That's too funny! My kids are 16, 14, 10, and 8. Buddy is learning all sorts of things! He'll be sprouting pokemon stuff if my 10 year old has anything to say about it, and cussing, yup. She's adorable. I love Buddy, and he's starting to come out of his shell and has started playing with his toys and stuff, and he does let me pet his beak and feet through the cage and does step up for me. But you can see a total change in him when my hubby comes home from work. If Buddy comes out of his cage he will literally fly to wherever my hubby is at. Freaks the hubby out for sure! LOL It's a hoot. I just want him to do that for me! LOL You have a sweet little girl there. Lot's of pics please!

That's awesome. My hubby is my Buddy's fav human. He's nice to me only because I feed him and talk to him, and do all the things a good mommy does, but he prefers the hubby. LOL I keep trying to talk my hubby into a baby too, but it's a no go for now. One breeder in TX finally has baby CAGs, and I can't have one. Oh well, that one would probably prefer my hubby too. LOL Anyhoo, I think its just awesome that you can take him out, regardless that it's in the backyard, just the fact that you can do it and have that kind of bonding with her.

That is just too cool Aerial. I would love to be able to do that with Buddy. We might just have to settle for an outdoor aviary for him though. Have lots of fun! Can't wait for more pics your outings together.

No ice cube trays. Ice machine here, so I have to make do! LOL

I made something similar this weekend for Buddy! It should last a very very long time. I got the 15 bean soup, wild rice, garbonzo beans, frozen veggies and fresh veggies (red, yellow, green peppers, squash, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, carrots, potato, corn (very small amount) and pellets. Still trying to get those pellets into Buddy any way possible. He hasn't had it yet, since I also made Lentil Sausage soup and split pea soup! LOL Tonight he'll get the mash, plus split pea soup. The lentil soup didn't go over too well with him, but I think I didn't hide the pellets so well. I figured out a very fast easy way to package the mash in serving sizes. Use those sandwich bags that you fold and tuck instead of ziplocks, put your hand inside, grab however much is a serving size and pull it inside out. Twist and put it in a big ziplok bag. I think we fit more than ten of the little baggies in the big ziplock, and it made packing it quick.

Very nice! I don't need the husband, just send me the plans and what you used! LOL I'll have my hubby do the work.

No Type "A" personalities here! You can always hear my kids doing a farting medley. Sigh. Hubby brought home split peas and lentils. Am cooking them now. Think I will make some split pea soup and lentil soup as my hubby loves both and set aside some servings for Buddy. He's being neurotic today. I mean he's hating on me today. Probably because I'm feeding him good food, and he only got a few seeds. Figures, he got all happy when my hubby got home. Sigh.

Well, I'm from El Paso...could be why. LOL He's from Austin, and definitely NOT from a redneck family! LOL
-
I had never heard it before I met my husband. They are a family that is very open about their toots. It can be a little scary at Thanksgiving. LOL I will definitely try the ham...my family will enjoy it too! Thanks!

Okay, no canned peas...I love canned peas over fresh! LOL Probably cause of the sodium and preservatives. Beans beans the magical fruit. The more you eat the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel, so eat some beans at every meal. My hubby and kids love beans...but they get it out of a can. Wonder how they'll like the beans in a bag. I'm definitely putting way too much in his bowl. I need to buy some ice cube trays! We don't have any cause we have an ice machine. LOL I have to go to Whole Foods in Austin for groceries. Our Wally world has awful veggies and fruits and not a great selection at that. Day trip! Thanks!

I've looked and may have overlooked it, but what is the serving size of fresh food for a CAG? A lot of food is wasted as I'm either giving too much, or he just doesn't like what I'm giving him. I'm baking some cornbread now. Hoping I can get some pellets into him. Gotta go grocery shopping for more veggies and fruits and beans...I don't eat beans, I don't even know how to cook them...anyone want to share the knowledge of beans? Gonna try to soak pellets in apple juice and/or orange juice. How bad are canned peas? Buddy likes those.

Thanks. Buddy loves the camera. He actually came up really close and I got a few of his open beak...too bad the camera wouldn't focus and there was condensation all over the lense. LOL Silly boy. -
LOL, I haven't heard him ACHOO, but when you do he asks if you are all right. But I will definitely keep that in mind.

Buddy let me scritch him! Woot! Then, he was playing all nice...and tried to bite. Sneaky little devil. Also, he goes to bed the same time the kids do 8:30, so my hubby is in our room and yell's out go to bed! Well our kids are in bed...Buddy was talking and it sounded like our kids. LOL Funny! So at any rate, I have more pics...tonight was spaghetti night and of course he got some...loved it. I tried broccoli's again...no go, they went to the bottom of the cage. Sigh. I did mix in some pellets to his meal, hopefully he actually ate some. After dinner, he came out and joined us...we let him on the table and he started chewing up the straws I had out. First time I've seen him do anything like that. We hid some pine nuts in the straws and he got them out. Weeeee! I love this bird! -

All those fluffy pics are after shower. He loved it! Makes me happy! LOL I saw some pin feathers on his chest and belly. Hoping the aloe helps ease the way! -

He was a brave boy today, and decided to take a look around. He joined me in my office and got a good soaking with aloe juice..

Today he has been active and then napping. He's eating an egg right now. I gave him a salad, but he threw it to the bottom of the cage. Time go peruse the food threads! LOL Thank you for the welcome Nancy.

I wouldn't care if he was bald to tell the truth! I'd love him anyway. I'm just glad he's doing well right now. He enjoyed it and drank out of the spray bottle. Though, it doesn't seem as if he's drank any of his water. How much do they drink?

Thanks everyone! We are all doing well today. Buddy had some banana, carrots, yams and snap peas. He doesn't like broccoli. He also ate some granola. I tried not to give him any of his junk food today, but I did give him a bowl of his seed mix and added the pellets...he's going around the pellets. I am going to try soaking them in apple juice I think and also mix it into his yams...I'll just mush them up. But he will eat from my hand and let me pet his beak today. I think he wanted scritches, but I wasn't really sure and didn't want a nip again. We are leaving him in his cage today and maybe tomorrow. I have to bird proof my office before letting him in here since my office has the door to outside that I let Shylo out and in...I'm thinking one of those magnetic screens as seen on tv...don't know yet. I do know that I haven't done my homework that I have due today as I can't leave Buddy alone! LOL He was dancing with me to "Do a Little Dance"...hehe he stomps his feet. He does have two bare spots on his belly that he plucked...have not seen any plucking since getting him home. I have sprayed him...he loves it. Thinking I need to do the aloe..his skin looks really dry. He has downy feathers all on his belly. They said that he's still growing in from his molt? I don't know, but will take him to the vet for a check up. Well, without further ado....Heeerrrreeee'sssss Buddddddy!!! In the last three you can see his feathers maybe? I have more pics on my phone, but can't transfer them here for some reason...I'll try again though.

So Buddy is home. We had to drive all the way to San Antonio, but it was well worth the three hour drive there. His parronts socialized him very well. He was talking and making his noises in no time. He stepped up for the both of us, but he was absolutely fascinated by my hubby. Just loved him, but then all animals do! I got a nip. Touched his toe while he was perched on my hand. I didn't yelp or make a big fuss...didn't really hurt at all. My fault. It was so sad, his parronts cried when we were leaving, they love Buddy very much. We've promised to keep them updated with pics and everything. They've even asked that if it ever becomes too much and we cannot handle or keep Buddy for any reason that we let them know so they can take him back. I don't think that will ever happen, but we never know what is going to come. But I'm glad for it. The drive home was interesting. He drank water out of a straw for me. When we stopped for potty breaks I used the water cap, but he took that away, then he took away the straw. I was pretty much holding the water bottle for him to drink, but drink he did. He talked and made noises all the way home. My kids were so excited to see him. My daughter especially...she wouldn't leave his cage. We got his "mansion" set up. Seriously big cage...had to take it apart to transport it and the smaller cage home. But got it set up, and then Buddy refused to step up from his travel cage. I hate to say it, but I bribed him with a potato chip. He is on the worst diet. No pellets. I did buy some Roudybush on the way home, and will get started on that. But he is in his mansion...I set it up almost exactly like at his old home. I did add some more toys for him. But he's got his ice water and some pellets and some seeds. He was on a mostly seed diet supplemented with fresh fruits and veggies and pasta and other stuff. We are so happy to have him here. I'm just so in love with him....too bad he's in love with the hubby! LOL But maybe he will love us both since I'm the one feeding him. LOL;) I will post some pics tomorrow. We are going to bed...it's been a long day! Night!

Distraction with a foot toy? If you see him going for a taste, quickly put up a foot toy for him to taste instead. I do that for my pups.
