Wingy, what pellets do you use? Thank you everyone.
-
Can you freeze the pellets too. Since I will only have one bird, I've been worrying about buying too much pellets and them going to waste, so if I can freeze them so there is no waste that would be great...especially as it seems I will have to order the pellets.

Perfect! Thanks Amali!
-
LOL, we don't do that here! Most branches that are trimmed are put into a brush pile or burnt.
-
Amali...I haven't seen a mesquite anywhere on our property! Maybe I'll just go up to Thorndale! Nice to see someone so close. Lots of cedar, oak, pines. I'll make my hubby go look through the thick stuff! LOL I'll make sure I get branches from the middle/top. No pesticides here or fertilizer here. If we did fertilize our hay field would be full of hay instead of weeds! LOL Sigh, so much work, not enough knowledge or machinery! LOL

I had thought of that, but since we are traveling 3 hours just to pick him up, it just won't be feasible. And we are picking him up on Sunday so that would be a no go. I will try to make an appointment next week and get him in as soon as possible.
-
Thanks Judygram. I know it could happen when we get him home too. I'm trying to be optimistic! LOL I will make him an appointment soon for a general check up. I am not sure if I should let him get to know me first or what really. Like I said, I'm starting to get nervous now. I guess we'll have to see how things go. I have homework and I just can't get my brain to concentrate on it! Due date is tomorrow and Monday! Argh.

Here are some pics of him. They are from his ad, but I will add more pics when we get him home! She did say he is plucking a little, but she thinks it's because he is not home right now and in his main cage. He is in a smaller cage that he doesn't like so much. So hopefully when we get him home and get him into his own cage he will be fine.

I just got off the phone with her. We are meeting on Sunday! I can not wait! I'm so excited. I probably won't be able to sleep all weekend. I mean, I've already been having Grey dreams! LOL I really like his owner. I mean we were on the phone for over an hour..maybe two. I could just tell how much she loves him. The only reason she is rehoming is her daughter is allergic. She told me that she's had many people interested but none of them felt right to her until me. I feel very honored to be entrusted with him. She is including his two cages, toys, food, and dishes. So he will have familiar things with him. I sure hope that it will help him adjust quicker. Now I'm starting to get nervous. I'll have to have a family meeting with the kids about doors and fans and dogs and everything! He is not clipped. So now my mind is buzzing about how to Grey proof our house. I have 2 days to do it. All advice is welcome! He's never been sick. He's used to visiting other people's houses. He's actually at her sister's house right now. She is bringing him back home tomorrow or Saturday. He is actually about 12 years old. She's had him 7 and got him when he was about 5. She says he loves to eat. Though he prefers people food to pellets and he won't eat them. Oh geez we have big picture windows...I need to put something on them. And a UV light. Sun doesn't really shine into our house except my bedroom and bathroom. The cage is huge! Already have a place for it. What else?? Help! My mind is in overload! I'm so excited! Yay!

We have a pecan tree growing in the front yard...it didn't die thank goodness in the drought. My hubby planted it in memorandum for his dad. So when it matures I can get some branches from that one.
-
Thank you Jayd!
-
Thanks everyone! I'll definitely keep y'all informed! I haven't heard from her yet. Hoping tomorrow. Although it is still pretty early I guess. Trying not to get too impatient.
-
Awesome! Great questions! She is supposed to call this evening or tomorrow. I'm very excited. Even my hubby is on board! We were both thinking it would be a while, but I couldn't pass this up. She is including both the cages. And the best part? I think this is meant to be.... I had a Schnauzer, who sadly died a few years ago. Their names are the same! And my schnauzer was silver! I mean, what's the probability? hehe

I am in the process of talking with someone who needs to rehome her 7 yr old grey. She's got a new baby and the baby is allergic. We are in the talking process right now. I hope that I can meet them soon. Wish us luck! What other questions do I need to ask? I'm sure I've forgotten something in the excitement. Thanks!
-
Better go searching for a nest! LOL Or they won't be going anywhere. Hopefully they are just passing through. I love seeing the ducks and egrets on our tank. Since I've moved out into the country I've seen so many wild animals! We've even had geese visit our tank. Beautiful!

I sure hope you can find another vet and get more answers! I used to live in Jordan when I was 4 & 5. My stepdad used to work for Raytheon. LOL
-
If you aren't satisfied with what your vet has told you, have you thought about going for a second opinion? I hope you find out what is going on with KooKoo.
-
No worries on the pines....they are dead and dry. I just hope not brittle. I'll go out and get a few branches to make absolutely sure. We don't have any other trees. We have red cedar, but that is dangerous. Grr. I've asked my hubby if we have any hibiscus, magnolia or sycamore around here, but of course we don't. Sigh
-
How horrible! People like this guy should be shot. Prayers you get Archie back very soon!
-
Thank you Doug. I was getting a lot of contradicting information too and was hoping that it would be cleared up here. I would really like to put these poor dead trees to use. My poor hubby planted over 100 pines, and all but 10 or so died...from drought, from rubbing antlers, from dog pee, you name it. LOL
-
Which trees can I use for perches? Let's see I have pine trees, pear, peach, plum, apple, oak, and willow available in my backyard. During our drought we lost quite a few pine trees, oaks and our peach. plum and apple tree. I was thinking that I could use these to make perches and maybe a playstand or two, but need to know if these are safe. Thanks!

I got this from The African Grey Parrot Handbook, by Mattie Sue Athan and Dianalee Deter. Very informative on why grey's do what they do and so much more.
-
Exactly! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! I've been listening to my kids and wondering what a very smart grey would pick up. Any visitors will be appalled! LOL One of my son's does this honking snort thing, my daughter always says "I'm bored", my youngest always says "I don't like that". Oh my! I'm in for a treat! LOL
