that I have white fluff floating around Timber's area which is "normal." I'm sure someone more experienced will take a look at the pics and give you some advice.
  14. I was amazed when I first saw Timber manipulating objects to scratch his head. It is really amazing that Emma can do it with her lack of "nails!" If I were you, (insert disclaimer about liability and trying this at home) I'd try the scratching with your finger. She looks like she is ready to me, and if you watch her body language and reactions you can tell. I suspect Emma is going to be a cuddler.
  15. I don't have experience to give you advice, but I was wondering if it could be the "terrible twos?"
  16. My experience was like CLB's. I tried to get Timber (rehomed TAG) to step up immediately after I got him. The first couple of times, he did. After a few days, the honeymoon was over and he started biting me when I tried to get him to step op. Based on advice I read on this forum. I just started leaving his door open and not trying to get him to step up. When he started trusting me and I wanted to try again, I followed more advice I read here and remembered to never ask him to step up unless I was going to take him somewhere he wanted to go so it would be a positive experience for him. Now, we are doing well. He's bitten me a couple of times, but he had his reasons!
  17. LOL I'd have been thinking SPIDER! It really would be amazing if he was flying again, and it sounds like there is an excellent chance that he will!
  18. LOL Cool video! Thanks for sharing
  19. Hello and welcome! Looking forward to more pics and information about your life with Felix
  20. So sorry for your loss Emma! I have no words to say, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.
  21. Hello and welcome! Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures with Henni Penni
  22. Timber loves to be sprayed, which I do daily when it is warm enough, but he doesn't take a real "bath" that often (maybe once every two weeks). To get that accomplished, I have to be vigilant in watching him. When he wants to bathe, he will start dipping his beak in his water bowl and tossing water on himself. When I see him do that, I get an 8x8 glass baking dish I keep for his bathing. It's a heavy one and doesn't tip when he stands on the edge. I put about an inch of nursery water (purified but no chemicals) in the dish and put it in the bottom of his cage. He immediately goes for the dish and gets himself thoroughly wet. If he isn't wanting to bathe, that dish can sit there all day and he won't go near it. Not ideal, but that's as far as we've gotten and it seems to work for him.
