  1. Thanks and a happy and blessed Independence Day to all my forum friends! Stay safe and enjoy your day
  2. That two-year-old behavior reminds me so much of toddlers. My kids would say "no" just as they reached for a forbidden item. I'm not sure I was always as patient with them as you are with Gracie!
  3. LOL! Now we know we are all doomed to getting the same frames and just having the lenses changed... Good to know for new parrot owners, choose wisely!
  4. Neat video! Now I don't feel so strange about some of the things I do to get Timber to try things etc.
  5. Yes, as the others said, touch takes time. Just spend time in the same room talking to him and whistling. Slow and easy wins the day on trust. As to the vegetables, you can make "chop" (search forum for threads), sneak it into things like birdie bread, hang it on a skewer (my TAG's favorite way), or find another way to sneak them into something he does like. Sometimes you just have to keep offering the veggies. One of these days he will give them a try. Some they like better cooked (sweet potato for my bird), and others they like raw. It depends on your bird. It is a lot of trial and error, which results in a lot of waste, but you'll figure it out eventually!
  6. I didn't know any of that Ray. Thanks for the post! Hubby is still eyeing Amazons...
  7. LOL Sounds like Elliott knows what he wants (or doesn't want). Sorry to hear you weren't happy with the cage. I'm always looking, but since Timber finally agreed to move into the large cage I had for him, I think we are good for now. Hope you get your parts etc. with no hassles and the transition is smooth!
  8. LOL I know what you mean. It has been over a year now and Timber keeps changing things up!
  9. What a beautiful baby! I've never had a baby so love seeing people's pics and stories about them. Thanks for sharing
  10. Timber can hold out longer than ten minutes, but I'm glad he decided to be forgiving after a relatively brief time this time! I hope the reduction in "mad" time is a sign of our growing relationship. Might just be the phase of the moon though
  11. My sister had a similar experiences with recluses in her house. For all the literature the tells you about them sticking to the dark, etc., her daughter was bitten twice in her room in broad daylight in the center of the room (once after their first extermination). Makes me wonder how much they really know about that spider, because my sister said they seemed almost aggressive and certainly spent enough time out and about in daylight that they saw them. I sure hope this extermination works for you!
  12. What a cool story! Thanks for sharing I can't use "step up" with Timber either. I can say "wanna go" and he'll step right up. Sometimes the small things make all the difference.
  13. Timber keeps the ball then tries to hit the cats or us with it when we go by...
  14. At least she will have some out-of-cone time! Sounds like a good report from the vet.
  15. No answers here, but I saw a pionus at a bird fair last year that wanted to go home with me so badly that I was tempted... I had only had Timber a few months and had a long way to go with him so I didn't get her. She was the sweetest, gentlest bird. On the other hand, I assume the can vary in temperament just as greys do.
  16. Well my kids weren't thrilled with every vacation we took either Gilbert will survive and thrive
  17. LOL Jan! You have a "proper" bird, and he expects you to be dressed appropriately for any interaction with him. They are so funny...
  18. There are several threads where the best lights for birds are discussed. I'm not sure that we came to any conclusions though as to which is best! I buy mine on amazon.com.
  19. What a beautiful picture! Thanks for sharing
  20. That's great! So glad you found someone. I'm no where near Detroit and have no experience handfeeding. Great to hear parronts "flock" together to help though!
  21. I don't think so Kevin, though someone who knows for sure will probably speak up. That's why I use a light (avian light). My windows have the filters in them and I can't see how any of the rays they need could possibly get through.
