If you have a "seed" guard around the sides of the cage you shouldn't have to worry much about the floor except say in the door area. I have a perch on my cage door to make it easier for him to come in and out. He will either perch on that or on top of the door itself. I have to keep newspapers on the floor in that area only. The rest of what he causes is sweepable with a broom . (shredded bits of paper, bits of dry food)

That made me so sad..and not a little angry

Thank you all, she has been looking all over and has had 250 flyers printed up to post around. I know I feel just sick for her, thinking about if it were Jasper or one of my cats lost. If anyone lives near that area and could spread the word..she never mentioned if he was microchipped or not or if she has a band # I don't even know her but I would love to see her baby boy get back home to her. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I'll have to take a closer look at the couple of stores near me, I didn't think nuts are something carried year-round but then it's not one of those things I really buy except at holiday time. Thanks for the tip, I will look for them in produce next time I go shopping.

Fine would have been my first choice but everyone on the parrot forum was saying coarse for greys. I had contacted Harrison's and they are supposed to be sending me sample of both I think. I didn't think about nuts, I'm sure he'd love them, he's had almonds and liked them alot. Would the bags of nut bits and such that you can use in baking be ok? Those are about the only nuts I think I could find readily available, aside from the obvious taboo salted snack nuts. Darnit I just got back from the store, too. I just gave him lunch, gave him all Harrison's, no Roudybush to see what he eats. I bought a sweet potato to cook up and some corn bread mix.

Jasper has been home about a month now, two weeks ago he had his wellness visit and was said to look healthy. He had a fecal smear and exam, the vet didn't feel he needed to do any bloodwork. When he first got home he had no trouble with eating. He gets a mix of bean cuisine with frozen mixed veggies in the morning which he dives into eagerly. After a couple hours I take whatever is left away and give him his pellet mix. This consists of Roudybush Maint., a bit of Just Veggies (dried veggies) and a crumbled Avicake. As time goes on I am feeling his breastbone a bit more and he's leaving alot of pellets. Now I see he is diving right for the avicake bits and will eat some of the dried veggies. I just picked up some Harrison's HP coarse and add a bit of that in as well. He will pick those up right away and bites them into little pieces, the bits go all over so I'm not real sure how much of this is going into him. He loves his Nutriberries and he gets one or two of those a day. I purchased a Sterling scale from My Safe Bird Store (great site, can't say enough good about it) and got it last week. His weight has gone up and down a bit in the week I've weighed him. I always weigh him first thing in the morning and he is getting trained to "go" on command and know when it's appropriate for him to do so. He is voided when he gets on the scale every morning. It is possible that he could have gotten up ahead of me and snacked on pellet mix, I leave that in until the next morning when I go to feed breakfast. The Roudybush I got at the same place I got him, they never said it had to be refrigerated or anything like the Harrison's. Is it possible it's gotten stale or something and that's why he chooses not to eat it? He takes to the "goody" stuff quite well. I'm going to have to learn to cook healthy stuff for him it seems, I don't eat alot of good stuff but it's slowly changing. I gave him a portion of plain baked potato the other night when it was cooled off and he ate that up (I know sweet potato is better for him). I see there is a Food section as well, wasn't sure which to put this in, sorry if it's the wrong room.

Hi, I'm posting this here with the permission of a fellow Parrot Forum member. Her Grey got loose by a stroke of misfortune yesterday evening (April 11). They watched him go into a tree but couldn't coax him down and he was scared off by a couple other birds. He is flighted. Maui was lost in Bradenton, FL. East of new 301 but west of 1-75, south of SR 64, but north of SR 70. Maui flew away from 30th AVE EAST and 25th ST EAST. If anybody thinks they've spotted Maui, Please let me know asap!!! There is a NICE CASH REWARD for Maui's safe return home. Here are some phone number's that I can be reached at............ 941-201-7387 OR 941-201-5693 OR 941-757-7416

Sorry to raise this after a year. Is Shelley still around? Was there any resolution? Reading this made me sick and angry. Imagine someone invading my property and murdering one of my beloved babies? I would be beside myself. If you never got any resolution fighting the cops, maybe you could bring this up again somehow and sue (in this now sue happy world of ours) for wrongful death or something against the damn criminal punk kid who started the whole mess?? Especially if your son suffered because of somehow witnessing or being around the event? I hope something good somewhere came of it. It makes me sick and sad and angry. And this is why I value animal lives above those of most people. Animals should not be used to test products, reduce overcrowding and send criminals to serve out their sentences in labs as test subjects. Without compensation, their compensation is repaying society for their crimes.

I haven't exactly quit yet but might as well..lol..since I brought Jasper home over a week ago I started smoking outside and that has turned out to be no more than 3 a day. It was nothing for me to sit in front of the computer and smoke nearly 2 packs a day when I was home. Yeesh. Right now I'm barely into the last of the 5 cartons I got cheep! down in San Juan in Jan when I was down there. Once those are gone..yeah I hope to quit entirely. The mess and the *stink* are bad, the money spent on them is bad..what they do to one's health and one's cats' health..they need to go. Much better things to spend my little money on now.

All things considered I think I've been pretty lucky so far with Jasper. I decided to get an aviator harness and it came about a week or two before he came home. Another gentleman who bought one of the babies had been visiting with one that the lady at the shop kept putting on for him to get him used to it. When mine came I mentioned it and was told there that I should have been bringing one in to get him used to it. He came home a week ago and from about day 3 I started working with him. It didn't take long for him to let me get it on but it was a bit of a struggle. I didn't have anything to practice on so I was fumbling a bit and whenever I brought a finger near his chest he thought he was to step up even though I never asked. He did manage to step on the harness and pushed with his feet making it go tight across his back. It was madness and confusion and I could a couple good bites from the deal. Like riding a bike, right? Next day we go again..and the next..now he's standing still and being very good with the putting it on and taking off. Oh he tries to help and grabs and pulls the strap and fusses and growls the whole time. I think too it's my convidence that when he tries to lift a foot I tell him "no" in a sure voice so he knows that's not what I expect. It's been nice here for over a week and I've been trying to take him out at least once a day if not twice. He still needs distraction or else he will try to pull on or chew the harness but it's just a matter of time I think. He just needs to get used to the feel of it on his body. I agree it's not that easy for them as someone posted it feels odd and pulls the feathers out of place. Tonight I went out and sat on my steps with him on one hand and my 4 year old cat's leash in the other hand. I brought one of his playing cards to chew on to distract him and that lasted as long as it did.

Jasper is clipped, actually, due to the store set-up. (Jo's Exotics in Kenosha WI) It would be too easy for the babies to fly out into a busy street from the visit area should someone have the front door open. I am planning on letting his flights grow out from now on though. I have an aviator harness I have been working on with him. He is good about sitting still now and letting me put it on but he doesnt like the feel of it yet. I took him with when I went shopping yesterday morning. He had to stay in the van of course but I'm trying to get him used to going places and seeing new people and things. I would like a comfortable and confident adult that won't shy at new things and new people. I hope this is the right path. Thank you all for the welcome. I guess I'm going to have to go back again and read that thread on posting pictures as I don't use photobucket. -
You need to keep the $300 and use it for new toys and amusements for the baby CAG!

Hello everyone, it's a pleasure to meet you all. I've been over on Parrot Forums for a month or so now, I think someone might have even suggested this one but here I am. I'm a middle-aged lover of animals who shares a home with 3 rescued cats, a five-year-old (or is it six? hmm) green-cheek conure and now a three and a half month old Grey. He is dna sexed and got to come home on Tuesday. He is settling in finally and finding his food and water. He's even working on those muscles climbing around his cage inside and out. I look forward to browsing the forums, getting to meet and talk to and learn from you all.
