I thought Timber's beak was razorlike as well when I brought him home, probably because he was determined to sharpen it on my hand. When I took him to the vet for a check the next day I asked about the beak and why it was so sharp and got the "are you nuts?" look. She said it was normal. Ha.
No you are certainly not alone. I have to rein myself in all the time and remind myself that with work and everything else, I don't feel I have enough time for Timber sometimes. It's hard though!
Probably when I told my coworkers I couldn't go out with them after work because Timber needed his out-of-cage time. Ha. We've had this discussion on the forum before. The looks you get!
Interesting. After I typed that I thought it sounded a little naive. I've just never seen it in birds. Of course, I haven't spent a lot of time with one before either.
Well, this is a subject I didn't realize I would have to bring up. Timber hangs on his bell, which is suspended from his cage ceiling. He appears to be masturbating. Is that possible? I know I sound stupid and I imagine birds do this, but I'm ignorant, so please help me out! If that's the case, I assume I should just ignore the behavior? Thanks!
Good to hear that Gilbert weathered the earthquake so well, but hope he doesn't have to get "used" to it, ha. Here in southern Illinois we live near the New Madrid fault, and have an occasional rumble. Nothing since Timber has been with us though so I'm not sure how he would react.
The tile sounds like a great idea for Emmy. Don't you just love the cuddly times? As for Dutch, I assume you are touching his beak and feet through the bars when he comes over to you? That's what I did with Timber when I first got him and couldn't touch or handle him in any way. It shows them that you aren't going to hurt them and gets them used to your touch.
It sounds like Henni has it made now! She probably thinks she is in heaven. Thanks for the nail biting analogy Dave, that was good and I understand what you mean now. Like Sheldon89 I'm reading with interest because I'm trying to learn as well. Good job there Dizzy and loved the pics
I know what you mean about the potty mouth. Except for one time (I think he said "damn it") Timber doesn't say anything that would offend anyone. I don't appreciate bad language either, but it can be hard not to laugh when you hear it coming from a bird, and especially when it is used appropriately. I'll make a prediction that Gilbert will be flying by spring! I'm wondering how long it will take Timber's clip (the vet did it when I first got him) to grow out, and what I will do when it does. We'll see!
What a joy the way he is coming out of his shell! I sure wish Timber would talk more, but I've resigned myself to the fact that he may never be a big talker. Next it will be "get my robe and slippers Lulu" and "I need that cashew now Lulu, not next week!"
Glad to hear Congo's checkup went well! It is always a relief to hear they are OK. Read Jayd's post above carefully, good advice there. Also, be sure your Zupreem isn't on the recall list. Those recall's seem to be coming more and more often lately...
Gilbert is doing so well! I can understand your concerns about traveling, but you know the potential pitfalls ahead of time, and know he will rebound even if he does have a "sinking spell." I went out of town for a couple of nights a two weeks ago and left hubby in charge at home. When I got back, Timber seemed fine, but I got two bites in as many days the next week. One for each night I was gone I guess! After he vented his spleen, he's been fine. They are such a mix of fragility and strength. I have to be gone again this coming Tuesday and Wednesday night. This time I will know to be wary.
