  1. congrads on your new grey we have a rescued grey named Smokey he will be 3 years old Friday , it took a little time for him to trust us , he pretty much stayed in his cage for 3 or 4 days then ventured out , now he will step right up and loves scritches plus he loves lots of attention , we have had him for about 2 or 3 months, he still isn't that good at eating pellets but he loves the Goldenfeast mix he gets and he eats veggies pretty good I have been trying to get him on Harrisons but so far he isn't to interested in them but everyday I put some in his food bowl hoping some day he will actually eat them , my major problem with him right now is he plucks his feathers but he wearing a sock buddy so that helps , he may have to wear it for a very long time , we shall see and he gets aloe baths 3 times a week
  2. looks like a nice cage ,I need that size for Rocky or Shamrock 36 inches looks mighty small compaired to that one
  3. he gets 3 fresh showers a week and 2 aloe baths a week , I let him stay dry on saturday and sunday to give him a break , I would love to take him out side but it's to cold for that plus there is no way I could get him into a harness or flight suit right now , it takes all of my energy just to get the sock buddy on him lol , omg seems like it takers forever and he hates anything going over his head so I always end up with a few bite wounds but I will take then bites if that's what it takes for him to quit plucking
  4. Judy that's my plan for Smokey , I have to change the one he has on tomorrow it's getting pretty shabby , I ordered some socks but they won't be here until thyursday so until then I picked up the best I could find at walmarts just enough to do him until Thursday when the good socks come
  5. he eats and plays with his toys as usual but he doesn't want anyone to touch his chest , I keep trying to pull it up more around his neck and he doesn't like that either , it's going to be a long journey here
  6. ok heres a few pics of Smokey in his sock buddy , this is day2 and at least it isn't completely shredded not yet anyways I have a few improvemnets I want to make on the next one , like the neck higher and the front a little longer other then that it's perfect
  7. here we go again , I have tried so many things to get Smokey to stop plucking I was about to give up but I heard about the sock buddy and have actual proof it does work so we started this yesterday only thing really bad about it is the cost of the socks they are not cheap , the material has to be micro fiber or chenille which is almost imposible to find but I found some online , I ordered the kit with instructions on how to make them and she sent me 2 socks to get started , he has already chewed up his first sock and now we are on the second one , it takes awhile to get use to them but at $7.00 a pair I sure he does soon , I ordered 10 pairs for him last night at least it is better then putting a collar on him , I hate the though of having to do that , the down side is the cost of the socks and the fact that he can still pluck his wings and legs but at least he cannot pluck his chest here is the site if anyone is interested or needs this information http://www.thesockbuddy.com/
  8. I'am gonna miss that baby stage when he grows up , he is super cuddly right now and he follows me around every where
  9. sorry he isn't a grey , but he is still a baby heres his latest pic
  10. I put it in their veggies about 1 to 1 and a half Tablespoon
  11. ty Carol I have your site saved in my favs
  12. Hi Carol I lost the link to your site can you give me your site addy please and ty for the tip on the spray for Smokey , I want to try this other stuff out first and if it does not work then I will try what you recommended ty Deby

  13. I have a grey named Smokey that is almost 3 years old , me and hubby are his 3rd home and boy did he swear big time when we first got him but he has slowed down on the swearing now I still hear a F--er every now and them but not near as much as I use to , I have been teaching him new words to say and playing nursery ryme songs for him to listen to ,don't worry it will pass in time , when he says bad words don't react , act like you have not even heard what he said
  14. I could deal with 2 more greys especially at that age , I think lol I would consider one honestly but I would have to have some serious thoughts about 2 , good luck in your decission
  15. I'am handfeeding a Eclectus if that helps you any he will 4 months old the 13th of this month and he just now got off of 3 handfeedings I have a feeling I will handfeeding him along time yet he truly loves his formula and every time he hears the microwave go off he thinks it's his formula and boy does he scream
  16. I mix 2 Tablespoons of Gel with really warm water and mix it up real good , I have a little left but dummy me just ordered another bottle , I think I will leave that one alone for now and try this other product , the lady that runs chopper toys swears by this product and it does not leave any kind of residue on the bird , also humans can use this for small cuts or burns
  17. for anyone looking for aloe vera juice it's on sale at walmarts right now for $7.00 I think I'am going to pick some up tomorrow before I leave work , I have been using Aloe Vera Gel which was recommended by the refeathing kit I bought for Smokey , he did have some really red and sore looking spots on him from plucking but he looks ok now so I'am going to keep the gel for emergencies or incase I need to use it again and start using the juice once or twice a week on him
  18. A friend told me to try it on Smokey , Smokey went to vet today to get his nails done and my vet said I should slow down on the aloe gel baths , he mentioned giving 2 plain showers a week and 1 aloe bath per week , he thinks aloe in any form put s a resadue on the bird and sometimes that keeps the birds plucking , depending on the bird and he definitely disagree's with bird wearing collars unless it's an extreme case , I just ordered another bottle of aloe gel looks like this bottle will last a long time , I might give this Earths Balance a try but not until I run out of aloe gel , maybeeeeeeeeeeee not sure , I have already tried about 5 different products with no success so whats next I have no idea , I just keep trying or maybe I will pic up some aloe juice from walmarts and keep the gel for emergencies , they have it on sale now for about 7 dollars I'am going to order a clicker trainer set and a few interactive toys for me and the birds to work on , I figure I can keep them all busy especially Smokey
  19. maybe some daySmokey will get brave and try it but not now
