  1. I wonder what Jasper would do with that. I just have the plain foraging ball without the chain. I mostly just stuff it with paper and one time I put some of his toy part big plastic beads in it. I got my order *today*, I was so shocked. I'm even closer to her here than I was in Wisconsin so everything is like 1 day shorter on delivery but no mail yesterday I was expecting it tomorrow or Thurs. Jasper isn't sure what to make of his new toys yet but he'll come around. There are a couple that I hope will present a bigger challenge for him, he figures these darn things out so fast.
  2. Yep yep, that's just like Jasper. Jasper was doing the whole "ooh ohh ohh ahh ahh" for a short while but seems to have lost interest in it since the chicken. I'll have to see if I can get him recorded doing it. It's really cute when he sometimes says it like "cheek-in". Gracie's really sweet, what other silly things does she say?
  3. Yep yep. I love that site and I was thrilled to see the sale. I finally got a job after a year of being without one so this will be the first time Jasper will be left home without me for an extended period. I wanted to get a couple more foraging toys anyhow but she's been out of them. Now she has them in and on sale to boot, too good to pass up. My order was close to $150 but after promos, discounts and reward points it's just over $100, which means free shipping. Now that is a good deal.
  4. That's pretty funny. I've been noticing this about Jasper too. Suddenly he'll just blurt something out that I wasn't even trying to teach him. And just like Jeff said..Jasper was doing "ohh ohh ohh" sort of sound so I encouraged it, tried to improve it and teach him "monkey". That didn't go anywhere (for now, he's probably filed it away for later) but he was doing something similar to a chicken. Once again I taught him an improved version and right now that's *all* he does. And oh yes, they *understand* words, no one can tell me they don't. My friend and I were talking about something just in the hallway outside my room and for whatever I reason I said "chicken" and he immediately starting making chicken noises lol Something else he has suddenly started in the last couple days is "the birdie drinks the water *gulpgulpgulp*" usually when it's feed and fresh watering time.
  5. I was also advised this by the manager of the bird store where I bought Jasper. I suppose because whistling is much easier for them perhaps?
  6. Hah! If I tried that with Jasper I wouldn't have a monitor left!
  7. "Speaking of pits, in 1989 it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that avocados are toxic to birds and they can die within a couple of days after just one drop from avocado paste diluted in water." :(:( It's awful what humans do to creatures in the name of science. Great article! That should be a mandatory read for anyone before they bring a bird into their lives and home.
  8. It certainly is normal and I said the same thing when Jasper starting dropping all his. It was messy but the worst thing to me was they always managed to find my coffee or open drink.
  9. I'm sorry for you all but glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. Jasper used to whistle shrilly right by me to get my attention when I had something and he was in his cage. He has to be in his cage while I'm eating or he will be all over me. I digress... So we broke the eardrum busting habit but he still begs no matter what I have. Even if it's something he doesn't like and tosses to the floor he will still continue to beg. And since we have broken the shrieking whistle beg he now makes this odd low moaning "mmm" noise that ends in a small kinda squeak. Still annoying but way better than the shriek. And those eyes, staring, boring right into your soul...
  10. Exactly as Dave said. When I got Jasper I wasn't working and home all the time so I could pretty much let him stay out all the time. I was advised by the manager where I got him to not do that because when the time came for me to work he's not going to know how to act being penned up alot suddenly. Sometimes though they will put themselves away, I've seen this myself. Maybe Jasper had such freedom that it didn't bother him one way or another but there are times when the cage door is open and he's in his cage happily playing with a toy. Definately time out of the cage is good but they need to understand there are times for being in the cage and it's not a punishment.
  11. Babies goes through a molt roughly around 8 months I think where they lose all these down fluffs. This preceeds their first actual feather molt. These fluffballs will show up here and there and in time you will swear it's snowing in your house. Some of them get pretty darn big and they *will* find their way into any open cup, mug or glass filled with liquid, especially coffee. Especially...coffee...

So cute! Welcome and enjoy your stay here.
  13. Jasper didn't say his first clear thing until about 6 or 7 months old I think while another baby at the store of the same age was saying words before she even went home. From what I have heard of you probably have one of those exceptionally young starters and I agree that all those people talking to him all the time has to help out. If you can get a video we'd love to see it, babies especially are so darn cute. You sound like you have your hands full there at home but if you have time I would recommend starting a journal for him. While it will take him a few years to really become an adult these changes he will undergo in the next year or so will seem to happen so swiftly. I started one before I brought Jasper home and recorded things like what he likes to eat or no on a given day, when he started actually saying a word clearly, when I noticed his eyes changing colour, when it started snowing in my house (you will love that one)...
  14. Aww I wish Jasper had been that young when I got him. The picture on their website they had he was still pretty young but getting pretty feathered, I think he was..8 weeks? old when I actually bought him and started visiting.
  15. I recently got one of those for Jasper. The same button keeps going off because all he does is try to figure out a way to get the mirror stuff off of it lol
  16. I just saw this! WTG and good job! You are an asset to the forums!
  17. Very beautiful! You must have a nice camera.
  18. =D Hopefully someone will be along with some advice. I try not to worry on it but I am so afraid of Jasper doing this. After you sent me that first picture of her that time..his chest feathers look a little tattered. He is molting but oy..you might have to buy her a dress so she can't pluck
  19. Good to see you back here again You might want to give a little household history too other than the move..the different changes that have been happening in your life, additions to the family, how much interaction she gets and with whom. That might help out the people who had dealt with this before. If the vet has ruled out anything health wise that might just leave boredom or stress. Some of our more experienced grey guardians are sure to have some idea what's going on with her. Poor baby.
  20. Ok Dan..I'm sitting here trying to visualize this..all I can come up with is...you're going to be a baked potato! ::mmm...puts in a store of chives, bacon bits, butter and sour cream!:::
  21. Poor Luna! Jasper was never banded, the bird store was against it for those reasons. The manager even convinced me to take Tico somewhere to have his removed, which I did. I have the band still but don't have to worry about him being hurt because of it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for her!
  22. I really need a newer car myself. But first I really need a *job*. =(
  23. Jasper is a little shy but he will sometimes step up for my friend (whom I am living with atm). He won't let her scritch though but I showed her how to "ask" him to see if he's willing. I'm glad he's not (yet) ready to rip everyone but me's fingers off.
