  1. Yes, I think you answered your own question when you said he didn't like it.
  2. Hello and welcome Jane! Congratulations on your soon to be new addition. Good luck and God bless
  3. Amazing indeed Their language and cognition is really something else.
  4. That's great Kevin! I hate to admit it but after almost a year I still get downstairs in the morning and immediately go to "eyeball" Timber to make sure he's OK. I'm with you murfchck!
  5. Agreed, it is a personality thing. There are members here who have problems with their grey being a "one person bird." But, most of us find that our greys develop relationships with everyone in the household, to varying degrees.
  6. LOL Spend the winter in the burrow alternating between eating and sleeping?? I wanna be a chipmunk!
  7. Hello and welcome Gus and flock!
  8. Yes indeed. Last night I had to retrieve Timber from the floor. He WANTS to be on the floor, and often bites when I deposit him on the cage. I used a small piece of cheese, which I gave to him as soon as he stepped up. Now, you have to understand that Timber won't risk dropping a piece of cheese even in hurricane conditions, so I was able to deposit him on the cage without a bite. He made a hurumphing noise, but didn't bite me. Now, all I have to worry about is the fact that he will try even harder to get on the floor hoping for more cheese! Vicious circle, but you learn to "do what you have to do."
  9. LOL! Guess you need to start raising your hand and waiting to be recognized...
  10. Cute pics! They do love that corn on the cob...
  11. LOL That's what I thought, the name "cheeky" is apt! She's a beautiful bird
  12. Loved the pics! Thanks for sharing
  13. Poor baby! Please keep us posted.
  14. That's the worse thing about it in my opinion, no out of cage time! Hubby doesn't let Timber out because he can't handle him and is afraid he won't be able to get him back in. To date, my longest time away was 3 days so it hasn't been bad. In June I'm going on a mission trip for nine days which will be longer. I'll have to work with Gary and Timber to see if he can't manage some out of cage time for him.
  15. I live in an area that is fairly prone to tornadoes. When I was about eight, one went right through our place and did quite a bit of damage. The problem is, when you have tornado warnings as frequently as we do, you get a little blase' about it. I would hope we would hear if one of the size and scope as these recent ones in TX and OK were to be coming this direction. I really need to be more prepared and pay more attention!
  16. Hello and welcome! I'm sure noise levels do vary. Timber doesn't make a lot of unpleasant sounds or screams that would penetrate an apartment wall. He does whistle a lot. His speech is probably the same decibel level as a person's. No guarantees though! Good luck and God bless
  17. I've had to travel on business three times in the past year since I got Timber. Hubby has been home though, so it hasn't been a problem. I would probably take Timber to my son/daughter-in-laws house if I planned on being gone long and Gary was going with me.
  18. Some take them along, some leave them with a family member, some have a bird sitter come in. I'd say it depends on where you are going and what will work for you!
  19. How exciting to hear that chatter and know that you will eventually be able to understand all of it! Great progress, such fun!
  20. LOL beak of doom! Love it.
  21. I'm always surprised at myself when I am lulled into complacency. It's my own fault I know, but after a few months pass I get careless and not as attentive to Timber's body language. I had gone for a few months without a bite. When I pass Timber, I touch his beak which he seems to like. So, about a month ago, I passed, touched his beak and he turned. I touched his tail feather. He latched onto my index finger at the speed of light and gave me a "good" bite. After the fact, I couldn't believe I did that! Ha.
  22. I think you may have hit upon a money maker there!
  23. I'd love to see the results of that blood draw. I don't agree with a lot of the mainstream dietitians about saturated fat and its affect on humans. Greys aren't humans though and I am very curious about this.
  24. Wish I could believe they think they are honoring us when they drop their bombs on us but I just can't quite convince myself!
  25. Hello and welcome What an interesting flock you have! I'll bet there is never a dull moment at your house.
