  1. Must be a bunch before you can repeat. As I said, I've been giving it freely and still can't repeat. I should have been counting then we would know!
  2. Me too! I'm trying to make up for lost time since I've been here for almost a year and hadn't given anyone "reputation." I was wondering, how often can you give it? For instance, I gave Dan "rep" when he started this thread. Now when I do it it gives me the blurb about "you have to spread reputation around before adding to this users rep" (not an exact quote). How does this work? Still learning as well.
  3. The aloe juice at our Walmart is in the pharmacy area. You can probably get it from Amazon.com if you don't have a local vendor. I'm not sure of your location. Glad to hear you are getting Willor to the vet ASAP.
  4. Happy hatchday Biscotti! I'm thinking it is time for another Biscotti video... it's been awhile!
  5. I swear they know exactly what they are doing. When I'm trying to get Timber to say something I get the little gray statue routine. When I round the corner into the other room I hear him say something but can't make it out. I'm guessing it is "idiot."
  6. Hello and welcome Cassie and Willow! She is a beautiful baby Others with more experience will have advice for you on the plucking/mites, but if I were you I'd take her to an avian vet and have her checked out. Funny about her hello being a burp! Good luck and God bless
  7. Hello and welcome to you and Asal
  8. LOL! Love the "Ann ring the bell." I swear if Timber starts saying fetch when he throws that ball on the floor I'll never pick it up again... Famous last words! Dan, they may not be able to roll their eyes, but I swear they all have a long-suffering, "Lord, why did you give me such a dull-witted human" look!
  9. Sounds like Elliott is doing great! Good insight there from Talon. I know just how you feel about the jealousy, because I've felt that way myself! As you pointed out, two weeks is nothing, and certainly not enough time for you to know if he will be a cuddler or a hands off bird. It was closer to two months before Timber let me scratch his head right above his nose. Now it has been almost a year. Every night before bed, he perches on my arm, puts his head down on my stomach and lets me scratch and rub to my heart's content. Only time will tell!
  10. LOL! When you have the answer to that one we would all like to know. I don't have a lot of experience, but as far as I know they won't "learn on command or repetition" with words very well. I think their thinking is a lot more complicated than that. Sometimes Timber says words that I think he just "likes the sound of." Other times he picks up words said loudly and/or with emotion (like the words I don't want him to repeat and he only has to hear it once). He does seem to pick up comfort type language (like "good bird" "I love you" "it's OK Timber" "such a pretty bird") but he could be picking up on my emotion in those too. They also seem to learn the name of things they like and use them to request them. Timber says artichoke, peanut, etc. when he wants that particular thing. Maybe someone with more experience or who has done more research can give you a more definitive answer!
  11. Thane looks like such a sweetheart! I have no experience with babies so have no advice about the biting. Sure enjoyed the pics though, thanks for posting
  12. I'm doing my part too! Since Dan informed us about rep I've been spreading it about as often as possible to the people who have helped so much here.
  13. How exciting! Just like your human baby's first words
  14. Yes, I'd say he likes it. Timber reacts much the same, except for the kisses! He will open his mouth and close his eyes once in awhile. Makes me think he is dreaming of being out in the rain! Thanks for posting the video, I enjoyed watching it
  15. What a great pic, thanks for sharing!
  16. Jeff, here's the url https://www.facebook.com/pages/Everything-Birds/287772438570?fref=ts It is a pet store in Florida's page, and it appears that the owner of the shop has Felix and writes all of the cool poster stuff.
  17. Timber is like that too. If I am eating a banana he will take a small piece, but drops most of it. I was really surprised that he doesn't even care for grapes, which seem to be a favorite with many. I was relieved when I started reading here and other places and found that fruit isn't a necessity in their diets, and should only be given in small amounts. He was interested in the pomegranate, but I suspect that was only for "destructive play." I'm sure he got a few tastes, but most of it ended up on the floor (and bars) of the cage.
  18. I have no advice to give either, since that is a decision only you and Sean can make. How heart-rending for you though! I feel for you.
  19. Great pic! Looks like a ballet pose
  20. Truth there Jeff. My sister had a problem with brown recluses. She had the place sprayed 2 or 3 times and it didn't kill them off. Hopefully, they have better stuff now?
  21. Glad to hear all turned out well! They can surprise us sometimes can't they? Glad Alfie was so "forgiving"
  22. LOL Yes indeed! I'm past the "do a little fixing up" and on to the "need major remodel" myself
  23. I'm curious about this too. A couple of years ago, we had carpenter bees trying to destroy our front porch. To get rid of them, I signed a 3-month agreement with the pest control company. They sprayed inside and out (package deal). I have four cats, and the first time they were coming I called to ask what needed to be put away (i.e. cat's food, water, etc.) and how long the animals needed to be out. They said what they used was totally non-toxic to anything but insects and I didn't need to do anything. It worked very well and the cats certainly didn't seem affected. That said, it is very possible that birds are different since they are more sensitive. I've been thinking about calling and seeing if I can find out. My concern is that the people I talk to may not really "know" if you know what I mean. It was sure great to have a totally bug free house for 3 months! No spiders, no gnats, no anything that didn't belong.
